Nov-06-21  nok: Wouldn't be surprised if <JAM> was Carlsen's troll account.

Hint: <Justin>other master

Nov-06-21  ndg2: Good grind-down by Alireza Firouzja against David Howell in round 10, which makes him again the sole tournament leader. Unless he loses in the last round, Firouzja is through and will proceed to the candidates.
Nov-06-21  nok: One game currently at move 125

Dang, there's really nothing to do in Corona Riga...

MissScarlett: Can't wait to be here Monday to find out from <Albertan> who qualifies for the Candidates.

perfidious: These updates are a day late. Firouzja's comeuppance was posted here yesterday.

Yawn.

Nov-06-21  devere: Oparin can qualify by beating Firouzja in round 11. If so, Firouzja might still qualify on tiebreaks if Fab doesn't beat Predke. A draw for Firouzja and a win for Fab and they are both qualified for sure.
Nov-06-21  virginmind: After winning with black against Maghsoodloo today, Deac is at +3. Will play with Esipenko in the last round. Not bad!
Nov-06-21  ndg2: Maybe Oparin is content with qualifying for the Grand Prix series and it will be a short draw?
Nov-06-21  Olavi: Given that Caruana won't lose, MVL and others are out, but Yu has a chance if he wins. It then depends on the Sonneborn-Berger, if I'm not mistaken, so can be decided in some game on board 30...
Nov-06-21  fisayo123: I think Oparin will try and not go crazy. I'm expecting Firouzja to keep it as tight and solid as possible
Nov-06-21  Olavi: But OK, Caruana's S-B is overwhelming compared to Yu's, so it's between the three at the top.
Nov-06-21  Refused: As long as they don't lose tomorrow Firouzja and Caruana will qualify. Caruana should be safe with 7.5 points thanks to his victory over Firouzja, that just gives him an edge over anybody on the tiebreaks. If Firouzja doesn't lose, he is on 8 points, and 8 points are enough to outright qualify (possibly winning the tournament; reasonably assuming Caruana will prioritize a safe qualification for the Candidates over winning the tournament).
Nov-06-21  Olavi: <Refused> If Firouzja draws, he wins the tournament, because he beats Caruana on the first tiebreak, Buchholz-1.
Nov-07-21  Albertan: FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Round 10:Firouzja sole leader again:

Nov-07-21  Nov8: Fide Grand Swiss Tie-break

a) Buchholz cut1
b) Buchholz
c) Sonneborn-Berger
d) Direct Encounter
e) Drawing of Lots
Buchholz cut1, after 10th rd.
Firouzja 56.5
Caruana 55
Oparin 50.5

Nov-07-21  Nov8: If Oparin beats Firouzja and Caruana draws and some players having 6.5 pts won their final game/s, it's still Firouzja who will have the second ticket
Nov-07-21  Olavi: I'm slightly puzzled that Sargissian played the well known forced draw. I thought places third to eight' qualified for the Grand Prix, and he's sitting ninth before the last round, now needs one of MVL, Yu, Predke, Keymer to lose.
Nov-07-21  fisayo123: So the amazing 18 year old Firouzja is in.

Who else will join him?

Nov-07-21  Olavi: <I'm slightly puzzled that Sargissian played the well known forced draw. I thought places third to eight' qualified for the Grand Prix, and he's sitting ninth before the last round, now needs one of MVL, Yu, Predke, Keymer to lose.>

And indeed that none of Petrosyan, Nihal, Sasikiran wins (none of them will).

Nov-07-21  nok: <So the amazing 18 year old Firouzja is in.>

"A Night at the Oparin"

Nov-07-21  devere: Firouzja wins the tournament and Fab qualifies. For once a FIDE event goes well. Now two more candidates spots left for the Feb-April 22 Grand Prix. to decide.
Nov-07-21  devere: Wikipedia now shows Fab as having qualified for the candidates tournament, and the last round hasn't even finished yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World... .
Nov-07-21  Refused: Sjugirov - Vitiugov was nuts. Either player was winning at some point in that game.

And Yilmaz will kick himself for blundering away a full point against Alekseenko.

Can somebody aupdate me on the GP qualifiers.

I figure it's

Oparin, Yu, MVL, Shirov and Keymer, and ?

Nov-07-21  Olavi: Predke, I presume.
