Feb-10-09  acirce: Btw, I love this part of the interview:

<Why is this fear from electronic devices in chess?

<There is some kind of hysteria. Chess media talk too much about that. It is something interesting, something that sells. It is gossip, yellow news, intrigue...>> http://interviews.chessdom.com/topa...

Feb-11-09  slomarko: yeah because he's not right, many top players were caught using electronic devices. <acirce> when are you going to stop spamming CG with your crap?
Apr-17-09  Billy Vaughan: <i am not sure that winning mtel three times is because of home advantage, since topalov has won many other tournaments. he has also started badly in other tournaments, but at mtels, his play in the beginning was particularly weak.>

I wouldn't be surprised if he saves his good prep for MTel as well. Even last year Topalov got +3 anyways and only placed second because of Godzillachuk.

May-05-09  VaselineTopLove: Another steaming pile of #@$%! from Drama King Danailov. Funny rant about the chess oscar.

http://interviews.chessdom.com/silv...

Personally i'd rank Anand's Linares 2008 win and Bonn win higher than Topalov's Bilbao and Nanjing wins.

May-05-09  VaselineTopLove: Does anyone know who is referring to from Chessbase? Frederic Friedel?
May-05-09  acirce: <Does anyone know who is referring to from Chessbase? Frederic Friedel?>

Yes, definitely.

<The Chess Oscar award does not surprise me at all, after Elista 2006 is very difficult to imagine that Veselin will get any award from Russia. This is typical political decision, otherwise they will probably close the "64" magazine.

Look, for every person with common sense it is obvious that Topalov had by far the best results in 2008. He won the strongest tournaments in Bilbao and Nanjing and he is number one in the World ratings with big margin. The biggest result of Vishy was to beat the player number six in the world in the World Championship match.>

He is really becoming a parody of himself.

May-05-09  AnalyzeThis: Most people just want to know who the champ is.

Oscar is a character who hangs out in trash cans. He's related to Chess Oscar.

May-05-09  VaselineTopLove: <acirce> what's Danailov's hang up with Frederic Friedel?
May-05-09  blacksburg: Danailov has a hang up with anyone that doesn't think Topalov is the best thing since sliced bread.

Many GMs commented that Danailov/Topalov's conduct at Elista was disgusting. Frederic committed the unspeakable crime of printing their comments.

grkoste: Which Silvio picture should they print? The one where he's laughing with glee at the Game Five forfeit? The one where he's standing with his finger at his throat making eyes with VesTop? The one where he's striding out of the playing venue reaching for his cellphone?

Troller: <walker: Who is Stoichkov?> Without having read any of the linked interviews I assume Hristo Stoichkov, probably the best footballer ever from Bulgaria. He must be on wiki.
May-05-09  walker: Footballer?? lol Hugging Spasky?
May-05-09  acirce: <grkoste> is right. It's that and that he published Breutigam's article ( http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... ), Short's interview in DNA India ( http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?... ), and wrote about various cheating accusations/insinuations/suspicions that followed. (<We publish stories that we deem interesting and newsworthy. When very severe accusations of cheating were raised by Silvio Danailov against Vladimir Kramnik during the world championship match in Elista, we published them, whether we personally felt that they were justified or not.> - http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... ) A funny thing about that whole story is that Chessbase was first regularly blamed by some Topalov fans for <not> publishing for instance Dolmatov's accusations against Topalov. Later on they became hate object no.1 when they <did> write about the fact that he was accused.

In what was a pretty interesting twist, Danailov and Topalov both said that the anonymous Dutch fan sending that Danailov video to Kommersant ( http://www.kommersant.com/p741182/F... , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz72... ) is really Friedel.

Don't know if they have ever bothered to produce any evidence at all, or if Friedel has bothered replying to this accusation.

See this bizarre interview http://interviews.chessdom.com/silv...

And later, annotating Topalov vs Anand, 2008 for New In Chess, Topalov - in a rare moment of showing humour above toilet level - starts out by saying <This game is dedicated to Frederic Friedel, also known as the 'anonymous Dutch chess fan', winner of the MTV 2007 Award for the best chess video.>

May-05-09  WhiteRook48: also manager of Ivan Cheparinov
May-05-09  Augalv: <for every person with common sense it is obvious that Topalov had by far the best results in 2008. He won the strongest tournaments in Bilbao and Nanjing and he is number one in the World ratings with big margin. The biggest result of Vishy was to beat the player number six in the world in the World Championship match. Great achievement, of course, but not enough to win the Oscar.>

May-05-09  walker: Danailov is a troll. The best troll in the world:)
May-05-09  Dredge Rivers: Luuuuke! I am your father!
Nov-11-09  Billy Vaughan: Does anyone still have that photo of Danailov doing an <evil laugh> at an otherwise somber press conference?
Nov-11-09  SamAtoms1980: This guy is a thug, and a mobster. If Topalov were a self-respecting player I have no idea why he would associate himself with the likes of him. Not only does Danailov constantly pull all kinds of outrageous crap on behalf of Topalov, but he accuses his opponents' camps of doing the same. He really needs to just STFU.....

Just STFU.....

P.S. If by some unlikely chance Topalov should steal the title from Anand, he will not hold onto it for long. Magnus Carlsen would blow the ever-loving holy #$%& of mother out of Topalov in a title match...

Nov-12-09  badest: <P.S. If by some unlikely chance Topalov should steal the title from Anand, he will not hold onto it for long. Magnus Carlsen would blow the ever-loving holy #$%& of mother out of Topalov in a title match...> Sorry but Anand/Kramnik/Topalov would spank the boy in a match if they are in decent form. People that say that Carlsen will demolish NN always seem to assume that Magus is playing at 2900+ strength and his opponents at about 2750 ...
Nov-12-09  pawn to QB4: <If Topalov were a self-respecting player I have no idea why he would associate himself with the likes of him>. yes, I too think Danailov comes across as pretty gruesome. But if I were advising Vishy Anand I'd be telling him that, now he's taken the decision to play in Bulgaria, he should be scouring the chess world for someone equally horrid to fight his corner if required. As for why Topalov associates with him...must be great to have someone do the office politics for you, while most of the damage to reputation ends up with him instead of you.
Nov-12-09  Blunderdome: <badest>, you are a Topalov fan. What do you think of his manager?
