 | | kingscrusher: This was really quite a crushing game - I have video annotated it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8vc... |

 | | offramp: I don't like to criticize people who's first language is not English, <kingscrusher>, but you desperately need to take lessons in how to speak the English "th" sound. For example it is not "furva" or "meffud" or "fink". If you ever see those words written down you'll see that they are in fact "further", "method" and "think". |
Nov-22-10 | | positionalgenius: <Offramp> Incredibly ignorant post you just did there. |

 | | offramp: Good game, though! |

 | | kingscrusher: offramp: Funny enough English is my first language and I got a 2:1 Honours degree at a University in West London, part of which involved essay rating. I guess I do struggle with the pronounciation you mentioned. Most people on youtube generally don't mind though. Thanks anyway for checking out the video. |
Nov-22-10 | | Jim Bartle: All I care about hearing from kingscrusher is "Hi all!," which signals I'm going to be listening to crisp and entertaining analysis of a good game. |
Nov-22-10
 | | offramp: <kingscrusher> If you can say The, This and That why can't you say Three, Method or Further? |
Nov-22-10 | | Hubbs: Teach ME. |
Nov-22-10 | | Shams: <offramp> Speaking the "th" as an "f" is simply a trope of many British native speakers of English. I'm surprised you didn't know that. <kingscrusher>'s response was more polite than you deserved. You surprise me, both for not knowing this and for how you brought it up. I'm going to chalk it up to you having a bad day. |
Nov-22-10 | | Bdellovibrio: <offramp> The sound in "the," "this," and "that" are different from that in "three," "method," and "further," because the former are voiced (They require that one's vocal folds vibrate) whereas the latter are unvoiced. And as <Shams> correctly noted, the unvoiced set are replaced by their unvoiced labio-dental counterpart for speakers of certain dialects within the United Kingdom. |
Nov-22-10 | | Bdellovibrio: correction: "further" does feature a <voiced> alveolar fricative. It belongs with "This" et al and not "method." |

 | | tamar: Enough with the freakin fricatives. What a game! |
Nov-23-10 | | Hovik2009: English is a real tough nut among languages to crack, I am saying that because I am polyglot and English is my fourth language, her phonetics really sucks and lags behind other languages in centuries, its grammer is more developed and straight forward but not perfect, its broad vocabulary I guess is a plus for native speakers but pain in an ass for others! |

 | | tpstar: <offramp> has a whimsical streak and has even pulled <ray keene>'s chain before, so take his jests in jest. =) <kingscrusher> Your videos are great! You explain things very well and truly liven things up with your engaging style. And you can't beat the price! ;>D Amazing how elite GMs never play 4. Nc3 against the Schliemann. |
Nov-23-10 | | Travis Bickle: Like Bobby would say, Svidler's last move was "Coup De Grace"! ; P |

 | | kingscrusher: tpstar: Thanks - As well as youtube, I have also been a Chessbase presenter in the last few weeks on the Playchess.com server on Tuesday nights at 7.00 BST - I have a presentation scheduled later tonight. I hope most people value semantics over syntactic details - especially a chess audience who I hope are more gripped by the game ideas. Although I am working on my pronounciation of certain player names - e.g. Nakamura - I do got helpful hints like "Murial" - so hopefully these will improve too. Or I could just stick to shortcuts like "Naka" instead. When "Naka" loses, I could say his position got "Knackered".. I haven't used this little joke yet. |

 | | offramp: I was born in Clapham and I now live in Tooting. I can say "further", "method" and "think" with no problems at all. |
Jan-25-11 | | technical draw: <Hovik2009> <I am polyglot> Sorry to hear that, are you taking medication? |
Jan-25-11 | | TheFocus: Yeah, that polyglot can spread if left untreated. A friend of mine lost his foot from untreated polyglot. Until you see you doctor, I recommend avoiding shellfish and rubbing some calomine lotion on it. That will be $15 please, payable to Dr. <Focus>. |
Jan-25-11 | | technical draw: Man this forum has a lot of medical problems:
< I was born in Clapham and I now live in Tooting.> Well a STD and an addiction. Dr. Draw can treat them both, just come to my office with gloves and don't pay me with your stash. |
Jan-25-11 | | TheFocus: Where I come from, when a woman breaks wind (that's farting for the uncouth), we call it "tooting". If that is his problem, then I understand why he never gets a date. |
Jan-25-11 | | technical draw: Esteemed colleague Dr. Focus: Thank you, I was going to treat my patient for addiction when all he had was gas. You saved me from a mal. IOU..Dr. D |
Jan-25-11 | | TheFocus: <TD> No charge. Professional courtesy. |
