Oct-22-18  SugarDom: Parisattack is basically saying, if you don’t make chessgames to suit my taste, I’m not gonna renew my premmie. “You got to protect my young sweet innocent ass from the uncivility of the internet.” Kenneth Rogoff is probably the only thing keeping the site alive. It generates 10x the traffic that would have been lose otherwise. Many members who post there have premium memberships. And it’s handy because of the volume of kibitz you have to search. KR page very nearly reflect the real divide of the world. It’s the reality.

Please don’t be selfish and hostage chessgames to your whims. It’s not possible for chessgames to please everyone.

Oct-22-18  zanzibar: Clearly, if some individuals still don't appreciate why the <thegoodneega> handle is racist, <CG> still has a problem.

But let's put that aside, and adopt a wider perspective, where we have to admit that <CG> also has a problem going beyond just trollish behavior. This is simply because lots of well-meaning people often make posts with very little actual info.

Thus, the S/N can be rather low, even without troll posts, when looking for good information on <CG>. The bios and intros are often informative, but the real gems often lie buried in the comment sections.

Now, in general, the volume of any thread (player/tournament/opening) is low enough that one can always read from the start to finish in not too much time. But that's certainly not always the case.

E.g. consider the problem of finding truly informative posts here:

Robert James Fischer

There are 77 pages to read over - but certainly only a much smaller fraction if condensed to "useful" posts.

Or this guy:

Wesley So

Who has 875 pages.

The problem goes beyond the dilution of Rogoff... it really lies in all the high volume <CG> threads.

Consider how stale all the <Live Game> comments become soon after the game concludes.

(I've always wished <CG> injected the moves into the comment stream in order to make the live game comments' context more clear, anyways.)

My solution is to allow Biographers to upvote comments, and be able to filter select just those comments.

Tabanus: Why not copy over the Rogoff kibitzing (except the first two pages) to a Politics forum. Then it won't be lost. And Stumpers' kibitzing to a Math or Stats (or whatever) forum. CG should take a stand: do the non chess topics have a (major) place on this site, or do they not.
Oct-23-18  FICSwoodpusher: <parisattack> Would you mind providing me with the details of this other chess forum?

Richard Taylor: Dr O'Boogie I recall when that was on here. I for some reason never got to watch it. I watched a few episodes. Friends liked it a lot. My son likes Mr. Bean. I like the: "Are you gay." sketch and so on...I see Diceman is having a spassy...

Richard Taylor: And include any crap I said on there as I talked a lot of it. It is a nightmare on there so I avoid it... We don't need it. I agree with Paris Attack... This IS a chess site...

Tabanus: <Or this guy: Wesley So Who has 875 pages.>

He has 7419 pages. Click on Archive [On] and you'll see. Fischer has 2111 pages. <z> may be aware, but many are not aware of this. Rogoff: 11174 pages!

Tabanus: CG has an option called <Child-safe mode (aka "Quiet Mode")> I tried it, but then cannot see the live page and the Bistro.

What about an <Adult mode>? Not sure what should be in it :)

Oct-23-18  Keyser Soze: <My solution is to allow Biographers to upvote comments, and be able to filter select just those comments.>

Filter in what basis? Ridiculous.

Oct-23-18  Appaz: Rogoff can safely be cleaned, there are nothing of value there, except maybe for some historical revisionists.

People make enemies there in a way simply not possible over a topic like chess and the conflicts spill over to regular pages and into bios.

Some people are driven away by this and it tarnishes the reputation of cg.com itself.

The level of the discussion, with its name calling, ad hominems and worse, just give me bad associations when I hear the name "Rogoff". The man deserves better.

Oct-23-18  Appaz: Daniel dies, and people will use his name in all sorts of ways.

I couldn´t have put it better.

Spot on <Appaz>.

Oct-23-18  SugarDom: Yeah, I think we should give it a try. Chessgames To close the Rogoff page, let’s say for a month.

Let’s see what happens. Why not?

This has been addressed before: <chessgames.com: There are literally millions of pages on this site where you can conduct discussion. It seems that two of them are the cause of 99% of the complaints. May I kindly suggest that if those pages bother you, you simply stay away from them.> chessgames.com chessforum

Oct-23-18  SugarDom: Yeah right, we have to protect these people’s young sweet innocent asses from the uncivility of the internet so they can enjoy their hardcore porn and violence internet browsing afterwards.

Chessgames got to learn to be sensitive and politically correct you know, given the number of decent and honorable members of this site.

Oct-23-18  thegoodanarchist: <offramp: <chessgames.com> I really think the Daily Puzzle could be done by someone else.

I think you should give access rights to some other cg members. Not me because I would go nuts...>

You mean to tell me you're not nuts already?!?!

Then why in blazes do I have you on my favorites list??

What a disappointment...

Oct-23-18  thegoodanarchist: < Richard Taylor: Delete all the crap on Roggoff.>

How about deleting all the crap where you celebrated the 9/11 attacks? Where you talked about how good it made you feel, to watch the murder of thousands of Americans? What do you think about deleting that?

Yes you can delete that, as long as you take all Fischer's games off the site and any reference to Robert Fischer...

Or you could leave nothing on the site except my celebration of 9/11 and the games and everything by and about Robert J Fischer...

Oct-24-18  whiteshark: <chessgames.com>

It seems that ALL games after Dortmund (2018) have not been indexed so that you only get the <Sorry, this game is not yet indexed for the Similar Games feature. Please try again later.> message.

e.g. Games Like M Lubbe vs G Meier, 2018 chesslike.pl?gid=...

Oct-24-18  zanzibar: <Tab> thanks for correcting the <Rogoff, So> page counts with the proper numbers.

I thought they were low, and even opened a different browser to check, but forgot about the archiving feature.

Might be nice if CG displayed both counts... if possible.

(And if not, maybe color coded the totals to indicate a truncated result)
