MissScarlett: Steve, could you recover H Rosenfeld vs Marshall, 1910?

I've only just realised there's a Create Tournament function, or I wouldn't have gotten into trouble.

Jan-03-22  diceman: Steve,

After these moves:

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e5 4.Nc3 d6 5.e4 Be7 6.Bd3 h6

I ran a 60min(Max) eval of the position, and got these results:

1) +1.18 (43 ply) 6.h3 O-O 7.g3 Na6 8.a3 Rb8 9.Kf1 Nc7 10.Kg2 a6 11.b3 b5 12.Bd2 Re8 13.Qc2 Bf8 14.Nd1 Bd7 15.Ne2 g6 16.f3 Qe7 17.Nf2 Rb7 18.Rhc1 Reb8 19.Ng4 h5 20.Nf2 bxc4 21.Bxc4 Bb5 22.b4 Bxc4 23.Qxc4 Nd7 24.h4 Qd8 25.Be3 Nb5 26.bxc5 dxc5 27.a4 Nd4 28.Qxa6

2) +1.17 (43 ply) 6.b3 O-O 7.h3 a6 8.Bb2 Re8 9.g3 Qc7 10.Kf1 Bd8 11.Kg2 Qe7 12.Qc2 Nbd7 13.Nd1 Ba5 14.Ne3 Nf8 15.Rf1 Ng6 16.Be2 Bc7 17.Nf3 Qd7 18.Rd1 Ba5 19.Ng1 b5 20.Bg4 Qd8 21.Nf3 Nxg4 22.hxg4 bxc4 23.Qxc4 Bc7 24.Nf5 Bd7 25.a4 Ne7 26.N3h4 Nxf5 27.Nxf5 Bxf5

3) +1.17 (42 ply) 6.b3 O-O 7.h3 a6 8.Bb2 Re8 9.g3 Qc7 10.Kf1 Bd8 11.Kg2 Qe7 12.Qc2 Nbd7 13.Nd1 Ba5 14.Ne3 Nf8 15.Rf1 Ng6 16.Be2 Bc7 17.Nf3 Qd7 18.Rd1 Ba5 19.Ng1 b5 20.Bg4 Qd8 21.Nf3 Nxg4 22.hxg4 bxc4 23.Qxc4 Bc7 24.Nf5 Bd7 25.a4 Ne7 26.N3h4 Nxf5 27.Nxf5 Bxf5

While the analysis looks correct, and the ply depth is there, the move numbers are off by one. This <6.h3 O-O> should be: <7.h3 O-O> and so on.

While I don't see a Job#, this is when it was run:

<★ Requested 2022-01-02 09:02:53.

1.0 hour evaluation.>

Thanks

Jan-03-22  diceman: Hi Steve, I just noticed something.

I wanted to check the move 6...h6

If you look in the opening explorer, there is no game where h6 was played

Opening Explorer

So what I do is open a game.
I chose Tarasov/Korchnoi:

V Tarasov vs Korchnoi, 1961

I go back to move 6.Bd3, grab black's h pawn with my mouse, and drag it to h6. A yellow line opens that says <ANALYSIS> and shows h6 as the move now being looked at.

At this point, I click engine, and select the amount of time. I notice that here, the move count is correct.
It starts on move 7.

1) +1.18 (43 ply) 7.h3 O-O 8.g3 Na6 9.a3 Rb8 10.Kf1 Nc7 11.Kg2 a6 12.b3 b5 13.Bd2 Re8 14.Qc2 Bf8 15.Nd1 Bd7 16.Ne2 g6 17.f3 Qe7 18.Nf2 Rb7 19.Rhc1 Reb8 20.Ng4 h5 21.Nf2 bxc4 22.Bxc4 Bb5 23.b4 Bxc4 24.Qxc4 Nd7 25.h4 Qd8 26.Be3 Nb5 27.bxc5 dxc5 28.a4 Nd4 29.Qxa6

Only on my <RECENT ANALYSES> page in the lab, is it incorrect. Starting on move 6.

