flimflam48: Hmm...does this really do justice to chess at this rapid rate? Surely it's merely reaction stuff? Hardly any time to think, plan or devise a lasting strategy? Seems that otherwise very good players are simply falling foul...of TIME?? Not impressed at all!

Check It Out: Nice to see Topalov back in action!

keithbc: 25 mins plus 10 secs per game is not 'reaction stuff'. You are thinking of blitz or even bullet - that is more appropriate but 25+10 is quite some time to formulate some plans and strategies.

Atterdag: I am with keithbc on this. We have seen many rapids with 15 minutes, so this is actually what I recall as normal sufficient rapid time from my playing days.

Check It Out: Agreed, 25+10 is serious chess at this level. Hard to tell these days when a comment is also serious or merely trolling.

tamar: It is entertaining, but not serious. Having to play three rounds per day further dilutes the quality of play, but in return we get more decisive results.

You don’t get clashes like Carlsen vs P Maghsoodloo, 2025, but those are rare in any format.
