Hello all,
I joined CG as an administrator, editor & front-end developer. I will start helping CG with administrative/editor tasks such as making sure tournaments and their bio's are complete and up-to-date, reading forums to help list and prioritize tasks at hand.

Stonehenge: <This problem started a week ago or so.>

OK, that appears to be a problem with ChessTempo, where I entered the moves. I won't be using that anymore.

<<stone> when uploading games or events use the editors page: https://www.chessgames.com/editor.h.... There you can choose game-type.>

I know, and I'm not happy with it. The old system where you had software crawling through the db that changed game types worked better. What if someone uploads a hundred games at a time with a bunch of different game types? What if someone uploads a hundred correspondence games that get a bunch of different tids and I forgot to change the game type?

<I am asking for all my account(s) to be restored.>

You can choose 3 usernames, but
at the moment we're only allowing 3.

Dec-06-22  Rdb: <petemcd85: <<CG> has promised to extinguish such attacks. Clearly current measures are not adequate.> I'll start giving out probation, maybe it'll help calm things down>

I spoke what I wanted to speak and admins let me speak (they deleted some of my post when my posts became verbose/chaotic) .

Admins did not give me probation.

Admins were very reasonable

2) so , after I spoke what I wanted to speak , I was done and became calm and quiet.

3) but if I had not become calm and quiet and instead was part of some chaotic situation , how would admins deal with that chaos ? Admins would not be left with any other option but to give probation to me or some other party in that chaos - probation to whoever was not calm , restrained and civil.

petemcd85: <<Additionally, will <<CG>> now publish a list of all users who post with more than one account name?>>

I don't see any reason for this.

<Can we ask to identify other users when a known sock (or alias) is being used?>>

I guess depending on the circumstance. Is the sock or alias causing problems? Is he/she using it to circumvent disciplinary actions?

fredthebear: The comments about ohio member are inappropriate, crossing boundaries, true or otherwise. Singling out individuals for public broadcast is so very wrong.

Another case of MYOB. Members should not be investigating other members for any reason. The administration should not be giving out any member information for any reason. Let the researcher find useful chess tournament/player information and quit trying to circumvent the rules. There are far too many unchecked personal attacks as it is.

If a member has a concern, report it. The administration can handle it privately. Stop giving out special reports to the public. Open discussions of others through forums is very unfair. Targeting others is CYBERSTALKING.

petemcd85 chessforum

Some things should be discussed in private to avoid the back and forth arguments.

Dec-08-22  stone free or die: <<Fred> If a member has a concern, report it. The administration can handle it privately. Stop giving out special reports to the public. Open discussions of others through forums is very unfair. Targeting others is CYBERSTALKING.>

This is the very height of hypocrisy - and that's Z-truth!

.

Dec-08-22  stone free or die: OK, I agree that my desire to keep all discussions in in public view can make for some difficulty.

It's perhaps an unrealistic principle I'd like to keep - that all my dealings on <CG> have 100% transparency. Given my previous even larger role as contributor to the site, I thought this would be fairer to those I might be in conflict with.

But, as I said, I'm beginning to moderate - e.g. I now want anonymity for my aliases.

Currently I don't have think I even have three active accounts.

* * * * *

BTW - I found this message not helpful.

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #39774)

First of all, it's wrong about the original PGN (which I guess t(he)y didn't download). The little BTW aside at the end is just cliche trolling - we expect better and more original, especially from admins with moderation powers.

.

Dec-09-22  stone free or die: OK, <pete>, let me mull that over for a bit...

PS - <bippy> is who you think, even if you didn't pick it up the first round.

Dec-09-22  Rdb: < stone free or die: And look who shows up again, like a bad nickel: Kenneth Rogoff (kibitz #10803)

Yes , <big pawn> posted today as <ohioliberalfan> at rogoffland as you and <willber g> both observed.

This is how it is going to play out in all likelihood -

<people will not give any attention to <big pawn.> . That would make <bp> restless and he would start becoming abrasive , abusive , offensive , vile ...And...>

Dec-09-22  stone free or die: One thing good might come out of this...

<pete> do you know about right-click links?

In this post:

More bad intentions.

It's very clear on the website rules that members cannot be changing their names. Be fair to everyone and stick to the three selected names.

This continual manipulation in this forum has got to stop.

OhioChessFan: I'm sure this is fascinating reading, the two of you playing Guess Who, one user name at a time, but really, should you as an admin be engaging at all? If the answer is yes, well, I'd like to play. If the answer is no, then it shouldn't be happening.

fredthebear: Yes OCF, that's one of my concerns. A member can report a problem - fine. Let the administration handle it discretely, professionally.

A member investigating another member, and the administration complying by giving out information on another member (past or present) is wrong.

Ohio Whoever's account should have never come up in this forum. The post should have been read and deleted without further comment. It's nobody else's business.

Dec-09-22  Rdb: <fredthebear><Ohio Whoever's account should have never come up in this forum. The post should have been read and deleted without further comment. It's nobody else's business>

Hear , hear !

+100

I could not have said it better myself.

To rephrase <ftb>

<ftb>< aliases of <zed> is business of others but sock puppets of <big pawn> should not be concern/business of anybody else>

Awesome !

What consistency ! How consistent <ftb> is!

Earlier he was like <ftb><<big pawn> and other far right buddies of mine should have all the right to hurl vilest abuses (including racist abuses) all the time but left wingers should not be allowed to hurl abuses in retaliation >

Oh, how I love <fred> - the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you <fred> . Regards

You're right, I shouldn't have allowed that conversation to continue. I apologize.

Dec-10-22  stone free or die: No, I disagree.

First, this isn't a full fledged administration account - it's meant for broader more general (and detailed) discussions.

Discussion that might involve some back and forth.

Secondly, it there was even the smallest realistic chance that the account in question was a legitimate member of the community - I wouldn't have brought it here in such a fashion(*).

Thirdly, when originally brought here for discussion there was only mention of the account's name, with little or no framing. Partly to see if <CG>'s was aware, i.e. if its detection methods were up to snuff.

Fourth, given that the account is 99.9% or more certain to be <bippy> it is paramount that the <CG> admins enforce their ban.

(There's a 0.1% chance that its a troll account nefariously used by some other <CG> user to imitate <bippy>'s trolliing).

Please note that there is a wide consensus among users that the account is a sock using a different ISP (names supplied upon request).

Fifth - it is equally important to know if <CG> lacks the capacity to detect such socks, for otherwise a return to the unmoderated days of old is almost guaranteed.

= = = = =

(*) Please note that the entire "constellation" of alias/sock accounts are basically dormant until just recently - and never posted any meaningful chess content anywhere.
