Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

Sep-23-12  chess4us: lostemperor, we created this Pool website, SportPoolGuru.com, that would be a perfect fit for you and your followers. Members can participate in Pools hosted by Clubs(member-run groups) for free. Clubs can create Pools in all sports and manage all aspects of the game. Pools can be tournament based, round robin, swiss system, or prediction (placement) contest. The Pool is free to create as long as it's competitive - has at least 10 members participating.

In fact, we have been testing chess predictions under a Club : ChessFans and have a couple of Pools run successfully. If you want, we can transfer this Club to you or help you create your own Club - again for free. There is one Club Owner but you can have multiple Managers to help you out.

We created the site to make it easier to run these small enthusiast Pools, not to make money off of you. We also provided the ability to link the Pool to the forums so we aren't interested in stealing your followers.

Feel free to email me at adminteam@sportpoolguru.com.

lostemperor: <Bureaucrat> you should get extra odd points for your predictions what was indeed late :)

Standings after 5 rounds
1 Fabiano Caruana 11
2 Levon Aronian 7
3 Magnus Carlsen 6
4 Viswanathan Anand 5
5 Francisco Vallejo 4
6 Sergey Kariakin

Oct-01-12  dakgootje: <you should get extra odd points for your predictions what was indeed late>

Can I go for the oddity award, by entering my prediction after the tournament has ended?

Oct-01-12  chessmoron: <lostemperor> Don't forget your Round 6 and future predictions.

lostemperor: It occured to me that <Bureaucrat> put Caruana and Aronian relative low, contrary to Carlsen and Karjakinn on his predictions after Cariuana and Aronian had beaten Carlsen and Karjakin in the first round. That is what I call betting against the odds what can be done and if it were possible I would want to reward some extra odd points:) Having said that, I cannot calculate his prediciton because it was too late. I am just a mere servant of the contester in this prediciton game and held to implement the rules :)

Meanwhile, my (new) internet windows explorer is refusing to open the CONMAN calculating program for this final standings contest. I hope to get it fixed asap.

lostemperor: Okay I managed to get the CONMAN software up and running again .. (with the help of it's creator)!

Masters standings after round 7:

1 Fabiano Caruana 12
1 Magnus Carlsen 12
3 Levon Aronian 9
4 Viswanathan Anand 7
5 Sergey Kariakin 5
6 Francisco Vallejo 4
