stevemcd87: <Chess.com> seems to have an API that may work for us( https://www.chess.com/news/view/pub... ). It'll take some time to implement but can be extremely useful for future events if it works. I'll keep you posted.

Most of the comments that were linked to the attacker were from years ago.\ Please feel free to let us know who you may think it is. I know that may seem like a silly question but we'd like to be as certain as possible before we take our next next course of action

How so?

Chessical: <stevemcd87> I would not recommend that you encourage people to indulge in potentially libelous speculation on an open forum.

I do not think it is particularly difficult for administrators themselves to identify the malefactor with reasonable certainty.

You could perhaps carry out a word search of the database based on unusually spelled or idiosyncratic word use/groups by the malefactor. If you have an apparently strong correlation, then warn and if necessary block their username and IP address. Maybe put a limit on accounts from the same IP address (for which you could make individual exceptions if necessary) to reduce sock puppet spamming.

Why not also auto-delete posts which have proscribed words which have no place in the proper discussion of chess (which is the actual purpose of this website)?

Please could we siphon off the non-chess comment to a dedicated comment page? This was originally supposed to be the Kibitzer's Cafe's role as "meeting place and (for) general discussion"

stevemcd87: << These comments were linked to the attacker(s)> How so?>

Unfortunately, it won't be wise to share how we followed the breadcrumbs in hopes future hackers make the same mistake.
I will teamviewer with Susan to show her exactly how I followed the trail.
Perhaps you can ask her later on how confident she is about the breadcrumb trail.

<Chessical>
Thanks, your opinion has been noted. Perhaps I will put this on my forum for the next attackers or maybe just go with what we feel we already know. As I said, we just want to be as certain as possible.

Yes, it WILL come to a sudden halt soon(If you're referring to the server attacks).

Feel free to Blow the Whistle if you think the comment should be deleted.
I'm sure the moderators(I try to stay as far away as possible from this task) will comply if a few users feel the same.
If it becomes too much of an issue, I'll delete it myself

(<Chessical>, as usual, offers his own sage take on matters)

Good luck to the admins on tracking down the (DoS?) attackers.

Aug-27-22  George Wallace: I have a very good solution at the bottom, but first I’ll address your nonsense and refute it.

< tevemcd87: Hello all,
Since we began moderating, we've been getting a lot more server attacks. The attacker(s) left breadcrumbs that may help bring them to light. Please help us identify who this user(s) might be. Below are a couple restricted comments from different users that were muzzled in the past. These comments were linked to the attacker(s): <I've noticed that too. They've turned the support forum into a shyt on <Big Pawn> page. The Libs go there to scream at the sky about <Big Pawn>. They are screaming through the vaginas in complete defiance. Why, , why?>

<Consider me the of chessgames.com, standing up to the Pink Pusshyhat people who are now in charge of administration. This is my new hobby and I will make endless unnecessary work for the admins every day until they treat members fairly and enforce the rules equally and consistently, so as not to discriminate arbitrarily. Next up with the twitter and FB page. We are taking a baseball bat to those pages too...>

<GW> is this the "strong and manly" characteristic you are referring to? Millennials would probably consider this being more of a Karen than "strong and manly".>

The difference is I didn’t try to ban everyone because of the “toxic environment”!

The other difference is what I said was a description of the events going on.

It’s still the same. Example, you, <Steve> are just another lib crying about <gw> and <bp> on the support page. And what’s worse, is you playing the victim card, telling the world how your feelings are hurt and you won’t put up with it!

😂 😂

Steve, the other difference is that I’ve been marinating in what you would call a <toxic environment> for over a decade on the rogoff page, and I like it like that.

I don’t complain that my mangina hurts and cry like a little girl about the toxic masculinity!

Now it’s problem and solution time…

The real problem: I think the problem with you is you need an outlet. <gw> popped your bubble with his !!! HOMO ALERTS !!! and because you are an admin you think you can’t get in the ring and duke it out with the members, so that’s leaving you feeling upset by my toxic masculinity.

Solution: stop being a big, wet mangina and step into the ring and engage in some full contact political cage fighting. It’ll toughen you up. You’ll be able to express yourself, so you won’t feel like you have to delete and suspend people whose politics and religious views are different than your own.

Do you realize the same basic group of libs and right wingers have been crapping on each other, being toxic to each other, daily for over ten years on the rogoff page? Do you think we need your millennial sensitivities and woke values forced upon us?

Do you think we don’t want to fight every day?

Be a man, join the fun, stand up to pee and stop being a big, sensitive mangina who complains about toxic environments!

Aug-27-22  George Wallace: < Chessical: <stevemcd87> Please do not be discouraged, your work is extremely valuable. As you said:>

I’ve been the lone voice of encouragement for Steve when everyone else was crapping on him. Go ahead, call me on it.

I just don’t think his super sensitive, effeminate feelings bubble should cancel free speech on cg, and he shouldn’t be deleting homo alerts just because he doesn’t want to tolerate my point of view. He shouldn’t be so freaking arrogant as to try to impose his woke millennial values on a group of members who have happily been bashing one another for over a decade.

And it’s just ridiculous for a youngster millennial like Steve to try to regular the conversations of a group of guys much older than him. We were arguing politics and being toxic full grown men with families since he was eating animal crackers in his underwear watching cartoons after school.

I don't think. My point is that you were being disingenuous in asking for help in identifying a suspect. You were actually publicly identifying the suspect.

stevemcd87: <GW> You and all of your aliases are now banned, army of sock puppets are next. Just to be clear, it wasn't due to your political belief but for attacking the servers.
I will leave your comments up for historical purposes.
FYI, I consider myself a <South Park Republican> but you can continue calling me a "lib" if you prefer.
I'm sure you have more tricks up your sleeve and you are only wreaking havoc to toughen me up. Thanks.

<I don't think. My point is that you were being disingenuous in asking for help in identifying a suspect. You were actually publicly identifying the suspect.>
I suppose it seems I was pointing at him(due to it sounding like a rhetorical question) but I just posted comments that were linked to an attack and asked him if they were the "strong and manly" characteristic he was referring to.
Granted, not my most genius idea.
