 | | Memorable Quotes: <ravel5184> I'm still very much around, I just do the kibitzing with my other self. I assume everyone knows I'm User: TheAlchemist, with which I'm signed in by default and don't want to always have to sign out, in, out and in again just to post a kibitz here. I only use this account to do a bit of cleaning up on my forum here and there and to add games to and edit my Memorable Quotes' Game Collections. |

| Sep-24-08 | | ravel5184: From jessicafischerqueen chessforum: achieve: <Mrs. Has an Ego but secretly doesn't believe there's really such a thing as an ego.> I secretly am inclined to agree, pending on the definition of "Ego" -- but I catch your drift...

| Sep-26-08 | | TheBB: From Alekhine vs Golombek, 1938 - puzzle of the day on september 26, 2008: <Alphastar: Another nice combination by your friendly neigbourhood Alekhine-man! Alekhine-man, Alekhine-man, does whatever an Alekhine-man can! Spins a combo any size, catches mistakes just like flies, Alekhine-man! \0/> <whiteshark: One of this rare occasions where Alekhine sees a lot more than me. :D> |

| Sep-26-08 | | TheBB: Also this one, from the same source.
<YouRang: It took me a while to see the winning idea:It requires good acting. Looking bored and tired, I play 19.g4!?, and after just the right pause, I slap my forehead and look away, muttering "pah, how could I just drop a pawn like that?". If my opponent offers to let me take it back, I act pleased and grateful, but just as I'm about to do it, I shake my head and announce with great nobility that "it just wouldn't be right". With a resigned look on my face, my opponent will cheerfully take the pawn with 19...fxg4?. Now, I pounce like a cat! 20.Qxh7+ and after 20...Kf8 I sink my claws in with 21.Qh8+ Ke7 22.Qxg7+ Ke8 23.Qf7# Today's puzzle was rather difficult because they usually don't do psychological puzzles. I bet a lot of people don't get it.> |

I tried to play Fritz at move 40 but it refused to play with black pieces. <Philistine>: resign resign resign. Kramnik has let me down. I will have to sell a kidney to make up for the money I lost on these games. |

| Oct-21-08 | | Eyal: Anand-Kramnik World Championship Match (2008) <csmath: I also think Anand is not playing fair with this d4 thing. This is pure psychological game against Vlady. If Vlady is healthy this would not work but when Vlady has health problems it is possible.> |

| Oct-21-08 | | Jim Bartle: I just discovered this forum, and there are many classic quotes included. I'm surprised and pleased to be included a couple of times. But you're all competing for the second greatest quote, because the unquestioned greatest of all was posted on Jan. 9 on the World vs. G. Timmerman page: <FerociousBeast: I just got out of jail I am ready to Join in and HELP you noobs before you lose this position.> |

| Oct-24-08 | | Eyal: Vladimir Kramnik [Regarding the question as to why Kramnik chose Laurent Fressinet as one of his seconds for the match against Anand] <acirce: Kramnik used to work with Lautier. Lautier was married to Skripchenko, but they divorced and she is now married to Fressinet. So what happened is probably that Kramnik, unaware of these events, called Skripchenko, and told her to ask her husband if he was willing to assist him against Anand. When he realized the mistake, it was too late. (No, I don't know the real story.)>

| Oct-25-08 | | Eyal: And here is something which might shed a new light on current events in Bonn: <krivin: I was looking from a different angle how two people will fair on a particular day using Karmic vibrations that work on them. I spoke to Vishy before he left for 2007 Mexico world championship in India. I felt impelled to communicate to him 6 hrs before he played his 3rd game in Bonn about what is going to happen through intuition and I did it [...] I told him what is going to happen on the 3rd game.I used very few sentences and words.I told that it is intuition. I have not disclosed or elaborated about the origin of that intuition which have been with me for more than a year.I have been reserving it somehow for long. I can only say this much now..that is..There is a common string attached through out his , Anand`s life, which became pronounced so deeply in all richness this time revealing the truth on its own. It has its spiritual side too. I am not in a position to go further.> Viswanathan Anand |

So long and thanks for all the studies.> |

| Oct-25-08 | | Eyal: Mtel Masters (2007) (Mamedyarov-Sasikiran) <percyblakeney: Mamedyarov has an advantage if one looks at the names on the scoresheet, but that isn't always enough to win.> <Mateo: Yes, I see. Mamedyarov, that's 10 letters and Sasikiran, 9 letters. Advantage of one letter for Mamedyarov. What's the difference in number of letters that gives winning prospects according to you?> |
