Benzol: Mikhail Steinberg died at a very young age, does anybody have any information on him? Thanks in advance.
Aug-25-05  who: He plays the Ruy Lopez open and takes both the e and d pawns. In the two games he does he comes out unscathed (one is even against Gligoric - albeit a simul).

perfidious: <Benzol> I've wondered about Steinberg too; some years ago, I read a snippet about him, but don't recall anything more.

Domdaniel: Botvinnik in 1968 singled out Steinberg and Karpov as the most promising young players. The full quote is on the Karpov page.

Benzol: Looks like M Shteinberg could be the same player.
Nov-16-13  RedShield: <The next set of quotes comes from an article ‘M.M. Botvinnik declares ...’ on pages 3-8 of CHESS, October 1968 (a report on an address by Botvinnik to an audience of 400 in Vladimir in late July):

‘Amongst our promising young players only two stand out – Anatoly Karpov from Tula and Mike Steinberg from Kharkov. It is still far from certain that they will make grandmasters of the calibre of Spassky and Tal.’>
