Not sure what the fuss is all about, I have deleted maybe like 2000 duplicates caused by Caisso over the last years. |

 | | MissScarlett: It's a system problem, not just a Caisso problem. Talking of which, where the system does stop a submitted duplicate being uploaded, that ought to be flagged up, because the duplicate may be a legitimate one. This rejection can be missed when a large of file of games has been submitted. |

|
| Oct-30-25 | | stone free or die: Here's my proposal for a high-priority addition to <CG>: <stone free or die:
<<MissScarlett: <I think there have been 2 live games at chessgames.com this year. Probably updating their software.>There's hope for 2026: stevemcd87 chessforum (kibitz #1593)> > My proposal for <steve>'s next task would be to implement a <manual entry live game interface> which could be manned by any given volunteer. Basically, the volunteer would watch the game live on some host site, and play the moves on a board programmed to forward the moves to <CG>. This is similar to how <Daniel> might have originally done it, I think. Of course, only one game would be live at any given time - but that's proven to be the best format for <CG> since it focuses both attention and commentary from the community. Once such an interface is set up, it could be supplemented by more sophisticated web-scrapping software. But the manual entry interface would have the advantage of always be viable and available - and once programmed could be operated by volunteers without any additional expenditure by <CG>.

United States Championship (2025) (kibitz #117) |
|
| Oct-30-25 | | stone free or die: My proposal doesn't exclude other work on the matter, of course. But it would allow the community to always be able to provide for themselves for the rest of the lifetime of the internet (or <CG>'s sale, whichever comes first). Given the vast number of retirees on <CG>, I doubt there would ever be a lack of volunteers for the manual live-game feed. Especially if the <you-ask-for-it, you-do-it> standard is applied! |

 | | stevemcd87: <MissScarlett: Drop everything else. Your priority should be to finally sort this issue!> It's the old Nd2/Ne2 bug that allowed the game to be uploaded. We're finishing the script to rekey the half million games that may be effected. Once complete, we will rerun the script to check for duplicates. <Stonehenge: Ghost game?>
We now have a script that checks for ghost games for tournaments and players: https://www.chessgames.com/perl/gho...
I'm going to remove the script that auto-checks for ghost games on the player page. It may not be ideal for all ghost games. <MissScarlett: <It'll take some time to implement but can be extremely useful for future events if it works. I'll keep you posted.>>
That API doesn't seem to be for FIDE events. We will need to stick with Lichess for now. |

- Date changes are now being logged
- ECO changes, due to PGN and DB differences, will no longer be attributed to the editor
- Elo tags will no longer be removed when unknown(?)
Let me know if you run into any issues or if you have another feature in mind that may assist in fixing/maintaining the database |

✎ – Edit: unlocks the selected row for editing. ✔ – Confirm: saves the change (you’ll be asked to confirm).> Sometimes it's necessary to unlock more than one row. It would be handy if we could confirm all changes by clicking just one <✔>. For example, changing a pid doesn't change the name in the PGN. Now I have to change the pid, click on confirm, then go back to the game and change the name in the PGN and then click confirm again. |

 | | Stonehenge: Why do some players have <most played openings> like this Magnus Carlsen and some have it like this Marion Heintze? |
|
| Nov-10-25 | | stone free or die: Is there a minimum number of games before the White/Black breakout is done? (E.g. are there other examples similar to the non-Carlsen one?) . |

Nov-10-25
 | | Stonehenge: Some players I can update to get the White/Black breakout, others I can't. Tried to update her (Marion Heintze) highest rating with a fake rating. If everything goes right, you'll get a pop-up saying you should refresh the page. But in this case there was no pop-up, after refreshing the rating indeed changed, but not the appearance of <most played openings> etc. |

 | | Stonehenge: Updated the ECO to B73 in the PGN here F Bohatirchuk vs Botvinnik, 1933 but I also need to update it in the Game Editor, and that doesn't work. |
|
| Nov-10-25 | | stone free or die: Consider this player: Peter Niemann He's another example of a collapsed opening summary. Only 5 games in the <"Most Played"> vs. 17 games in the db. Can an editor, or super-editor, sync up the game counts without admin intervention? Knowing <Daniel>, there's likely a script somewhere that might just be hand-run. Or maybe triggered by some unknown criteria. Consider Magnus -
Magnus Carlsen He has 5266 games in the db, but his opening breakout has only 2567 games (I summed them up by hand). OK, maybe the games excluded from his results stats (3302) aren't included in the opening breakout, but the numbers don't add up - 2567 + 3302 = 5869 (> 5266).
Obviously, <stevemcd87> needs to enter the discussion soon to get the "under the hood" look. I would assume that we might not want the exhibition, etc. games in the opening breakout. Then again, maybe we'd like to see those in addition? (E.g. openings for rapid vs blitz vs classical might be interesting, only for pure exhibition games, etc.) . |
