alexmagnus: <Rdb> There are no settlements in Gaza since 2005.

As for the West Bank, I think no new settlements should be build, and the existing ones should be slowly but surely deconstructed. Slowly nothing good for either country came from the hasty "disengangement" from Gaza in 2005. Neither side was really prepared for it. It was pure chaos.

This is why I said about a need for a deoccupation <plan>. Without a plan, this conflict is doomed to continue forever. At best a plan approved by both sides.

alexmagnus: The Hamas appeared long before Netanyahu became PM, in the late 1980s.

Israel did indeed not disturb its early years in any way, hoping to create a counterweight to the PLO, which, as the internationally recognized sole representative of the Palestinian people, became quite powerful.

What Israel didn't foresee: the Hamas will become even more powerful. And unlike PLO, which eventually recognized Israel, Hamas is not even close to such a recognition. Also, Hamas has been more radical in its methods since the very beginning. Allowing it to exist without any obstacles was quite a blunder.

Now it's exactly the opposite: the once mightly PLO, and the PA, plays no role and is hated by most Palestinians.

<nok: I won't name names, but I noticed the libs who like to say "omg omg Lenin killed Tsarina Alexandra" are strangely quiet since the start of the full-on genocide> OK, once again , <alexmagnus> or someone else help me here , if you please - how is what Israel doing a genocide ?

What Israel is doing may be a very bad police and israelis may be hasty and therefore inhumane/inconsiderate due to that haste but how is it genocide when all they trying to do is to eliminate a terrorist organisation viz hamas

Thank you. Regards

Nov-02-23  Rdb: Part 2
I repost this insightful article - not in order to condone any sufferings caused by this war to Palestinians but to wonder if some other nation/people could have done any different than what Israel is doing in response to October 7 if they decoded to go for war on a terrorist organization. I mean either it is war on terror or some other policy . If war on terror is the response to October 7 , then

<The only true law of war is savagery. Gaza isn’t facing anything different There’s no reason to believe that any other kind of war in Gaza might have been more humane. The idea that war can be civilised by law has tranquillised our imagination>

Nov-03-23  Rdb: <nok: <diceman: <If the Palestinians weren’t launching rockets into Israel> They wouldn't be Palestinians.> You don't think a Good Guy with Rockets should stop a Bad Guy with Missiles?>

Presently , I am very busy with some legal case that I am dealing with at the place where I live.

However , I would like to expand my clarity/depth of understanding about palestinian/Israeli issue as soon as I get time (within a week hopefully)

And I would like the help of some of you who know the stuff . So far in my life , I never spent time to understand this issue deeply but now I really , really want to understand .

Help me guys , If you please .

So far , <alexmagnus> has been very helpful and I am grateful .

I have not yet engaged with <nok> much so far but I would like to because he has differing views from many others on this issue it seems and also it seems that he knows a lot of facts about this issue , he has spent time and energy to understand over the years , it seems . I would request for his help when I am ready and I would be grateful if he obliges.

Of course , as usual I would do my homework with the help of chatgpt , bard.googke.com and such

Thank you . Regards

alexmagnus: Regarding the genocide question: if the Palestinian number of deaths reported by the Hamas controlled authorities is correct, it could be considered one.

But there are serious doubts about those numbers. Especially after the Al-Ahli hospital incident, where the Hamas reported 200 dead initially, then increased the number to 500, while the damage suggests it was "no less than 10, no more than 100" - not to mention that it was likely caused by a misfired Palestinian rocket.

Nov-05-23  Rdb: Part 1

Chatgpt : Israel was created on May 14, 1948. The establishment of the State of Israel followed the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947, which recommended the partition of Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states. The declaration of the State of Israel was made by David Ben-Gurion, who became its first Prime Minister, and it marked the end of the British Mandate for Palestine. This declaration led to a war between the newly formed Israel and several Arab countries, which is known as the 1948 Arab-Israeli War

Nov-07-23  Rdb: I have a question , guys , If you please.
Far right leaders are problem - including Far right leaders of Israel, as well as of other countries like putin , Trump.

However , why should Israel be equated/identified with its Far right leaders ? Israel has had moderate leaders too - Rabin, for example. In fact , <alexmagnus> specifically mentioned Rabin and if I recall correctly <alexmagnus> wants Israel to return to pre natanyahu days , in political terms , and follow the kind of moderate , peaceful steps Rabin was taking .

Irussia is not putin the murderer , America is not Trump the murderer/cancer and Israel is not its far right leaders.

I liked post of <metatron2> - it was constructive as he said "cut to the chase . What should be done now "

<alexmagnus> has been using the similar tone - tone of peace and constructive solution which is fair to both Israel and Palestinians....

Israel bashers need to tone down rhetoric/outrage and instead should focus on talking about constructive solution .

And no compromise with terrorism - it must be defeated . Terrorism of hamas is worse than cancer - they are jehadis , religious extremists , for crying out loud. Wake up , guys - religious terrorism is worse than cancer and such . Hamas terrorism is cancer for humanity

So , guys , what do you think ? Give me some jnput , if you please , about this post of mine .

Thank you . Regards

Nov-12-23  Rdb: OK, here is a brilliant article specially for <johnlspouge> and <keypusher> and whoever else is capable of understanding it - I guess <alexmagnus> already is saying something similar ... <What Palestinians could have learnt from Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi’s message of non-violence is lost as both sides are overcome with rage and passion Friends have been asking me why I have not written on the Hamas-Israel bloodbath. I reply that I have little new to say on a conflict more than 75 years old that looks like it might continue for another century. is easy to assign blame to both sides. It is equally easy to give a long, horrifying history of the terrible oppression of both sides through the ages. I sometimes say, a la Shakespeare, “A plague on both your houses.” I have found myself defending Palestinians when talking to Jews, and defending Israelis when talking to Muslims. Both sides are full of passion and rage, unmindful of their own transgressions. Hamas is accused, rightly, of terrorism in its attack on an Israeli musical festival, killing women and children. Israel has killed far more women and children in its bombing of Gaza. More to the point. Jewish leaders galore were guilty of terrorist activity when Britain ruled the region till 1948. They blew up railways and bridges, blew up the British civilian headquarters in the King David Hotel, and assassinated former British Secretary of State for the Colonies Lord Moyne and UN mediator Count Bernadotte. The most vicious killers were the Stern Gang and Irgun, yet their leaders like Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir went on to become prime ministers of Israel. History is written by the winners.

Today, Benjamin Netanyahu is determined to decapitate Hamas. But even if he kills current Hamas leaders, new ones will rise, yearning for revenge. Mahatma Gandhi once said that if you seek an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, you will end up with a blind and toothless people. The peacemakers are weary and sidelined. The hawks dominate. Anwar El-Sadat, who negotiated Egypt’s peace accord with Israel in 1979, was assassinated by his own people for being too pro-Israel. Israel’s Yitzhak Rabin, who negotiated the 1993 Oslo accord for moving toward a two-state solution, was assassinated by his own people for being too pro-Palestinian. This is reminiscent of Mahatma Gandhi being assassinated by a Hindu for being too pro-Muslim.

In this column, let me focus on just one issue. Whatever the merits of the Palestinian side, it has lost out by its attraction to violence and refusal to use Gandhian tactics of peaceful non-cooperation>
