The pictures I took at Corus 2006 are now online! You can view them on the following website:

http://corus2006.photos.us.com

If you have questions or comments about the pictures or the website, or if you want the original pictures, please write me a message on my EmperorAtahualpa chessforum. Thanks.

P.S.: Since visitors were not allowed to use flash photography and my tripod was too big to set up in the middle of the crowd, many pictures turned out blurred. Originally, I had over 150 pictures but only these 74 were good enough to put on my website. :( You will notice that some of these pictures are blurred too, but you will also notice that they get better along the way.

cu8sfan: <all> I've changed some of the rules to the prediction contest prior to the Wijk aan Zee tournament. Check out the rules on page 1 of the cu8sfan chessforum. If you want to participate and have missed rounds one and two, the third round is your last chance to get in.
Jan-16-06  Benzol: <cu8sfan> Sorry for being a little slow with this. Thankyou for support about the bios. I hope they have been and will continue to be useful.

:)

Jan-16-06  YouRang: For <All>:
Congratulations to <mikejaqua> for getting a perfect 7/7 in round 1!

In round 2, the best predictors with 5/7 were <bobbyboomer>, <excmo> and <KingG>.

In round 3, the best with 5/7 were <Assassinater>, <Broon Bottle>, <Endgame>, <you vs. yourself> and <YouRang>(!).

Please be careful when posting predictions to get spelling right. Some of you introduced players named "Barcot" and "Glefand", which fouls up the program's efforts to understand your predictions.

Spelling problems can be corrected, but it is more important to make sure you enter predictions for every game (all 7) in each round. <Xerox>, in round 3 you only predicted 6 games (missing the Mamedyarov-Sokolov game). The software rejects incomplete predictions. Shame!! ;-)

For <cu8sfan>:
I ran the prediction results through my system, and I pretty much have the same results as you. One exception is that you don't have <Vishyfan> in your list, while I had him/her with 2 points in my count.

You had <Montreal1666> with 3 points, while I had 6 points. I think you may have missed <Montreal1666>'s third round predictions.

If you haven't done so already, I recommend that you add the following fixups: VanWely->Wely,Barcot->Bacrot,Glefand->Gelfand (Usually, if there are spelling mistakes, it is best to correct them with fixups, if possible, than by editing the prediction posts.)

Also, you had 6 points for <Xerox> while I had 3 points. I suspect that you were VERY nice and fixed up <Xerox>'s post so that his/her incomplete post would be accepted.

Based on this comparison, I think we can be confident that the program is working properly. In my view, the most shocking result so far is that I am among the leaders in your prediction contest! :-D

cu8sfan: <YouRang> Thanks for running these tests. I'll look into the discrepancies.

< suspect that you were VERY nice and fixed up <Xerox>'s post so that his/her incomplete post would be accepted.> Yes, I did. I'm very nice!

<In my view, the most shocking result so far is that I am among the leaders in your prediction contest!> You are so busted! Hand over that source code and we'll know why! (-:

cu8sfan: <One exception is that you don't have <Vishyfan> in your list, while I had him/her with 2 points in my count.> rotflmao!!! I just found out what happened here! I have a fixup (I have lots of them, Barcot and Glefand were in there before I started the tournament) that turns Vishy into Anand. That's why we have the participant "Anandfan" that should be "Vishyfan".
Jan-16-06  YouRang: <You are so busted! Hand over that source code and we'll know why! (-:> LOL! Keep watching, I'll start drifting toward the bottom of the scoring list pretty soon...

BTW - Would you mind if I posted some "consolation prizes" at the end of the tournament (using the other reports that use different scoring methods)?

  Joshka: Round 4 Predictions

Sokolov-Anand 1/2
Leko-Ivanchuk 1-0
Kamsky-Aronian 1/2
Adams-Karjakin 1/2
Bacrot-Gelfand 0-1
van Wely-Topalov 1/2
Mamedyarov-Tiviakov 1-0

<wannabe> If you think you suck; last round I predicted 4 draws, they were all decisive. I predicted 3 decisive, they were all drawn. If I had wanted to be wrong on every game, i could not have done it!!!LOL..Korchnoi's "cow" could have picked at least one right!:-)

Jan-16-06  dimradil: Round 4 :

Sokolov - Anand 0-1
Leko - Ivanchuk 1/2
Kamsky - Aronian 1/2
Adams - Karjakin 1-0
Bacrot - Gelfand 1-0
van Wely - Topalov 1/2
Mamedyarov - Tiviakov 1/2

Which one of the dutch guys will succeed in keeping Anand/Topalov to a draw ? Since i really like van Wely, and i really eally like Vishy, this is how it's got to be ...

Loek van Wely has been calling himself King Loek for years now on his website. But did you know he changed it to "Blue Loek" just before his first round game against Kasparov in Tilburg 1997 ? Didn't help him much, though, he lost horribly.

Bacrot will have a hard time actually winning against Gelfand, but he should if he wants to do as well as i predicted him to.

How i wish Mickey '2850 with white' would give Karjakin some chess lessons tomorrow.

Jan-17-06  suenteus po 147: <you vs yourself> Your point is well taken, and I am ashamed to predict against Kamsky. However! It seems that Kasmky fairs better against the "old" crowd better than the "new" one, so I'm guessing Aronian will score big today. However, Anand and Ivanchuk have a nasty surprise coming when they face Gata :)
Jan-17-06  suenteus po 147: By the way, am I the only one predicting a Van Wely win against Topalov?

cu8sfan: <<cu8sfan> What about my predictions for round 1 ? I have posted them on the corus forum before you asked to post on this forum> Sorry! I and others have repeatedly posted on the Corus Wijk aan Zee (2006) page that this is the place for the prediction contest. Before the first such post there was one single prediction post which I counted for the contest.

cu8sfan: <YouRang> It works now. I think I'll have to process all the files before switching to the output view. You can't just start the program and then try and use the output report, right?

<Betting Ranker ($1 per bet; total divided among correct predictors)

$38.26,YouRang,21,3>

You DID tamper with the outcome, didn't you? (-:

Jan-17-06  Bobak Zahmat: <lostemperor> Haha:) I have predicted seven decisive game and you have 7 draws!

lostemperor: Well I wasn't sure I can give you that <Bobak Zahmat>. There may just be a lot of surprises/decisive games today.
Jan-17-06  YouRang: <cu8sfan> To run a report, you first have to select the contest (it sounds like you named it "WIJK"). Then you should be able to swith to the Output tab and run a report. That report will be based on all rounds that you have processed so far.

<Betting Ranker> <You DID tamper with the outcome, didn't you?> LOL! I saw that yesterday and almost fell out of my chair. My first thought: "Lord, THAT will be hard to explain...".

Perhaps you didn't see my post in the World Chess Championship (2005) forum where I showed the Betting Ranker results. There, I came within 1 penny of being the biggest loser!

Jan-17-06  YouRang: <cu8sfan> Might I suggest that when the games begin, that you enter a post in this forum stating that the predictions are closed for that round? This makes it easier to know where to stop collecting prediction data. :)

cu8sfan: <Might I suggest that when the games begin, that you enter a post in this forum stating that the predictions are closed for that round?> <Annie K.> has suggested this and I've done it before. However today I was out for luncheon and asked someone else to do it. Seems no one read that post. (-; Whenever I'm around I will do it.

Reports are running now, thanks.

Jan-17-06  YouRang: <cu8sfan> I sent you another software update this morning (correcting a little bug I found last night).
