Penguincw: Assuming Bauer didn't compete in the championship last year (which I don't think even was one), this is Bauer's first French Championship since the loss of his 4 month old son. Must be a hard time for him still, but at least he's won 1 game for his son: R Edouard vs C Bauer, 2014.

perfidious: Good to see Dorfman actually playing, as opposed to turning out one dreary effort after another in twenty moves or fewer.
Aug-22-14  posoo: LOL porfoodus, I can ONLY IMAGINE da extent to which Dorfman would ROAL u like a STEEMroller!

Dats even IF you had your precious rubka along to sniff and snort da entire time!

Penguincw: Just found the official site: http://nimes2014.ffechecs.org/.
Aug-22-14  LucB: <HMM> <première!>

'didn't know you you were a woman <HMM>!

;-)

Aug-22-14  madlydeeply: Ha you funny posoo
Aug-22-14  LucB: Does anybody know why MVL isn't playing?
Aug-22-14  Blunderdome: <LucB> He'll be at the Sinquefeld Cup shortly.
Aug-23-14  Sokrates: Great win by Fressinet over Dorfman. F. is currently no. 41 on the live ratings list and the only appearing within 46.
Aug-23-14  LucB: Oh right I forgot about that.. thanks <Blunderdome>!

HeMateMe: Huh? isn't "premiere" first, in French? I suppose it's a female noun. What would a guy say? Scream "DE GAULLE!"?
Aug-24-14  arnaud1959: <HMM> premier :)
Aug-24-14  Everett: <Aug-22-14 posoo: LOL porfoodus, I can ONLY IMAGINE da extent to which Dorfman would ROAL u like a STEEMroller! Dats even IF you had your precious rubka along to sniff and snort da entire time!>

I imagine you didn't take a look at Dorfman's games from last year. Even the best can play insipidly.

Aug-24-14  LucB: <HMM> "Premier" (sort of rhymes with 'stay') is masculine while "Première" is feminine.

Le premier, la première... (noun)

Or as an adjective:
Le premier homme (= Adam)
La première femme (=Eve)

... assuming you believe the story of course! ;o)

Aug-24-14  LucB: One can also say: "la première d'un film" to refer to a movie's first showing/screening.

ketchuplover: Kudos to Roger Ferry on his 55th straight appearance in this event!
Aug-24-14  The Last Straw: Ah! All decisive games for Edouard. Love the fighting chess!
Aug-27-14  notyetagm: <LucB: ... assuming you believe the story of course! ;o)>

Je ne le crois pas.

ketchuplover: Maze and Edouard with 1 draw each so far
Aug-28-14  jerseybob: This is not your father's French Championship; they've really got some strong players these days in France.
Aug-29-14  posoo: RICULOUS. Dis is another example of why tournament chess is a JOKE. Draughs should be worth FEWER points then a loss! EDOUARD is da riteful winner

FIDE needs to adopt da Posooian Scoring System for their tonanents.

TWO points win
ONE point loss
ZERO POINTS draugh

These incentives are da ONLY way that da humans can keep up with da compoters!!

Aug-29-14  Everett: <posoo> your suggestion is not a solution, as it would result in players throwing games in the last rounds to secure the best placement.

Perhaps a round of study in game theory would help you out.

perfidious: There is, regrettably, no perfect solution and there will always be players who try to work every angle they can for the smallest of edges.
