Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Donner Memorial Group B (1994)

The Donner Memorial was organized as a tribute to Jan Hein Donner, who died in 1988 and was one of the strongest players the Netherlands. In 1994, the tournament had two invitation groups: Group A, with national and international top players, and Group B, with former opponents of Donner. The 1995 and 1996 editions had only one group. In addition, a Donner Memorial Open (sometimes called Dutch Open) was organized, the winner of which could call himself Dutch Open Champion and had the right to participate in the A event the following year. The organization was in the hands of the Foundation for Promotion of Chess Sports in the Netherlands. The costs were paid by a private financier, who backed out after three years. (Dutch Wikipedia)
