 | | OhioChessFan: Not a big deal, but if there's a simple fix for what I'm about to suggest, it would be nice for reviewing tournaments. As an example, per: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... Is there an easy way to show the round number of each 0-1 result? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Is there an easy way to show the round number> Not yet but it's coming for sure. Like many facets of CG, in the early days the data was so horrible that to display it would be a farce. But things have improved since 2002: now all of the new tournaments have reliable round numbers and the tireless volunteers have really helped the old PGN, so including round data is finally viable. |

 | | WannaBe: <chessgames.com> Got a funny request, and wonder how easy it is to implement... Can you put in a 'feature' that will ignore a whole forum/page. Say another big flame war broke out, and I'll just use Bobby Fischer's page as example here. I would like to not see Fischer's page on Recent Kibitzing Page Or if another big debate broke out on Grand Prix 2015, and I want to block out that page a few days. How easy would that be? |

 | | chessgames.com: <how easy it is to implement...> I sympathize with what you're trying to do but I can't think of any easy way to accomplish that. We have some built-in hooks to satisfy that kind of desire, like most of us know that Rogoff doesn't show up in the recent kibitzing, and little favors like that. But to make it completely invisible from all possible lists, that would be quite a trick. |

| May-26-17 | | thegoodanarchist: <offramp: I'm not a big fan of the Stockfish evaluations for openings. If you have an opening like the Fried Liver, Stockfish (this sound so like one of my recipes) > <chessgames.com: I know exactly what you mean, > You've been baking <offramp>'s recipes? You are a hearty fellow... |

 | | Richard Taylor: I've used the evaluations up to a point where I see them. They seem to be quite a number of ply deep. I added a couple of notes and the point is that if someone else goes there they can check it say on another computer or they can take note and play what they would want to play. That is always the case. A human useful eval doesn't always=computer eval. But it is a good feature on the OE.
I also found that in one var. there was a new move found by the computer. But everyone has to remain skeptical...Stockfish as said above will find blunders or obvious mistakes that sometimes GMs play at the highest level. Although I would say that would be rare, mostly - those cases - are lines not so much on the main menu but they might be "back up lines".... |

 | | chessgames.com: <I've used the evaluations up to a point where I see them. They seem to be quite a number of ply deep.> We try to run the evaluation engine longer on the most important positions but have also run it on some famously complex variations. Also, when the Opening of the Day comes around, we sometimes try to schedule a few 2-hour evals before it goes online at midnight. <I also found that in one var. there was a new move found by the computer.> Those two-hour evals often come up with that. For example yesterday we had Ruy Lopez, Closed, Smyslov Defense (C93) found here: Opening Explorer The computer concluded 10.♗c2 is the best move, after 35 ply (2 hours), in spite of it never being played in 488 games. (Seems a little odd, since 10.♗c2 is so thematic in those type positions.) Currently we're in the middle of a 24-hour evaluation of the starting position. The results of such a scan don't really mean much, but people find it amusing. What will be the very worst of the 20 opening moves? Does 1.b3 instantly equalize or does White retain a tiny advantage? Check back in about 10 hours and find out. But the real fun hasn't been revealed yet. Soon you'll be able to schedule your own evaluations not only on any Opening Explorer page, but for any move in any game in the database, or even for an arbitrary FEN string. |

| May-29-17 | | zanzibar: <<morfishine> At a certain stage, its all pattern recognition, thats the point of learning with regards to chess> That's exaggerating a little, imo, not giving calculation its rightful due. * * * * *
I still think some of that processing power should be used to plow through interesting games and - like doing a blundercheck - dropping in alternative lines at points where the engine sees a much better line than that played. . |

| May-29-17 | | thegoodanarchist: Hi chessgames.com!
When will you roll out the world championship page for Carlsen-Karjakin? It's been over 6 months now, and the last one in the list is still Carlsen-Anand: History of the World Chess Championship |

| May-31-17 | | User not found: Could you kindly check your email please Mr Freeman.. If there's any problem in any way will you please let me know? Thank you and enjoy your afternoon. Oh btw!! Is there a way of checking the most kibitzed games on this site? I want to know the most popular and analyzed gamess because I've already checked a lot of the major historical players bios for the notable games, and even though there's a few dozen pages of chatter on a few I just wanted to know the most talked about games so I can confuse myself that little bit more and waste an hour or so.. Thank you in advance :) |

 | | Richard Taylor: <chessgames> I wonder if you can try this in the Evans Gambit. I am pretty sure I had a computer on for a long time after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. b4 Bxb4 5. c3 then Komodo after some time came up with 5. ... Bd6 I was surprised but have tried it a few times in blitz. But I also saw a game, in a K-pawn opening where Aronian played that move. In the Evans the idea I think is reinforcement of e5 and possible prevention of f4. It is interesting that such a move, that GMs or strong players might reject I suppose, can be so good. It is interesting you are finding 'improvements'. Re this <Those two-hour evals often come up with that. For example yesterday we had Ruy Lopez, Closed, Smyslov Defense (C93) found here:Opening Explorer
The computer concluded 10.♗c2 is the best move, after 35 ply (2 hours), in spite of it never being played in 488 games. (Seems a little odd, since 10.♗c2 is so thematic in those type positions.)> Thanks for that I'll look at that. It is interesting to know 'the truth'! And investigating the first position is interesting. Shannon's estimate of all the number of games was too high but it is still very very large of course! |

 | | offramp: The great Acirce liked Eingorn vs Kupreichik, 1987. I think it would be good as a Game of the Day so I have submitted a pun. I don't like to plug my puns, usually, but This time I will. For this game it is "Eingorn to Bind Them". Eingorn is an anagram of One Ring, and he gets a white square bind. Great game! |
