Dec-28-22
 | | MissScarlett: The reason for the different number of rounds is that the Open section is 13 rounds, against 11 for the Women. |
|
Dec-28-22 | | Messiah: Is the truth painful? :-/ |
|
Dec-29-22
 | | MissScarlett: <Has CG's decision to ban a user who threatened (and attempted?) to damage the site changed?> This needs to be decided at the highest echelon of the company. The McDonald boys are just a couple of tech bros. <Miss Susan>, can we arrange a date? |
|
Dec-29-22
 | | Susan Freeman: is this an ultimatum?
Or are you suggesting an actual date at a pub? lol i am having a conference in the future, but this is a very hectic season right now. |
|
Dec-29-22
 | | Susan Freeman: btw, he is already baack. |
|
Dec-29-22
 | | MissScarlett: I don't do ultimatums. Look what happened to <AnnieK>. We'll convene our board meeting in the New Year. |

The McDonald boys are just a couple of tech bros.> Perhaps Susan can answer - it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. <Susan Freeman: btw, he is already baack.> Everybody knows he's back (in at least two guises), hence the question. |
|
Dec-29-22 | | stone free or die: <<Susan> btw, he is already baack.> With or without your approval?
(Just in case you think you've already answered <Willber G>'s question) |

 | | Susan Freeman: let's just say, he is back on probation.
already, might I add, making demands of me on the side. I don't do demands or ultimata.
This is not a political decision. In fact, I tend to agree with most of his comments. I aim for a polite and respectful discussion, and certainly I am not into a threat to the very platform posting the remarks.
We call it shooting yourself in the foot, here in the South To be continued............ |

Dec-29-22 | | Messiah: By the way: ChessGames.com Statistics Page here it is stated that <Which pages on chessgames.com have the most kibitzing? 0 (479,878)>
And that leads to [bad player ID], that may be the old Rogoff. |

 | | Susan Freeman: >Wilbur> that was my point exactly
The method |
|
Dec-29-22
 | | MissScarlett: <Please sell the site <Susan>. Name your price. (I fear it already too late)>
The world could ill-afford to lose both Twitter and <cg>. But the price is the same - $44 billion. |
|
Dec-29-22 | | Messiah: Here: Opening Explorer it shows <RECENT: Jean Marc Hebrard vs W E Napier, 2000 (1-0)>, but that game ID is invalid: [bad chessgames.com link]. |

Dec-30-22
 | | Check It Out: <Susan Freeman: let's just say, he is back on probation.> I see my post got scrubbed. So, is the guy on probation in the sense that he is allowed to post as long as he plays nice? |
|
Dec-30-22
 | | Susan Freeman: not now |

Dec-30-22
 | | OhioChessFan: I realize it might not be front burner, but a few suggestions for the Opening Explorer: 1. Mentioned before, but it would be great to be able to create a named link to any position in the OE to put in one's profile. 2. The evals are ridiculous. They routinely jump up and down as much as .30 per ply. 3. The evals analysis depth range from 21 to 42, at least that I've seen and I suspect may range even more, which renders them pretty useless. 3. Some sites, chess.com among them, don't allow using opening books that show an eval. You should be able to set a preference to turn them off, and leave them off instead of unwillingly sort of violating the spirit of the rules of other chess playing sites. |

 | | MissScarlett: <Mentioned before, but it would be great to be able to create a named link to any position in the OE to put in one's profile.> Named link? Give an example.
<2. The evals are ridiculous. They routinely jump up and down as much as .30 per ply.3. The evals analysis depth range from 21 to 42, at least that I've seen and I suspect may range even more, which renders them pretty useless.> Surely this is the same issue.
<Some sites, chess.com among them, don't allow using opening books that show an eval.> I don't get it. Are you talking about playing games on chess.com whilst consulting the OE? |
|

 | | OhioChessFan: <OCF: Mentioned before, but it would be great to be able to create a named link to any position in the OE to put in one's profile.> <Missy: Named link? Give an example.> Opening Explorer Being able, right then and there, to name it "MissScarlettWhiteToMove3". I could drop a number of such links in my profile or own forum kibitzing and in a fell swoop be able to click to any point of any current game. What a great convenience when playing multiple games. <OCF: 2. The evals are ridiculous. They routinely jump up and down as much as .30 per ply.3. The evals analysis depth range from 21 to 42, at least that I've seen and I suspect may range even more, which renders them pretty useless.> <Missy: Surely this is the same issue.> I don't think so. I can show examples of consecutive plies at the same depth with huge eval changes. <OCF: Some sites, chess.com among them, don't allow using opening books that show an eval.> <Missy: I don't get it. Are you talking about playing games on chess.com whilst consulting the OE?> Yes. |
|
Dec-30-22
 | | MissScarlett: <Being able, right then and there, to name it "MissScarlettWhiteToMove3".> Akin to a hyperlink in html.
< I can show examples of consecutive plies at the same depth with huge eval changes.> This store of evaluations is based on prior searches: <Sorry, this position has already been analyzed to a depth of 22 ply (60 seconds). Try a longer analysis to improve upon our knowledgebase.> <Yes.>
So chess.com think it ethical to consult an openings DB during play for educational purposes but not to gain a competitive advantage. |

Yes. <OCF: I can show examples of consecutive plies at the same depth with huge eval changes.> <Missy: This store of evaluations is based on prior searches: Sorry, this position has already been analyzed to a depth of 22 ply (60 seconds). Try a longer analysis to improve upon our knowledgebase.> No. I'll share a few examples next time I find them. <Missy: So chess.com think it ethical to consult an openings DB during play for educational purposes but not to gain a competitive advantage.> I can't find the specific rule, but it's always been my understanding you can use a DB without an eval attached. |
|
Dec-30-22
 | | OhioChessFan: Here's the rule from Chess.com:
<Opening databases - You may look at opening databases, or game records to find a good move. You may NOT use any of these that also use an engine to evaluate the best moves! > |
