Reykjavik Open (2015) The 30th Reykjavik Open was a 272-player 10-round Swiss held in the Harpa conference center near downtown Reykjavik, Iceland, 10-18 March 2015. Rounds 2 and 3 were both played on 11 March. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. No draw offers allowed before move 31. First prize: 5000 euros. Tournament director: Gunnar Bjornsson. Chief Arbiter: Omar Salama. Number of games played: 1310. In Round <7>, the <1st> seed (Mamedyarov) lost. In Round <8>, the <2nd> seed (Navara) lost. Could it be that in Round <9> the <3rd> seed (Eljanov) loses? Looks like Mamedyarov is making a "comeback" vs Stopa to get to 7, while Movsesian falls again, to a player 150 pts below him, and this player, Grover, will also move to 7 pts. Mar-17-15    Penguincw: Navara beats Marc Esserman (2426) for his first win since Friday (4 days ago). Mar-17-15    haydn20: l'Ami persisted in a drawing position, and his opponent faltered, so at least l'Ami has an initiative. Mar-17-15    Penguincw: And Hansen has drawn the 3rd seed Eljanov. Eljanov was under mild time pressure, but a 3-fold repetition secured the draw. Huge result for Hansen, as he proves he can play any type of opposition. Prior to facing the 1st and 3rd seeds, the average rating of his opponents was 2349! Not only it is a huge result for Hansen, but it's a big one for L'Ami as well. If he at least draws Melkumyan, he will clinch at least a share of first; a win would secure first. In his game, he is up a pawn in a rook and queen endgame. His opponent also has 2 minutes to play 6 moves. Mar-17-15    haydn20: That olde wisdom--when outplayed complicate--saves Mosesian. He gives Black a choice between a reasonable move and a winning move, and Black misses the winning 26...Kxe7.
