LIFE Master AJ

- LMAJ ... scratches his head!?
Interesting puzzles ... that I did not get!
Sure ... I tried. But for whatever reason, the master did not get them. Now, it is your turn. Can you get the POTD's that I missed?
|
| 1 game, 1957 - LMAJ's "Great games of the 21st Century."
A great game of fighting chess. (At least not another boring draw!)
|
| 3 games, 2004-2005 - LMAJ's "Mad, Mad WIZARD at Work!!!" (Bronstein)
I am asked - nearly constantly - to make a game collection for many of the most famous players. (I also get nearly constant requests for web pages as well. <<***SIGH***>> If only a day had 250 hours in it ... instead of a measly 24!) ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** Few names (in chess) illicit awe from the average fan ... the list is not that long. (Capa, Fischer, Kasparov, etc.) Few chess-player's could call themselves true artists of the board. (Capablanca, Rubinstein, Fischer.) Not many players were extremely creative at the chess board. (Tal, Nimzovich, etc.) Few players could claim to be some of the best chess authors ... of all time. (Kotov, Tal, Fischer, etc.) And I cannot think of many players that would belong on ALL of these lists ... however, one name ... ( David Bronstein ) does spring to mind! SUPER-GM David Bronstein - was a wonderful player ... and (in his prime) ... played chess almost unlike any other player. [Half the time - I don't even understand the moves that he makes ... nor am I able to reasonably ascertain the process whereby he was able to make the moves that he played in many of his "Great Games." Of course, I am not the only one who feels this way - see Irving Chernev's chapter on this player in the book, <"The Golden Dozen,"> (12 of the Greatest Chess Players of all Time.) So if I cannot follow Bronstein's moves ... nor possibly <ever> predict them, then I am not alone.] This player was also an EXCELLENT writer; many of his works are deeply cherished by chess players around the world. Two of the best and most famous books of all time, were written by this player. ["A Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "The Chess Struggle in Practice."] Created - Friday; May 6th, 2011.
***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** I know that I have annotated several of Bronstein's games, however, when I first went looking for a few (on-line) examples, I could not find any. Then I (happily) found - Bronstein vs Ljubojevic, 1973, which is annotated by me on the Internet. (http://www.lifemasteraj.com/old_af-...)
|
| 21 games, 1941-1975 - LMAJ's ---> Nothing but a swindle!
A game collection for when the winner did little more than bamboozle his/her opponent. (If you know of one of these, please let me know so I can add it to this collection.)
|
| 1 game, 1981 - LMAJ's favorite & instructive Endgames!
These are examples of excellent play by one or both sides ... see my comments in the text, I will try to comment on all of the games that I add to this collection.
|
| 1 game, 1937 - LMAJ's favorite games in the Evans Gambit.
Tuesday; April 15th, 2014: I knew I had to make this collection ... even though I may already have too many collections, and most will never be finished or complete. See Opening Explorer, (on the Evans Gambit). Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evans_.... [Three asterisks indicates that I have a web page on that game.]
|
| 7 games, 1852-1995 - LMAJ's games that computers do not get
I decided to collect games where computers get it wrong. Its not often. I was telling a young novice ... ... ... during the Anand - Topalov World Championship Match (2010) ... ... ... that there are quite a few endings where the computers are NOT accurate. However, he had a couple of years of experience, and his belief was that the "ENGINES ARE ALWAYS RIGHT." So I decided to record - here - any games where the engines failed to arrive at the correct answer.
|
| 1 game, 1968 - Mates ... and other back-rank themes.
Call it "Chess 101." Here's an introduction to a simple group of problems. The theme? The loser had a weakness or inability to protect his first rank. (Naturally, most of these examples were culled from the daily puzzles here at "Chess Games.") These will range in difficulty from "Very Easy" to downright difficult.

| 3 games, 1982-2007 - My best games ... ... ...
11 games, 1974-2012 - My favorite M. TAL Games.