1) +1.18 (43 ply) 6.h3 O-O 7.g3 Na6 8.a3 Rb8 9.Kf1 Nc7 10.Kg2 a6 11.b3 b5 12.Bd2 Re8 13.Qc2 Bf8 14.Nd1 Bd7 15.Ne2 g6 16.f3 Qe7 17.Nf2 Rb7 18.Rhc1 Reb8 19.Ng4 h5 20.Nf2 bxc4 21.Bxc4 Bb5 22.b4 Bxc4 23.Qxc4 Nd7 24.h4 Qd8 25.Be3 Nb5 26.bxc5 dxc5 27.a4 Nd4 28.Qxa6

  stevemcd87: Hello everyone,
Below is a link to a "Players Directory" we've been working on.
[unknown player] (We'll fix the link one day)
It was originally meant to look for dupe players but we figured it can be used for more.
It should work on a majority of up-to-date browsers🤞.
It still needs a bit of mobile improvements.
Let me know if you run into any issues.

<Stone> There's a "Duplicate FIDE IDs" checkbox in your honor.
We will be adding to this feature to find potential game dupes for each player.

<dice>, I'll get back to you.

Thanks.

Jan-08-22  diceman: <stevemcd87:

<dice>, I'll get back to you.>

Here's a new one:

Looked at this game.
Had the computer look at the position after 7.Bg2. Set it for an hour of analysis, and went to bed.

Shengxin Zhao vs Hongbei Chen, 2019

When I got up in the morning, the computer was still running!

This:

<★ Requested 2022-01-08 07:31:35.

[ view in the Opening Explorer ]

1.0 hour evaluation. (09:10:25 elapsed.)>

indicates it had been running over 9 hours.

(I only had 399 fuel when I started, had the same when I stopped it)

I thought maybe I had done something wrong,
so I stopped it, and started it again.

I received this error message:

<ERROR: Analysis of this position is already in process; started 2022-01-08 07:31:35.>

Thanks

stevemcd87: <Stone>, which player did you try to replace?
I'll look into it.
From instructions:

  Stonehenge: <clear cache using ctrl + shift + r)>

That didn't always work, but now it seems it does. So that's one problem less.

Photos could be a bit bigger I think and perhaps a little bit higher up the page (nitpicking, yes).

Also I cannot put links into the caption area, they are not clickable.

-Something has to be done about photo captions like Ye Jiangchuan. It just looks hideous.

MissScarlett: Time for another update to the Opening Explorer, isn't it? Must be a few months since the last, and what with all the newly added games.
Jan-14-22  Z4all: <<stone> Also I cannot put links into the caption area, they are not clickable.

These two can be combined - Ye's caption should be a link with a short text anchor like <Wikicommons>.

All the kiddies just run the tree window in SCID as the games come in. No fuss, no muss.

(Maybe <CG> could do the same? Of course, SCID offers individualized filtering according to user specs...)

I'm not seeing aliases on NN anymore. On other pages they do appear.

Jan-20-22
Premium Chessgames Member
stevemcd87: <Stone> There are aliases for every player. When a "bad" player is merged into a "good" player, the "good" player will save the "bad" player's name(s) as alias(es). I believe the gameloader takes aliases into consideration when looking for the appropriate player.

We're attempting to bring a live game today, any suggestions?

Stonehenge: <There are aliases for every player.>

Not on NN anymore. I really need to see those because some have to be zapped.

Say I want to delete steve test 87. The only way for me to delete players with zero games is to merge them. But sometimes it's not clear with which player to merge them.

In case of steve test 87, I would merge him with NN, but then I need to get rid of the <steve test 87> alias at NN.

Jan-20-22  diceman: <stevemcd87:

Whoever Carlsen is playing in TATA, would be a safe bet.

Jan-21-22

Stonehenge: OK, I've just deleted (read merged) a player with the name Seckin Dingil, pid=176855 ([bad player ID]), who had zero games.

I have no idea who this is so I've merged him with NN.

Now I need to delete him from the NN aliases, but there are none to be seen.
