  cu8sfan: -----♔----- Announcement -----♕-----

Biel International Chess Festival will start on Monday, 24-Jul at 1200 UTC. The cu8sfan prediction contest will be held for both the grandmaster tournament and the ladies tournament. Both tournaments are round robin events with 6 participants each:

GM tournament: Alexander Morozevich, Teimour Radjabov, Magnus Carlsen, Lazaro Bruzon, Andrei Volokitin, Yannick Pelletier.

Ladies tournament: Pia Cramling, Yelena Dembo, Monika Socko, Anna Muzychuk, Almira Skripchenko-Lautier, Ekaterina Polovnikova-Atalik.

I must ask all participants to participate in both events, not just one. Also, please post the predictions for each tournament in one block. You can do it in the same post, but please don't mix the tournaments.

Good luck to y'all and thanks for participating!

cu8sfan: Addendum: In the prediction trophy, Biel will count as one tournament. Points of both contest will be added up and evaluated as one.
Jul-22-06  YouRang: <percyblakeney: For Pelletier's sake I hope <YouRang> won't be too correct in his predictions :-)> LOL - I was a bit hard on Pelletier, wasn't I? :-o
Jul-22-06  percyblakeney: <I was a bit hard on Pelletier, wasn't I?> At least compared to <NakoSonorense> with his +0 -8 =2 :-)

lostemperor: <cu8sfan> I don't hope your internet broke down because of the heatwave.

cu8sfan: <lostemperor> Some problem with our provider's backbone. I don't know the cause. It's working again.

The heatwave, yes, I love summer but a cooling thunderstorm now and then wouldn't be too much to ask, would it. How's the situation at your place? Netherland it is, right? Here all the vegetables are dying and they have to move the fish 'cus the water's getting too hot. I usually prefer heat over cold, but when you're cold you put on more clothes and run around the house a couple of times. When it's hot, you just bear the heat and move like a tortoise.

lostemperor: The Netherlands is 34 celcius today. But with it's "sea climate" it's relative cool in comparison to the rest of Europe's continent and the USA. Besides I live near the sea (Scheveningen!) where there is a gentle breeze of 30 degrees :P
Jul-26-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <cu8sfan> Hey there! Nice to see you're running another competition.

Have you attended the Biel Festival already? I believe you were planning on visiting this year.

WannaBe: I've done so badly in the last 2 (or is it 3?) prediction contests (I think RANDOM beat me once...) I've decided to sit out the Biel and Dortmund.

I did post my tournament final standing in <lostemperor> forum. Maybe I'll give it another go at the next tournament.

Jul-31-06  chessmoron: <cu8sfan> Cubs got rid of Greg Maddux for Cesar Izturis from the Dodgers just today. Are they crazy?
Jul-31-06  YouRang: It's hard to say, but it might be a good deal for the Cubs: Trade the aging star while he still has some value, and in return get a good player who will contribute for a long time to come.

Perhaps Cubs have timed this trade just right. (Of course, if it turns out that Maddux still has a couple good years left, it would be a win for the Dodgers.)

cu8sfan: <chessmoron> I agree with <YouRang>. The season is over anyway. Seems like the spell of the Red and White Sox hasn't been passed on to the Cubs.
Aug-01-06  larrewl: <cu8sfan> I would not call your predictions disasterous. You're only one point from first place.

cu8sfan: <I would not call your predictions disasterous. You're only one point from first place.> Yes, but I did it with prediction almost all of the ladies pairings right. I scored about 6 points in the master tournament. That's why I only changed those predictions.
Aug-02-06  chessmoron: ♔ Alexander Morozevich ♔ is the new Biel Champion of 2006. (no matter what's the outcome of tomorrow)
Aug-02-06  Robin01: <Alexander Morozevich is the new Biel Champion of 2006.> Yes, and he deserves it. 7 wins and 2 loses with NO DRAWS!

cu8sfan: And we have a winner!!! Congratulations to <TIMER> for winning the Biel prediction contest with a score of 30 which is exactly 50% of all games played.

I will post the overall standings, some statistics and trivia bits on the weekend. Thank you all for participating!

I see that <cromat> also did very well. He has been doing very well in the Dortmund contest also.

Thanks for running the Biel contest, <cu8sfan>.

Aug-04-06  Robin01: <cu8sfan> Thanks for doing the prediction contest.
