lostemperor: I did wanted to go for the drawer.

I see <chessmoron> is last with 0 points out of 6 (how he do that, I gotta hand it to him). Somehow, that should not surprise me I suppose :-). (Btw. I had the same predictions as moron last round hehe)

May-18-06  suenteus po 147: Well, that was a bust. Even the people who I thought foolishly predicted all draws scored better than I did today. Nuts.
May-18-06  chessmoron: <lostemperor> Thanks for disgracing my predictions...i think i'm going to cry now.
May-18-06  Montreal1666: This tournament has been very unpredictable, yet I think round 7 must have been the worst!!!!!!

cu8sfan: Some interesting stats for the MTel 2006 prediction contest:

Mass predictor finished strong, going 3 for 3 in the last three rounds. He finished 4th - 9th with a score of 16.

<cu8sfan> had the most rounds with 0 points, 4.

<TIMER> and <iron maiden> had the most rounds with 3 points, 4.

Speaking of <TIMER> and <iron maiden>, in round 1, TIMER predicted a draw for Ponomariov-Kamsky while iron maiden predicted a win by Ponomariov. Apart from that prediction these two copied their predictions one by one from round 2 until the end.

Round 10 was our best round when we scored <77.8%> ((Total score in a round/Participants)/(Max. Score per Round)). Round 6 was our worst round with a score of <15.6%>. Over the whole tournament we scored <44.8%>. This compares to <49.8% for Wijk aan Zee and 43.6% for Moralia/Linares>.

And here the mandatory trivia questions:

Which pairing had the most predictions for a white win? Which pairing had the most predictions for a draw?
Which pairing had the most predictions for a black win?

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a white win?> Kamsky-Topalov.

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a draw?> Anand-Topalov, Topalov-Anand.

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a black win?> Bacrot-Anand.

cu8sfan: <WannaBe> Kamsky-Topalov is not in the top 5 for most white wins predicted. Topalov-Anand is 4th for most draws predicted. Bacrot-Anand is 3rd for most black wins predicted.

cu8sfan: <all> I've been thinking about our next tournament. The next event would be Dortmund but it coincides with the Biel Chess Festival.

In Dortmund we have:
Michael Adams
Levon Aronian
Boris Gelfand
Baadur Jobava
Vladimir Kramnik
Peter Leko
Arkadi Naiditsch
Peter Svidler

In Biel we have:
Lazaro Bruzon
Magnus Carlsen
Alexander Morozevich
Yannick Pelletier
Teimour Radjabov
Andrei Volokitin

There are good arguments for doing either of the two: + Dortmund: Kramnik vs. Leko, Aronian, more top players, more boards per round

- Dortmund: Did not provide live games last year, it's in Germany (-;

+ Biel: Carlsen, Morozevich, it's in Switzerland (-;

- Biel: Only 3 boards

I have decided to make the Biel Chess Festival the next tournament in the prediction contest. After all, we DO want to follow Magnus Carlsen and I want to boost Switzerland's popularity. And I'm still upset about the Dortmund guys not providing live games last year. I hope you'll respect my decision and will all participate again next time. Here's the official Biel page: http://www.bielchessfestival.ch/. The games start on JUL-24.

May-21-06  NakoSonorense: Congrats to yalie for winning!

Aight, lemme try this,

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a white win?> topalov-Kamsky

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a draw?> Svidler-Anand

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a black win?> Kamsky-Topalov

May-21-06  Bobak Zahmat: <cu8sfan> I totally agree with you to choose for the Biel Tournament. Moro vs Carlsen should be exiting!
May-21-06  percyblakeney: <Which pairing had the most predictions for a white win?> Topalov-Bacrot

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a draw?> Bacrot-Ponomariov

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a black win?> Bacrot-Topalov

May-21-06  percyblakeney: ...and I too prefer Biel.
May-21-06  yalie: my picks:

<Which pairing had the most predictions for a white win?> topalov-Kamsky <Which pairing had the most predictions for a draw?> Kamsky-Bacrot <Which pairing had the most predictions for a black win?> Kamsky-Anand

[The Kamsky theme in all my answers is a coincidence]

About Dortmund vs. Biel -

While I can understand Cu8sfan's pro-swiss position [although I dont think the swiss have ever taken a position on anything:)], I have to pick Dortmund over Biel. C'mon - Kramnik, Leko, Aronian, Svidler, Adams .... vs. Carlsen, Moro is not even close. So I urge cu8sfan to reconsider (of course there are many days still left - maybe Kramnik will be scratch etc.).

I had another suggestion - Let Cu8sfan run two contests. Now I can understand two daily contests at the same time will be disastrous. So I had a compromise solution which should provide some salve to wounded swiss pride :) -

Since Biel is a double RR, why not have all the entries come before the tournament starts? Then for Dortmund we can have the regular contest and Cu8sfan could provide his usual daily updates for both tournaments.

WannaBe: <cu8sfan> Yes, I had a brain f@rt. I meant to type Topalov-Kamsky for white win.
May-22-06
Premium Chessgames Member
cu8sfan: OK, we have two winners:
<NakoSonorense> was the first to guess the most black wins right: Kamsky-Topalov got 18 predictions for a black win, Bacrot-Topalov came in second with 17.

<yalie> got the most draw predictions right: Both Kamsky-Bacrot and Bacrot-Svidler had 28 predictions for a draw.

No one got the white win, though. The solution is Anand-Bacrot with 27. It was followed by Anand-Kamsky and Topalov-Bacrot who each had 25.

<yalie> Two different contests at the same time would just be too confusing. If not for you then definitely for me. But I am trying to find out if it's possible to do the Biel women contest together with the GM tournament.

May-22-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> Where in Switzerland do you live? The Dutch national football team is currently in Lausanne at a training facility. They will be there for 6 days to prepare for the World Cup.

They are training in the Juan Samaranch-stadium. Do you know it? Also, they are staying in a six stars-hotel, but I forgot the name.

cu8sfan: <EmperorAtahualpa> I live in Zurich in the North-Eastern, German speaking part of Switzerland. Lausanne is in the South-West, where they speak French. It's about a two hour train ride away from Zurich. That's the nice thing about living in a small country, everything's close. The Brazilian team arrived today. They have their training camp in Switzerland too. As have the Iranians.
