Sargon: <Dr Winston OBoogie: [...] Sargon. If you'd like to point out which part of the bio breaks rules #3 and #5 I'd be glad to point out that they're not <my posts> they're the creep who's complaining about it!>

Quoting others' posts that have been deleted—or that <should> be (and therefore <will> be)—doesn't absolve anyone from responsibility to honor the posting guidelines.

Furthermore, (last time I checked, which was a few seconds ago) there is clearly content originated by <you> in your profile that violates posting guidelines—specifically, personal attacks. Also, there has been <repeated> disclosure of others' personal information—again, originated by <you>. There are even apparent threats to do so again.

Suffice it to say that Admin is confident in their conclusion regarding guideline violations in several user's profiles, and these violations will be addressed. It's too bad that some users are content to gratuitously waste Admin time tilting at windmills, while there may very well be more serious violators to be dealt with.

<To any member to which this issue applies>: Please remove all content from your profiles which violates posting guidelines—regardless of its origin. Profiles may not be used to conduct personal attacks against other members.

Admin has been very clear that content which unambiguously violates posting guidelines will be removed—including in member profiles—and quoting someone else's violations will not prevent such action.

Sargon: <zanzibar: (To expound a little...) Even if the policy is to have anonymous moderators given complete subjective authority - the <CG> admins should at least provide public notice of the new policies here.>

There <will> be public notice of any and all new policies, and nobody has done any "subjective" Moderation. Enforcing posting guidelines which have existed for over a decade is hardly "subjective" enforcement, and being overly permissive with respect to such things has <never> been formal policy—and there are literally thousands of examples of non-permissive Moderator action in the history books. Any appearance of selectivity probably had more to do with Dan's workload than anything else, and the same situation still prevails.

Susan Freeman: For now, the posting guidelines remain as always, as Sargon indicated.

  jessicafischerqueen:

<chessgames.com>

I am trying to update the archive listing for my games collection here: Game Collection: Vladimirs Petrovs Tournaments/Matches 1923-1942

And this is the result from the <Internet Archive> when I tried to do so:

https://web.archive.org/web/2018101....

I am a registered member, so this is puzzling. I was able to archive snapshots of this games collection recently without any problem.

Could this be a bug of some kind in the <chessgames.com > coding?

I was able to load the current snap shot of my chessforum into the <Internet Archive> here: https://web.archive.org/web/2018101...

Therefore, I think this might be some kind of bug having to do with "games collections"?

If you can shed light on this mystery I would appreciate it very much.

Annie K.: <Jess> check the url you were trying to archive. If it's a private one, the WB won't be able to access it. Only feed it public urls. :)
Oct-19-18  Nisjesram: So far <sargon> is walking the talk (both about posting games and making atomosphere civil), and i am happy for that.

Respect to <sargon>.

.

Oct-19-18  Nisjesram: <diceman: <Dr Winston OBoogie: there's some real pathetic cowards on this site, can't bully anyone in the real world (not that that's a good thing!) so they gang up against someone online.>

Don't make this forum your crying towel, take it somewhere else.

Even Nizzle gets it:

<Nisjesram:

So, now if i feel like responding to some contentious post here , i respond in <rogoff> forum. I did that two , three times.>

Though he needed a lil shove:

<<susan freeman> asked me indirectly/politely not to pollute this forum with fights/debates.>>

I am replying in <rogoff> forum.

  jessicafischerqueen:

<Annie> Genius!! Thank you so much. You have solved the mystery.

Possibly you can do such things so readily because of a steady diet of <Agatha Christie> novels?

Oct-19-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: <Furthermore, (last time I checked, which was a few seconds ago) there is clearly content originated by <you> in your profile that violates posting guidelines—specifically, personal attacks.>

Please point out which content originated by <me> and I'll <<<gladly>>> remove it? :)

<Also, there has been <repeated> disclosure of others' personal information—again, originated by <you>. There are even apparent threats to do so again>

Threats? Where?? Repeated disclosure of personal information you say? Okay - I didn't want to do this to <you> of all people, especially after Daniel's passing but I'm going to send you s--t that will make you give your head a shake and reevaluate what you just said. I just read you support Trump too...with all due respect Sir how <dumb> are you?!

I won't change my bio <under any circumstances> apart from my own posts (which I don't see right now - but I'll take your word for it so point em out?)

Now what, buddy?

PS..

<Sargon: <Nisjesram: <john barleycorn> is banned , says his bio/profile.> Well he's <not> banned any longer. The suspension must have been temporary. I wouldn't know—I'm not doing much moderation nowadays, because there are even MORE important things to work on...>

Like my bio? Like letting the <CEO of Chessgames dot com> kibitz amongst us whilst telling people she doesn't like/know/get along with, make CEO decisions with "blue collar workers" like alllllllll of us?

Like you making the decision that john barleycorn calling you a Nazi is suddenly <your decision> until.... today when you've got more important things to do!? That man's a friend of mine and he's a good man.

