 | | OhioChessFan: From the Database Statistics page, this is a bit ugly: Years covered: 0 to 2023 (2024 years)
Seems like it used to say "1475" to whatever year, which looks much nicer. Not a big deal, but that's pointlessly hard on the eyes. |

Jan-14-23 | | waddayaplay: <chessgames.com> I haven't been using chessgames.com for 10 years now, but I wanted to start playing again and remembered the opening explorer here. Unfortunately, it seems like it has been getting worse since then. When I have flipped the board , because I play black, it randomly flips it back. This is very annoying. I see it is in the petemcd85 bug report on his profile page <- Opening Explorer keeps reverting to white pieces when analyzing black pieces>
Has this been going on for a long time? Will it be fixed? Can I help you out by showing you positions it happens in? |

I need to try and recreate the problem to see whats going on. Thanks and I apologize for the inconvenience. |
|
Jan-14-23 | | waddayaplay: <petemcd85>
It happens in the same positions and I tried it in two webbrowsers.
E.g. Opening Explorer
it should be a black board now? no matter what move you make as white, the board will flip.
and move forward a move
Opening Explorer
Same thing again. Press any move for white and the board flips.I can give other positions too. |

Jan-17-23 | | Teyss: Hello,
Just noticed my post was deleted from Short vs Kasparov, 1993. I understand why, especially since the post I was replying to was also removed, but in the future I would appreciate if there was a heads-up on deleted contributions e.g. by mail or on the profile page. It's not only about politeness, it also helps users to know where to draw the line.Generally speaking, there should be more clarity on posting rules (so far there are just very general guidelines which can be interpreted one way or another), potential deletions and bans. Another idea could be CG orange/red tags on problematic posts. Have a nice day. |

 | | petemcd85: <Teyss: in the future I would appreciate if there was a heads-up on deleted contributions e.g. by mail or on the profile page. > Hello Teyss, we usually notify users of their post being deleted if they are being placed on probation. If you feel the deletion was unjustified please let us know and we will look into why the post was deleted. In your case it wasn't that serious, just please refrain from posting political views on our game pages. Thanks! |

Jan-18-23 | | Honest Adin Reviews: susan, after how many pages you change to new page start? i want to go back to archives, 2002, when my friend posted, bring back his ideas, how to do i?t |
|
Jan-18-23 | | Teyss: <petemcd85> Thanks for the answer. As said, I don't feel the deletion was unjustified, just that a heads-up would have been appropriate. A simple solution could be to keep the deleted post in the kibitz list of the profile page with a "Removed" tag. <just please refrain from posting political views on our game pages> You should say this to other users, because honestly I never do so. Here I just answered <once> to a user who repeatedly posted fake news and heinous opinions. For memo if he goes on I will answer again, at least this results in his post also being deleted. Which leads to the second part of my post which is actually more important than this minor issue: posting rules, potential deletions and bans, in short transparency as <saffuna> points out. Granted, not easy to solve. |
|
Jan-18-23 | | Teyss: PS: to be complete, I hesitated to blow the whistle on that user's posts instead of answering. But in your guidelines there is nothing against fake news or political opinions, heinous or not. Maybe calling for a coup is "in violation of United States law", not sure. |

 | | MissScarlett: How regularly does the Opening Explorer indexing/updating take place? |
|
Jan-18-23
 | | stevemcd87: Current tasks:
- <Upgraded Player Page>:
This upgrade will remove the need for the automated scripts meant to keep player pages up-to-date.
We will also be utilizing jQuery DataTables( https://datatables.net/ ) for easy table filtering(
enhancement request: "Jump to page #" chessgames.com chessforum ).
Should be done soon
- <Upgraded Opening Explorer Page>:
This upgrade will reanalyze the entire database vs just analyzing the newly uploaded games. Our goal is to have the Explorer updated daily(or instantly🤞) after new game uploads or edits. <MissScarlett: How regularly does the Opening Explorer indexing/updating take place?>
There wasn't any set schedule for Explorer updates before now. I would like to get the Zipfile Archive automated next |

 | | MissScarlett: Interesting that the OE disregards move repetitions. |
|
Jan-19-23
 | | OhioChessFan: I've noticed that too but haven't come up with a good idea how to negotiate it. Maybe an if/then whereby the OE first searches to see if the same position exists on a different/higher move number. But that would bring transpositions into the equation also. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would be another complication. |
|
Jan-19-23 | | Honest Adin Reviews: susan, you need to archive kibitzer's cafe by year, so its easy access! |

Jan-19-23 | | stone free or die: <<steve> We will also be utilizing jQuery DataTables( https://datatables.net/ ) for easy table filtering( enhancement request: "Jump to page #" chessgames.com chessforum ).> I'm not sure I understand this - could you perhaps rephrase or elaborate what it's about please? Also - could you add the <&m=##[.5]> notation for game links that point inside a game? It must be fairly easy to just put the info from the url into the text shown for the link - and I think it useful enough to be bumped onto the priority list. |

 | | MissScarlett: <Miss Susan>, with the news that Donald Trump is reportedly due to return to Twitter, wouldn't this this be an appropriate time to lift the ban on <George Wallace>? Assuming, of course, that he wishes to return. |

 | | Susan Freeman: <Miss> we are working on enhanced security before we allow him back.
Almost there.
Yes, he is itching to return. I get private emails all the time.
He also wants a public apology. Now that's pushing it too far. |

 | | Stonehenge: Can we get an ETA on his return? I'm planning to quit the moment he returns. |
