But anyway,we entered the New Year in a quite and cosy way and soon Hannah got a new job (pr.15th of March) so she is over the moon ! And to mee it doesnt hurt to get some daily time on my own,though we have enjoyed having a lot of time together. Tomorrow we shall see some good old fashion chess for the first time in ages.
I hope i can find the chess mojo and will try my best. Meawhile I´ll send you and Maria all the best wishes for the weekend to come. Arrividerci ! And take care. |

I've been followinf the latest tournaments a bit, with mixed performances by Carlsen, well, it's only natural I guess. Also my chess games had mixed results. well, I never contended I have a good memory and power of calculation. Not to ention I hate learning openings by heard, so...you guess the outcome. But I still love the game, of course. Have an excellent end of week, my dear. |

Very good to hear from you.
And I agree it is natural with mixed results,also in chess.I for one wouldnt like either if it was the same,e.g. Carlsen,who won it all.That would be agaist the nature of sports. But as you mentioned it is the love of the game that is the most important,certainly.
I never was a big fa nof learning openings by heart,but when you play tournaments it is necessary to at least know some of the basic lines.And otherwise there is always sytems like KID in the forehand or alike,one can play up till a certain point. Here thing are going quiet and we have a rhytm adjusted to the coranarestrictions with a lot of daily routines.But it could be worse and I am shure we get the best out of this special situation.
Perhaps I have already told you that Hannah is starting on her new job the 15th of March !?...I any case she is looking forward to it and I wouldn´t mind either to have some more space :),though we get along very well ! These were the words and I send you and Maria all the best wishes and hope you still can find the courage and persistence in these times. Au revoir !

A very strange year has passed, but now 10 days since my second shot and no side effects whatsoever. The future looks encouraging. If I got you well, you mentioned the KID as a system in which you can get by not sticking close to the opening lines? Anyhow, it's always descouraging when you realise you botched a game solely out of an opening mistake...not that a middle game "(which otherwise went pretty well) "blindness" didn't cause headaches for me either...:) But I guess it's all part of chess inner adventure, heart shaking, way - if we were to ressemble it to an action video game, when you got surprisingly shot at by your foe...Of course, all similarity stays on the "ouch!" level. After a great dinner I have just passed the best wishes to Hannah which she was happy to recieve.And it is definately great you have reacted so fine after 10 days.Please continue that way ! Chesswise I meat that there are openings like Colle and KID in the forehand(NF3,g3,Bg2,0-0,sometimes d3) which can be played against many black defences.They are at least relatively easy to learn and the main ideas too.Kind of systems.I know you are an 1.e4 man,right ?
But still.Who knows.They may be worth a try.And if it works - it works as Anand says !.
By using these you wont be run over in the opening very often. It has been a rather good day and I send you all the best wishes and hope for further courage and endurance in these special times we live in. Soon we shall enjoy a series from Shetland.A crimestory told in the a very tense and superiour style. Arrividerci and lot of hugs ! |

Some sneezing and running nose since two days here, plus this early morning something strange happened to my breathing for an hour or two, but I should be all right. If symptoms continue though, tomorrow I might call the guys with the PCR test. A windy day here. I've seen a few movies on tv, played the usual chess games. Leisure time on weekend. How about you?

It has beeen a great day today with a trip to the seaside for the first time in ages.Licking sun and icecream while watching the small ships and boats while the local fishermen were having a chat and a beer.Almost like before the corona and we were grateful to realize, with our own eyes, that society is still working !.... And how about you ? Hopefully your breathing incident was an only one time happening ....So please let me know. Tonight Hannah wil do one of her favourite dishes.Shrimps with rice and some vgetables.It is delicious and combined with a BBC quiz we should be well equpped to meet the evening. So all is ok/fine here and I wish all the best for you and please also give some hugs to Maria ! Arrividerci and see you up the road. |

I did call the family doctor though and she told me that, since I have both shots of vaccine administered, it most probably was just a common cold, so no need for a test. Great! We should trust the specialists! :) Oh, how I envy you living by the ocean, it must be marvelous to be able to breathe all the time the sea air, which is so beneficial in many respects. You lucky pair! :) Hugs returned to both Hannah and you. |

Spring time here, some 12 degrees in Iasi and blue sky. Magnus finished third at the last big tournament, and I will refrain from commenting the noodles episod. He is unusually strong and it's all that matters, for the rest - who's perfect? Yes, he has this and that, ok, it seems we will get over it and stick for what we should care for: his games. Plus, he plays a lot (let's compare him with Fischer, in this respect), therefore, great for us, kibitzers. Of course he's getting on our nerves at times. We comment about it a bit, then life goes on. I was watching the skating in Stockholm, lately. I didn't follow that Paris-Nice thing. And, of course, played some chess games. I noticed I'm good, of late. But, as a matter of fact, I'm very weak. All the best for this weekend to Hannah and you. |

Thanks for dropping by.It is always good to hear from you.And I have just been through some old kibitzing were we and several others at the time in 2013 when Magnus played his first WC.Great walk through memory lane ! Spring has also arrived here today and many people in the neighbourhood are going for a long walk.Feels almost like the good old days when there was no corona ;)/): And I agree wth you that Carlsen most likely is up to the task again when they play for all the marbles in November.But before that, Caissa has planted the Candidates which is off in almost only one weeks time.I am looking forward to it ! Any predictions from you ? Glad to hear things are going good with Marias first shot and I hope it continues.
We will have ours in a couple of weeks with the older one,me,as the first ;) Well in my world it doesnt really matter if we are good or not in chess as the pleasure
with the game is what counts the most.
