GrahamClayton: Kalinovsky and his wife Galina were both doctors - they married in the Soviet Union in 1939, and emigrated to Australia in 1949, settling in Adelaide. Kalinovsky was a regular competitor in the South Australian championship in the 1950's and early 1960's:

1954 - 2nd, 3.5/5
1955 - =3rd-4th, 3/6
1956 - 1st, 10/11
1957 - 2nd, 5.5/7
1958 - 3rd, 5/9
1960 - 2nd 8/11

Kalinovsky competed in the Australian championship when it was held in Adelaide in 1960 - he finished 15th of 23 players, with a score of 7/15. Yuri Averbakh, who competed in the tournament, said that Kalinovsky was inconsistent and nervous, and went to pieces against stronger players.
