  Annie K.: Round 5

Topalov - Kamsky 1-0
Svidler - Anand 0-1
Ponomariov - Bacrot 1/2

May-15-06  me to play: <<me to play: Umm...what happened? I have been away today and all the rd 4 results are different match-ups than the pairings on which I based my predictions !??> It's very unfortunate but someone noticed that the official page had switched the pairings from round 4 and 5. I'm very sorry if you were unable to repost your predictions.> Oh well, that's ok....it's not like I had any great score going into rd 4 ! :)
May-15-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> I thought you might be interested to read the lineup of the Swiss team for the coming World Cup:

3 GOALKEEPERS: Pascal Zuberbuehler (FC Basel, Switzerland), Fabio Coltorti (Grasshoppers, Switzerland), Diego Benaglio (CD Nacional, Portugal)

8 DEFENDERS: Johan Djourou (Arsenal, England), Ludovic Magnin (VfB Stuttgart, Germany), Philippe Senderos (Arsenal, England), Stephane Grichting (Auxerre, France), Christoph Spycher (Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany), Valon Behrami (Lazio, Italy), Patrick Mueller (Olympique Lyon, France), Philipp Degen (Borussia Dortmund, Germany)

8 MIDFIELDERS: Xavier Margairaz (FC Zürich, Switzerland), Johann Vogel (AC Milan, Italy), Ricardo Cabañas (1. FC Köln, Germany), Raphael Wicky (Hamburger SV, Germany), Daniel Gygax (Lille, France), David Degen (FC Basel, Switzerland), Blerim Dzemaili (FC Zürich, Switzerland), Tranquillo Barnetta (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany)

4 FORWARDS: Alexander Frei (Stade Rennes, France), Marco Streller (1. FC Köln, Germany), Mauro Lustrinelli (Sparta Praha, Czech Republic), Johan Vonlanthen (NAC Breda, The Netherlands)

At first I thought that South Korea will beat Switzerland in the first round, but now that I see this lineup, I just might change my mind!

  cu8sfan: <EmperorAtahualpa> South Korea was strong last time around. But they were playing at home and this time, it's almost home for Switzerland. This is the strongest Swiss team in a long time and I'm sure we'll finish 1st or 2nd. As long as Zuberbuehler is NOT our goalkeeper. (-;

lostemperor: <cu8sfan> nice to know that I and <cromat> have made the same predictions. So now you know what the other is going to predict once you've seen one, hehehe. Unfortunately I (we) didn't do very well. I almost never look at what other predict when I make my predictions. When I look, it strikes me that so many different results is predicted with only three games in one round. Many has their own unique predictions. No wonder RANDOM sometimes does pretty well. It seems all random to me :)
May-15-06  YouRang: Hi <cu8sfan>. Very unfortunate that the official site swapped rounds 4 & 5 on us! I had expected that they would have made corresponding swaps for rounds 9 & 10, but they haven't (yet!).

So, the software will handle it correctly if we re-arrange rounds 4 & 5 in the control file, and rename the prediction collection text files. I hope that not too many people lost a round of predictions because of the schedule screw-up.

May-15-06  YouRang: <Individual highlights for round 3>

BEST PREDICTORS (2 for 3):
acirce, cromat, cu8sfan, hitman84, iron maiden, Joshka, kolobok, lostemperor, me to play, MrMojoRisin, percyblakeney, Robin01, sire, suenteus po 147, Tassadar, TIMER

Only 1 person went 0 for 3.

BIGGEST PAYOFF PREDICTIONS (fewest correct predictions):

$17.00,Anand-Kamsky[0-1]
Predicted by: Joshka + suenteus po 147

May-15-06  YouRang: <Individual highlights for round 5>

BEST PREDICTORS (3 for 3):
<suenteus po 147>
acirce, cromat, iron maiden, lostemperor, NakoSonorense, percyblakeney, Robin01, suenteus po 147, TIMER, WannaBe, yalie, YouRang(!)

2 people went 0 for 3.

Note: As <suenteus po 147> pointed out, my earlier post was incorrect. I didn't process reposted predictions correctly -- hence, <suenteus po 147> joins the list of those who went 3-for-3, and sadly, <sire> leaves the list. My apologies to both.

May-15-06  Chess Classics: Hey <cu8sfan>, what's happening to the Cubs? They've lost 14 out of their last 16!

cu8sfan: <having the same predictions for five rounds! Must be pretty unique> Actually, there are two other guys that have had matching predictions since round 2. Find out who it is! (-:
May-17-06  YouRang: <Round 6 prediction stat>

Overall, there were only 4 predictions for Black wins in this round (out of 93 total game predictions).

Anand-Bacrot - NOBODY picked Bacrot to win.
Kamsky-Ponomariov - 3 people picked Ponomariov.
Topalov-Svidler - 1 person picked Svidler

May-17-06  suenteus po 147: It seems that by changing my predictions for round 6 I cheated myself out of a point. That's a good lesson in never second-guessing yourself when it comes to predictions.
May-17-06  YouRang: <Individual highlights for round 6 - revised>

BEST PREDICTOR (2 for 3):
Annie K!

Yep. Only one person managed to get just 2 right. THAT's what I call a tough round!

17 people went 0 for 3. (Make that a REALLY tough round!)

BIGGEST PAYOFF GAMES (fewest correct predictions):

$32.00,Topalov-Svidler[0-1]
Predicted by: ahmadov (Jackpot!)

$6.40,Anand-Bacrot[1/2]
Predicted by: Annie K. + BishopofBlunder + Joshka + Legend + NakoSonorense

cu8sfan: In round 6 we hit a new low!

• 18 participants or 56% went 0/3.

• Only one of us had more than 1 game right.

• I myself (and three others) have gone 0/3 in three rounds.

• Mass predictor also went 0/3. Overall we have a success rate of 39.5%.

• Two guys have been copying their predictions since round 2 and counting. Find out who it is.

After Moralia/Linares I thought nothing could be worse but this tournament has been a prediction nightmare for me.

lostemperor: <YouRang> on first place! (and this wasn't even a weighted ranker:)) Man, I missed three results on just half a point :(

<cu8sfan: two guys have been copying their predictions since round 2 and counting> That's a tough question. I wonder. I haven't had time to find out though.

I go with RANDOM predictor now. One will be sure of at least one correct result. Right!?

Anand - Topalov 1-0
Bacrot - Kamsky 0-1
Ponomariov - Svidler 1/2
