Aug-01-07 | | YouRang: <SwitchingQuylthulg: It was me! Does that mean I'm also a traitor? ;-)> No, you have to bet against your fellow countryman who is playing in a home tournament on a national holiday, the day after he beat the tournament leader! :-) BTW, congrats on taking a big lead in Betting Ranker. (Warning: Betting Ranker is the toughest contest for hanging on to a lead!) |

Aug-02-07 | | Benzol: Congratulations to the Cubs. <cu8sfan> I know this means a great deal to you. :) |

 | | WannaBe: When we visited Wrigley Field, on 29th of June, Cubs were 22-28, 6 games under 0.500 mark. Today, Cubs are 57-49! They have won 35 games, and losing only 21. Me think, they owe me something for breaking their curse. I'll take 20% of the play-off shares. |
|
Aug-02-07 | | YouRang: <WannaBe><When we visited Wrigley Field, on 29th of June> You were there on June 29?? Wasn't that the game where Rameriz hit the walk off 2-run homer in the 9th against the brewers? Did you see that? That was the game that seemed to ignite the Cubs, and I happened to tune into it online (as I reported here: cu8sfan chessforum). Funny thing: It's the only time all year that I've tuned into an online game. At the time, I believe the Brewers were in 1st place, and the Cubs 7 games back. |

 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> Oooops!! I was there on June 26th! Not the 29th... The 26th game was the one vs. Florida Marlin, where D. Willis won the game. Sorry for the mistake... |

Sep-20-07 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan: <I am still astonished that the official site for such an important tournament should be so badly bungled. > After four years of following professional chess on the internet, I am not at all surprised.> You are more experienced than I. :-)
This is easily the sloppiest, most ineptly operated official website I have ever encountered. - They didn't announce the pairings until sometime AFTER the games began. - When they did announce them, they were hopelessly wrong (and their mistakes were copied to other sites like chessbase.com). - They had (for example) Kramnik playing Svidler 3 times, and Aronian once. - They swapped rounds 6 & 7, and didn't correct(*) it until moments before round 6 began. [* - see below] - Here we are, about halfway through the tournament, and the official site <still> doesn't have it right. - For rounds 9-14, they have the colors wrong -- they just copied from the first half without reversing the color of the pieces! - On the Spanish page, in round 8, they have Grischuk playing a simul (against Kramnik and Leko), while Svidler takes a siesta. - On the Spanish page, they wrote the date & time information for rounds 1-3 in Spanish, and the following rounds in English. - I've sent several emails to the addresses shown on the CONTACTO page, and they have all bounced back to me as undeliverable! Anyway, they've made it <heck> for running a prediction contest. I would have thought, given that this is arguably one of the most prestigious tournaments in years, that they would have made sure that the official site did it's job competently. Naive am I. |

 | | cu8sfan: <YouRang> Sorry, just read your answer now. <I would have thought, given that this is arguably one of the most prestigious tournaments in years> Somehow, prestige doesn't seem to count with FIDE. I can't understand why they are so inept at putting a website up and posting a couple dozens of pairings. Any kid can do this. It's not like they have to shell out half a million to post some results. This is simply unbelievable. On a much lighter note, the Cubs have swept the Pirates and are now 3.5 ahead of the Brewers (thank you, Atlanta!). Their magic number is down to 4 now. I have always said, the Cubs will not complete the century, therefore, they will HAVE to win the World Series this year! (-: |
|
Sep-24-07 | | YouRang: Well, thanks for giving me some space to vent about FIDE's bungling. Like you say, I would expect better from a kid. Now that the Dodgers are out of it, I'll be rooting for the Cubs too (which may be a bad omen for them - a lot of good it did for the Dodgers). I'm going to see the Dodgers play on the 29th -- a meaningless game to wind down the season. But, they'll be selling hot dogs and peanuts, so I'll be happy! (This is the makeup game for the one we missed because they changed the start time). As for the American League... Go Angels! |

This forum will go berserk when they win it all this October! (-: |

 | | WannaBe: Yes, congrats to the Cubbies, while my fav., Dodgers, get to take a early fall vacation. =( |
|
Oct-01-07 | | YouRang: Go CUBS!!
I saw the Dodger game last Saturday (their 2nd to last game of the year). Actually, it was a great game. The Dodgers were trailing the Giants 0-4 after a couple innings, but they stormed back to tie, the right fielder threw a runner out at the plate, and in the 10th inning they got a pinch hit double to win. Much better than their last game of the year -- they got trounced by the Giants, something like 3-11. But now, it's time to root for the Cubs. They have the worst record of any playoff team this year, but such teams have won it all before. (I think the Minnesota Twins did it one year...) |
|
Oct-01-07
 | | WannaBe: Just go back to last year, St. Cardinals won the central with 82-80 record (Same as this year's Dodgers) and they won it all! |
|
Oct-01-07 | | YouRang: <cu8sfan> I noticed in another forum that you are visiting the American west coast. (North America I presume?). Hope you enjoy your stay -- looks like we've got some nice weather for you today. :-) |

|
Oct-07-07 | | talisman: theriot should be a free agent.now the cubs need to make sure they keep him.i don't know how the new owners figure into this. on the s-side uribe making 5 million/per/yr. and i'll take the riot over juan any day.anyway i know ryan signed a 1 yr. contract.not sure if he even has an agent yet. |
|
Oct-08-07 | | YouRang: Okay, I started rooting for the Dodgers to make the playoffs, but they fell out of 1st and finished 4th in their division. So, for the playoffs, I decided to root for the Cubs and Angels. They both got swept 0-3. Okay, which team would like my rooting services now? Anyone...? |
|
Oct-08-07 | | chessmoron: Indians or the Red Sox. |
|
Oct-08-07
 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> Root for Arizona... Here is why, (very strange reasoning...) Game 7 of the World Series is Nov. 1st (if the game is necessary) Remaining contenders:
AL: Cleveland, NY, Boston.
NL: Arizona, Colorado
Now, all 3 of AL teams are cold weather and no (retractable) roof at their stadium, and Colorado does not have one either. (Arizona's ball park have a retractable roof) Wouldn't it be fun to watch them play baseball in very late Oct. and possibly Nov. 1st?! Possibly in the snow?? Goooooooooo Cold Weather Cities! =) |
|
Oct-08-07 | | YouRang: <WannaBe> Sounds good to me! Okay then -- with apologies to our friends in Boston and Arizona, I'm now rooting for the Red Sox and D-Backs to meet in the World Series! (It will be fun watching the Indians and Rockies play in the snow! :-) |
|
Oct-13-07
 | | cu8sfan: Man, the Rockies are really on a roll!
How about that interference call in game 1!? I've seen fans throw items on the field many times in Europe but never in America. I didn't know fans there knew they could do such a thing. I thinks it's a disgrace for Arizona's fans. How many of you remembered the interference rule and knew exactly where each runner would end up and how many outs were recorded? (-: |
|
Oct-22-07
 | | cu8sfan: The come-from-behind-no-series-is-easy-Red-Sox or the can't-lose-Rockies, this should be interesting! I'm rooting for the Red Sox of course. |
