May-22-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <The Brazilian team arrived today. They have their training camp in Switzerland too.>

<cu8sfan> Really? That's cool. Hey, I believe you mentioned something about Brazil playing a local team and that it would be on many TV-stations. Do you know if it's also broadcast on Internet? It would be great if I could watch it too.

By the way, do you have any why Switzerland is so attractive for many teams to prepare for the World Cup and why not e.g. Austria or any other country neighboring Germany?

<By the way, do you have any why Switzerland is so attractive for many teams to prepare for the World Cup and why not e.g. Austria or any other country neighboring Germany?> I'm sure many teams are also in Austria, France, Czech Republic or any other neighboring country. After all, there are 32 teams and I know of only 4 teams that are in Switzerland. There's still room for more. (-:

Congratulations to Topalov -- winning his last 4 games to win the tournament by 1/2 game over Kamsky. And congratulations to Kamsky for (apparently) making a remarkable career chess comeback. He was picked by most to finish at or near the bottom, and he came close to winning the tournament.

Congratulations to <yalie>! He was first to enter his predictions (all of them at once), and they turned out to be the best.

May-22-06  YouRang: For anyone interested: I have posted the <Final Alternate Scoring System> contest results in my forum: User: YouRang. There are five alternate scoring systems.
May-22-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> I have just found out that the Dutch team is staying in the extremely luxury hotel "Beau-Rivage". Do you know it?

http://www.brp.ch

It looks like our footballers picked a nice hotel, and they're not really bothering about the price....300 Euro per night per person for the cheapest rooms in the hotel!

May-22-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> And Brazil is staying in the "Park Hotel Weggis":

http://www.phw.ch

Looks very nice too!

May-23-06  Bobak Zahmat: <EmperorAtahualpa><It looks like our footballers picked a nice hotel, and they're not really bothering about the price....300 Euro per night per person for the cheapest rooms in the hotel!> It's not like are going to pay it themselfves! Every Dutchmen pays it, by taxes for example :)!!!
May-23-06  Bobak Zahmat: <YouRang> Thanks for your great stats! I'm glad to see my own name mentioned a few times. Especially for <BIGGEST PAYOFF GAMES (fewest correct predictions): $17.00,Anand-Topalov[0-1]

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

May-23-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <It's not like are going to pay it themselfves! Every Dutchmen pays it, by taxes for example :)!!!>

<Bobak Zahmat> That's exactly what I was hinting at. :) For our tax money, they might have chosen a somewhat cheaper hotel!

cu8sfan: These teams are in Switzerland to get ready for the Championship:

Brazil, Netherlands, Iran, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Argentina, Tunesia, Germany and of course Switzerland.

If you speak German watch this excerpt from the Swiss News: http://www.sf.tv/var/videoplayer.ph...

May-24-06  yalie: I dont think the Dutch football team pays the same rate as all of us. I am sure the Hotel will be giving them a huge discount. Also with so much Dutch pride at stake, you dont want the players being worried about some trivial thing at a cheaper hotel. As such, I dont think most Dutch citizens begrudge the players this luxury.
May-25-06  YouRang: <cu8sfan> I'm a little slow -- I just noticed that you're not planning to run a prediction contest for Dortmund (in favor of the Biel tournament).

I was thinking that if you don't have any objections, and if I'm around at the time (I think it's 29Jul-6Aug), and enough people are interested... I could run a contest for Dortmund in my forum.

I'm a little worried about people getting confused between the two tournaments. Still, it's hard to not have a contest when players like Kramnik, Leko, Adams, Aronian, and Svidler are involved.

May-25-06  suenteus po 147: <YouRang> That's a great idea! I will be there to support your contest!

  cu8sfan: I'm back, what did I miss?

<YouRang> I can hardly tell anybody what to put on their personal fora. As long as you don't interfere with my contest (i.e. Biel 2006) I'm fine with it. But I won't count your contest for the trophy.

May-31-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> Did you see the Switzerland-Italy match? And if so, how was it?

You guys drew 1-1!!

cu8sfan: <EmperorAtahualpa> I posted a short statement about the game in the WannaBe chessforum. Switzerland had a very strong first half but only got a draw out of it. That's typical for the Swiss national team:

Opponent: 2 chances to score, 1 goal
Swiss: 10 chances to score, 1 goal

In the second half they showed signs of weaknesses and - in my opinion - the Italians were unneccessarily brutal, trying to take our players out on several occasions.

Still, a strong performance and I was very pleased. Switzerland has the strongest team ever and I can't wait for the World Cup to start and find out how far this team really can go!

Jun-01-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <Opponent: 2 chances to score, 1 goal Swiss: 10 chances to score, 1 goal>

<cu8sfan> Like the Swiss, the Dutch also have the same problem with scoring goals. We need many, many chances. And strangely enough, the Italians have always been good at this! I really don't know how they do it.

Jun-03-06  suenteus po 147: <cu8sfan> How many times have you participated in the Open Section of Biel? What was your best result?

cu8sfan: I only participated once but want to go there more often. I went 4/9. This year I won't be able to attend. )-: You can read a bit about it on the 38th Biel Chess Festival (2005) page.
Jun-04-06  chessmoron: <cu8sfan> Hold off Biel Chess Festival (2006). Put XIX Torneo Magistra de Ajedrez. Players include Topalov, Anand, Vallejo-Pons, and Bruzon. It starts on June 7th and ends June 12th. Official website in English: http://www.advancedchessleon.com/in...

cu8sfan: <chessmoron> This looks like a very interesting event but I limit my tournaments to round robin events. They create more interest and more games to predict, too.
Jun-14-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> I'm just reposting my message to you here in this forum because you already said goodnight in my forum. This way I'm sure you will read it! :)

<<Actually they didn't. One of them even works in Holland.>

<cu8sfan> Oh, that's great! Well, of course it depends from person to person.

But just to show you that I'm not talking nonsense, here is a German website advertising a computer football game with the motto "Only YOU can stop The Netherlands from becoming World Champion with this computer game!"

http://www.hollandstoppen.de

These commercials were all on German TV. :)

Whenever the Netherlands play against Germany, there's always this tension between the countries. That's good by itself, as long as it doesn't turn too ugly.>
