Peligroso Patzer: <virginmind: yea, only draw for bologan....> Probably so, but it seems that 61. g4 is the only move that holds for Kosintseva. She is taking a long time (unless the site is frozen). Will she find it?
Jan-21-07  Karpova: This draw is another great success for Tatiana who is still at 50% though having played against most of the strongest participants like Bu Xiangzhi, Sargissian, Jakovenko and Bologan!

Peligroso Patzer: Fascinating game between Jakovenko and Vachier Lagrave today. (27. … Qd8 was the last move played as I write this.) Vachier Lagrave has made a lot of progress untangling his pieces after grabbing the e-pawn. The game has great significance for the tournament competition, of course, with Jakovenko starting the day in fifth place 1.5 points behind leader Vachier Lagrave. Of the three players who started the day tied for second one point behind VL, Eljanov has already won and Bologan seems to have a huge advantage against Nijboer. Bu Xiangzhi also seems to have good chances for a full point today.

Peligroso Patzer: For those who may be interested, here is a link to the very interesting game on which <virginmind> and I were commenting during Round 8 (Jan-21-07):

T Kosintseva vs Bologan, 2007

Jan-24-07  sapfy: <Karpova: This draw is another great success for Tatiana who is still at 50%>

She's on -1 actually, but still performing about 100 points higher than expected. She'll need +1 in the final four rounds for a GM norm.

Karpova's comment was posted at the end of Round 8 (right after the draw in T. Kosintseva-Bologan). At that time, Tatiana was +2 -2 =4, squarely on 50%.

Jan-24-07  virginmind: bravo for bologan for today's victory too.

Peligroso Patzer: After 65. b5, Jakovenko seems to be winning against Vachier Lagrave. That will really tighten things up in the Group B standings.
Jan-25-07  PaulKeres: <Peligroso Patzer>, yep, and Jako won, so 3 in joint first now. How many can get promoted to GM-A? Can all 3 go into A if they all come joint first? Or are only two allowed promotion?
Jan-25-07  PaulKeres: <sapfy>, how do you get information like that... about what's required for norms? Can you give me a link? I hope she does it.
Jan-25-07  virginmind: <PaulKeres>: i thought there is only one to be promoted in B in next corus. but you never know. i think it will be great if bologan will be invited to play in group B next year.
Jan-25-07  virginmind: sorry, bologan for group A (not B) next year
Jan-25-07  sapfy: <Peligroso Patzer: Karpova's comment was posted at the end of Round 8>

Oops, didn't notice the date.

<PaulKeres: <sapfy>, how do you get information like that... about what's required for norms?>

I have spreadsheet with the crosstables which calculates elo-change and tpr.

Requirements for title norms are determined by FIDE. Look on their website in the Handbook under the section called "International Title Regulations."

Jan-26-07  PaulKeres: Thank you <virginmind>, <sapfy>, <sisyphus>. Looking forward to todays games. Its getting interesting. I'd like to see Stellwagen come up his recent good form for example ...
Jan-26-07  PaulKeres: Vachier_Lagrave - Eljanov is an rather old opening, Giuoco Piano, Moller (c3). Could be interesting if he has anything new... I always feel very comfortable with it myself as black ...
Jan-26-07  Karpova: Vachier-Lagrave -Eljanov 0-1
Jan-26-07  sitzkrieg: im listening PK. dont cry no longer)
Jan-26-07  Theologue: Down the exchange at move 40, Bologan's in the fight for his life.

Bologan-Sargissian:

Jan-26-07  dehanne: What a blunder by Vachier-Lagrave. Unbelievable.

And what the heck was Spoelman's Qg5??

Jan-26-07  slomarko: Vachier's position was already lost at that time.
