Dec-30-22  stone free or die: <<Missy> Surely this is the same issue.>

As <OCF> also notes, not necessarily. If you're playing an opening at too low a depth that 1-ply extra can really alter the eval.

Really, any unclear position.

What's a good depth? If you're <AlyerKupp> it's (40+)-ply.

Dec-31-22  stone free or die: Can we please implement an ignore feature for searching collections?

Even collection pages can get overloaded, if you know what I mean.

.

Dec-31-22  stone free or die: Also, please look at the missing pieces in the comments of this game:

To make the image appear:
- Click on the image to enlarge it.
- Once enlarged, copy the fen number that appears under the board.
- Kibitz the fen number, do not post, just preview kibitz.
- Then go back to the page and the image should appear.

Or just give me the link and I'll get it fixed

Check It Out: CG, you are missing some crucial games at the 2022 open world blitz championship. Any idea when they'll show up?
Jan-01-23  Messiah: <CheckĀ ItĀ Out: CG, you are missing some crucial games at the 2022 open world blitz championship. Any idea when they'll show up?>

There is an even more serious problem: some of the game scores from the rapid and the blitz section are almost certainly malformed, most probably because the board sensors going dysfunctional during the game. I see no chance to correct'em reliably and verifiably.

I've uploaded a couple of games I saw were missing, I will be going through it some more. If you notice any I've missed please just let me know

Jan-02-23  stone free or die: <petemcd85> Load the <CG> tournament games into SCID, then have it produce an x-tab.

You can then compare the standings from the xtab with any officially published standing table (or xtab) to see which player is missing games.

The xtab allows you to quickly identify what games are missing, assuming you have the round info right.

It's always nice to know there's a workaround.

But they're not ideal, nor are catch-as-catch-can fixes which is also suggested.

My suggestion is as follows:

Preamble: It seems the diagram fix overlooked a few examples. Let's assume that other examples exists.

1. Identify the cause problem, and find an algorithm that can be used to flush such a problem out on other pages.

2. Determine an automate fix to all such diagrams identified in a thread.

3. Run a find-and-fix filter on the entire db, that automatically does the job.

It's low priority - but it seems to me to be more "professional" for <CG> to fix its own known problem than to rely on ad-hoc fixes/finds from the community.

Agreed?

.

Jan-03-23  stone free or die: A couple of FEN questions for positions in games:

1. Can a button be added to the Olga toolbar to get a link to a position in the game (via &move=## nomenclature)?

We already have the FEN copy, we just need the link copy as well.

2. Can the links to a position in a game (i.e. those with the &move notation) show the move in the link text, and not just the game.

I've asked for #2 before, it's like have a link to a specific kibitzing post show the kibitz number, which we do.

Jan-03-23  stone free or die: Hey, I just had a <genius idea>™!

Could <CG> please add a <Source Icon> to games in its gamelist?

There's already icons for photos, annotations(?), and comments. It's a pain to have to display the PGN to see if a game has a source tag or not.

.

Jan-04-23  stone free or die: As pointed out elsewhere -

I'm mistaken in using the <&move=##> query string for the url. It should be <&m=##> in all of the above.

But I think the mistake is obvious enough that most people already did so.

Re diagrams not displaying:

At first it seemed logical to just fix it manually when we notice(it doesn't seem to happen often and doesn't take long to fix), though, I do agree we should be more "professional".
Please send us a link next time you notice the issue.
I believe the best way to resolve this issue is to:
- Create a client-side script to ensure all diagrams are being displayed
- If not, send a request to create the diagram
- After server sends back a successful response, display the diagram

<1. Can a button be added to the Olga toolbar to get a link to a position in the game (via &m=## nomenclature)?>

<2. Can the links to a position in a game (i.e. those with the &move notation) show the move in the link text, and not just the game.>

<3. Could <CG> please add a <Source Icon> to games in its gamelist?>

I will ask <pete> to add these to the 'Enhancements' list.

Please accept the parameters.
Thank you.
PS I have received the same limits myself.
It is really not a big deal. Just a slow down speed marker on the internet highway.

Jan-05-23  SChesshevsky: Not sure what, if anything, changed. But noticed today that when I searched for chessgames in both Bing and Yahoo, chessgames.com did not show at all.

Chess.com's database link showed prominently. Figuring if this situation continues, the chance for gaining new customers would be greatly diminished.

Jan-05-23  stone free or die: <lostemperor> - sorry to butt in, but I think you can do this yourself in your profile page via one of its options.

If this is incorrect sorry, as <CG> is the final word. But, if correct, it might save you a little time.

Cheers.

Jan-06-23  stone free or die: <pete> - quick question, but does a forum activation require admin intervention?

(I'm wondering if info I provided is correct - I thought it was from personal experience, once-upon-a-time)
