Mar-31-12  King Death: The maneuver with ...Ng6-h8-f7-g5xh3 is the end for White's king. Nice work by the great one!

LIFE Master AJ: In the CLASSIC KID book (Barden Hartston and Keene; 1973), in the introductory notes, they call this "One of the best KID games ever played."

Jul-18-12  JoergWalter: "There Is No Indispensable Man"
by Saxon N. White Kessinger, Copyright 1959

Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room,

Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining
Is a measure of how you will be missed.

You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop and you'll find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before.

The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man.

LIFE Master AJ: Rhymes of an idiot. (Pointless. And it has no bearing or connection to this game!)

perfidious: <JoergWalter> There are a few people in this world who would do well to remember that little poem.

Though a blitz game, this remains a classic example of Black's possibilities in the King's Indian when given a free hand.

Jul-26-12  JoergWalter: <perfidious> this little poem was meant for the poor persecuted poster who finally decided <that I will probably not be renewing my premium membership.>

I shall probably NOT miss him.

The game - I love it.

perfidious: <JoergWalter> When I came back to CG, he went straight to ignore. Life's a lot easier that way.

The 'threat' of not renewing is probably just another play for sympathy. Let him whine to the few who tolerate his antics.

In the 1990s, when I was playing the King's Indian, the move I played in this was also 9....c5. By then, though, the popular reply had become 10.dxc6 bxc6 11.b4 d5 12.Ba3, which is what I faced in my only game against 9.Nd2.

It's unfortunate that this game featured the strategic error bxc5, but it was the very early days of this whole line, and if even great players can make mistakes, we ordinary mortals are more than capable. Anyone who doubts that need only look at some of my games on CG!

Jul-26-12  Colonel Mortimer: <JoergWalter:> Great poem!

Or maybe he's just cheap. I heard that donations to his web-site have fallen off lately. Sad, really. I mean, those award-winning web pages and YouTube videos should have money funneling in, at least enough to pay for a Premium Membership here.

It's getting harder and harder for a LifeMaster to make a living. Perhaps we should run a telethon to raise some money for him?

Anyone got change for a nickel?

Jul-26-12  Colonel Mortimer: <TheFocus:> lol

harrylime: Blitz game and Fischer certainly did blitz Korchnoi.

Only Fischer can advance chess so far in ideas thru a blitz game....

Jul-26-12  TheFocus: <JoergWalter> I love the poem. It really fits <AJ> to a T.

I wish I had written it.

Jul-26-12  I play the Fred: <Nikolai>, if you can spare the time, please drop into my forum. I have questions for you which shouldn't take up space here.
Jul-26-12  TheFocus: <Fred> Be careful what you ask for...

But I may have to be discreet in some of my answers.

Aug-19-12  hedgeh0g: <The 'threat' of not renewing is probably just another play for sympathy. Let him whine to the few who tolerate his antics.>

There's no way he'd ever let his premium membership expire. Someone so vain and egotistical couldn't live without having his portrait attached to his posts.

Oct-23-12  blitzpatzer: Nh8..Nf7..Ng5..Nxh3.. boom!
Nov-30-12  Olsonist: The black queen never moves and the knight goes on an odyssey! This game is just soo much fun.

Seven moves: Nc6 Ne7 Ng6 Nh8 Nf7 Ng5 Nxh3

By the time it gets sac'd on move 28, a quarter of Black's moves are by that Knight.

GrahamClayton: Another game where Black wins in 30 moves without moving his Queen:

Maroczy vs Lasker, 1924

Jun-24-15  Sniffles: Consider this. At 15... Rf6 Fischer saw that he could control that side of the board. All he needed was to advance his pawn on g5 to take control.

At 17...Rg6 he knew he had complete control and had calculated the various moves he would have to put his knights through.

At 19... Pg4 he had won the game. If Korchnoi had been awake he would have resigned at that point. As Fischer noted 21 Rf3 was weird and the end of the game.

The irony came in at 21...Rh6. In appearance, a superficial feint. In actuality, Fischer was just giving the second knight room to move. Knights and Rook in a complex dance.

Oct-15-15  ToTheDeath: Much was made of the byzantine Knight manuever g6-h8-f7-g5 but in fact the more obvious sortie 24...Nh4! was also strong: 25.Rd3 Nxg2! 26.Kxg2 Qe8 and White is going to have trouble defending e4 and h3, not to mention his king.

HeMateMe: geez, classic Bob. Korchnoi is a spectator after move 20. Zero counter play on the queenside, and the center can't be opened.