You should have just typed.. "Keyser Soze has been crying sooooooo much because his <own words> embarrass him BIGLY he's pestered me to mention this <publicly> to you".

No. I won't change a word of his in my bio, I'll be adding to it, although I will change my own words so point em out cowboy :)

Oct-19-18  sonia91: <Sargon> Thanks, glad to see that someone in the cg.com staff cares to update the database. Now that Russian Superfinals have been added, can anyone create a forum (chessgames.com chessforum) also for Hainan Danzhou (covered by cg.com since its inception in 2010: Tournament Index search: "danzhou") and World Junior Championships (open and girls), please? These are other two important yearly tournaments that took place between Biel and the Olympiads that deserve a forum.
Oct-19-18  thegoodanarchist: < Z truth: Not surprised to see <tga> still defeating <thegoodneega> account - which was racist from its very conception.>

How was it racist? Why are you unable to make a case using quotes from that user account?

Look, it's obvious from your behavior that you want to set yourself up as arbiter of right and wrong. You are very Stalinist in that regard, as I've maintained for some time now.

By avoiding my questions, you may be able to fool those who aren't paying attention, but you aren't fooling me. You're a Neo-Bolshevik through and through. Authoritarian and intolerant.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but things are not racist just because you say so.

It's clear you cannot make a case, so what is your intention? To continue the same tack of arguing by "<zanzibar> fiat"? Do you realize how repugnant that behavior is?

Oct-19-18  thegoodanarchist: Anyway, <zanzibar>, I've schooled you enough.

It's obvious you don't have the reasoning skills to meet my queries.

I should have judged you more harshly by your dismal failure with the nuclear physics of Godzilla. But that's an esoteric field so I gave you benefit of the doubt.

No need to do so anymore. I don't kick puppies, so I will grant you a respite now.

Oct-19-18  zanzibar: <Susan>, <Sargon>, <rogge> and <The Alchemist> - please accept my apologies, as I was confused over who actually was moderating the <<CG> Memorable Quotes> forum.

I mistakenly assumed it was done by <CG>, likely due to the imprimatur of <CG> in the title.

Obviously that was wrong, as it's explicitly spelled out in the heading of the forum (which, just as obviously, I didn't read, jumping instead directly to posts. OK, maybe I read it and forgot it, so long, long ago).

Oct-19-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: Lol. Sargon you joker you 😂. I just reread this...

<<To any member to which this issue applies>: Please remove all content from your profiles which violates posting guidelines—regardless of its origin. Profiles may not be used to conduct personal attacks against other members.>>

So if someone attacks you personally and breaks the rules, then the person who was attacked and quotes the attack !?) from the attacker - is the <real rule breaker?>.

It just reminded me of a Dad's Army scene. "Don't tell him Pike!". https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/t...

Oct-20-18  Boomie: <What will he be having for lunch?>

I'm guessing squid l'orange generously garnished with squab medallions.

Those TV food shows have gone to my head, I'm afraid.

Good call <Tim>, squab season is fast upon us.

Oct-20-18  morfishine: FWIW: I completely agree with <CG amdin> decision regarding bios. Bios should not be used a a "pseudo loophole" for posting whatever the member wants.

What part of "personal attacks" don't people understand?

I get it, I guess some don't

Richard Taylor: Well re politic and being politic, take a leaf out of New Zealand's Prime Minister, a woman, Jacinda Adern, who negotiates the corridors of power, child in hand, and has, so far avoided getting crazy tweets and so on from Trump...Is this "crawling"? Yes there are criticisms from many here who see the continuing military cooperation with the US as wrong. But the methods: the diplomacy and on other issues such as the affirmation of women and racial equality etc she is working well -- given the (even in NZ) -- often very vituperative atmosphere in politics: the power play and so on. And Adern is to be admired for her diplomatic skills if not for having a child while in office, or being a young woman as well as being very astute and quite humane. Something like that...

Daniel in his dealing with me (not much) seemed not the kind of bigot - often ill-educated and naive or they are simply inherently right wing who often was a supporter or Trump*: except that there were many who saw the hypocrises of the Democrats so it is not as simple as this ): he didn't act in that way. The difference is that there was overall more integrity. This is something one feels in dealing with people rather than is something subject to analysis. Thus the equivalent more or less, in NZ, Bill English, who lost the election last year, was someone I also has some respect for.

A moderator, one hopes, can be of whatever political persuasion but keep some independent integrity.

This is something one hopes for. None of these things are ever clear, referees are always either going wrong or not and they cop a lot regardless.

*I don't mean at all that all who voted for Trump were of that somewhat simplistic description were those who voted as voting and the rationale etc of political decisions and voting are always complex.

Richard Taylor: By the way Dr O'Boogie mentioned 'Dad's Army' en passant. Classic program like many in Britain and the US (and other) in those good old days...
Oct-21-18  JimNorCal: I'm looking for Isle of Man coverage too.
I played in it once. Wonderful memories, beautiful place!