Here I will pick my favorite games of Mikhail Tal ... one of the greatest geniuses to ever play the game. (This is just a VERY small sampling, please do not feel that it is complete in ANY way!!!) ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** March 21st, 2014. I originally made this collection a number of years ago ... maybe when this site first opened. (I did it under another handle, and had to repeat the effort when I got this one.) Anyway, just this year, we have seen the following games as the POTD: <#1.)> Tal vs Lutikov, 1964 <#2.)> Tal vs Petrosian, 1974 <#3.)> Tal vs B Dudley, 1964 Without question, Tal is one of my favorite players ... and also one of the greatest tactical players of all time ... his gift was nearly unequaled! Please enjoy!!! NOTE: If you find a Tal game that you like ... and you think it belongs in this collection ... please bring it to my attention. (THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!! ... in advance.)
|
| 21 games, 1956-1992 - My picks ----> The chess of Tigran V. Petrosian.
I have always wanted to have a game collection dedicated to each of the great players. The following page is my own, personal monument to this player: http://www.lifemasteraj.com/great_c....
|
| 2 games, 1970-1982 - My picks ---> GM L. Aronian's Best Games
4 games, 2004-2011 - Nezhmetdinov wins!!!!!
A fantastic attacking player ... you can learn a lot by studying his games. [Several of these games, I have annotated in depth, the link will be on the page itself. However - for the sake of convenience - I have also provided a DIRECT LINK to MY analysis ... just below here.] ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** 1.) http://www.lifemasteraj.com/old_af-... - My analysis of Nezh's incredible (1962) game with Chernikov. 2.) http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera... - My analysis of Nezh's brilliant game with Kotkov. 3.) http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera... - My analysis of Nezh's glorious win over Belov. 4.) http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera... - This is my analysis of Nezh's SUPER-BRILLIANT game over another chess legend ... ... ...

| 7 games, 1946-1970 - Pins and things ...
Pins are one of the simplest tactical motif's around, yet many amateurs still miss this tactical resource. Call this a collection for beginners and real novices, something to whet your teeth on.
|
| 2 games, 2007-2012 - Quick K.O.'s / Opening Traps
This is a collection of all the neat little opening traps that I run across. I definitely want these to be simple, 10-15 moves in length ... at the most. (Please drop me a note if you know of any.)
|
| 14 games, 1895-2010 - Selected Games ... by (Super-GM) Paul Keres.
Paul Keres has always been one of my (chess) heroes. On one of my very first web pages that I created myself, (http://www.ajschess.com/lifemastera... Paul Morphy and Paul Keres were the first two players that I mentioned. [An excellent game collection (for the games of this player) would be: Game Collection: The Road to the Top & The Quest for Perfection compiled by Bidibulle. (All the games from the two books that John Nunn did on this player - Nunn apparently went back into old magazines <+ books> and found all the annotations that were originally done by Keres himself.)]

| 6 games, 1933-1972 - SPACE ... don't forget about it!
Sunday; April 6th, 2014.
<Today's POTD featured the game:> Ding Liren vs Aronian, 2013. click for larger viewWhite to play ... and make his 36th move.
(http://en.chessbase.com/post/alekhi..., The CB article, where this game is annotated in some detail. IMO, these annotations are pretty good, you can also DL a copy to your PC.) ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** This game made such an impression on me that I decided to create this GC just to memorialize it. (If you know of any other games that should be included, please drop me a line.) The #2.) game <(when it is posted)> will be the 2006 game between Bu Xiangzhi and F. Berkes. (Space played a huge factor there, as well, see my player page for a copy of the PGN score.) The #3.) game is a famous game of Capablanca's ... and it immediately came to mind when I made this game collection. (It is a fairly well-known game on this website, <"V" for Victory>.) ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** http://www.chess.com/livechess/game...
Another game that shows the importance of space ... ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** [I RE-SUMITTED THE FOLLOWING GAME TODAY - please see my player page, A J Goldsby ... for a PGN copy of the game: Xiangzhi Bu - Ferenc Berkes Taiyuan Schev; China / 2006. It's an impressive game where space is also a factor.]
