cu8sfan: <yoozum> It was the Russian Championship Superfinal (2005) that took place in late 2005/early 2006.

cu8sfan: Solution to yesterday's Linares stat quiz:

<a) Which game had the most predictions for a white win?> Round 4, Topalov-Radjabov (44 predictions for a white win). A close second was round 6, Topalov-Vallejo(43), followed by round 2, Topalov-Bacrot (42).

Correct answer first given by <Jafar219>.

<b) Which game had the most predictions for a draw?> Round 3, Svidler-Leko (42), followed by round 4, Leko-Ivanchuk (41) and round 6, Aronian-Leko (40).

No one got this answer right though <yalie> and <cade> came very close. Round 10, Leko-Svidler had 36 predictions for a draw.

<c) Which game had the most predictions for a black win?> Round 14, Vallejo-Topalov (31), followed by round 9, Bacrot-Topalov (29).

Correct answer first given by <yalie>.

Mar-16-06  YouRang: It shows how tough this tournament was to predict:

The game that had the most predictions for a white win was Topalov-Radjabov. --- WRONG, Radjabov won!

The game with the 2nd most predictions for a white win was Topalov-Vallejo. --- WRONG, Vallejo won!

The game with the 3rd most predictions for a white win was Topalov-Bacrot. --- WRONG, it was a draw.

The game with the 4th most predictions for a white win was Topalov-Ivanchuk. --- WRONG, it was a draw.

In all, I counted 12 games where the consensus prediction was for white to win, and we were right just 4 times.

Mar-16-06  cade: Maybe you noticed the trend there of everyone picking Topalov to win. His poor performance in the first half of Linares really destroyed alot of peoples predictions.

cu8sfan: <YouRang> Very interesting. So we all blame Topalov on our bad performance. I've taken a look at the whole contest without Topalov's games:

Tournament | Percentage of points scored

Wijk aan Zee | 0.498
Linares | 0.436
Linares, 1st half | 0.389
Linares, 2nd half | 0.489

Linares without Topalov | 0.465
Linares without Topalov, 1st half | 0.432
Linares without Topalov, 2nd half | 0.502

lostemperor: I put this on YouRang's forum. A tip for the next predictioncontest. Is Topalov going to beat Svidler in Sofia? Ask guru Joe http://www.goriya.com/flash/askguru... :)
Mar-26-06  Bobak Zahmat: <lostemperor> Funny thing that guru Joe. I asked some questions and got interesting answers:

Was Kramnik ill? <guru Joe><without a doubt>:)

Mar-26-06  Bobak Zahmat: Will Topalov beat Aronian in MTel? <guru Joe> Absolutely NOT! :)
