perfidious: In 1987, Alex and I played the under-2400 section at the New York Open; his first-round opponent was a little girl with a teddy bear, and she rolled him up.

We now know her well as Judith Polgar.

Nov-02-07  RookFile: I remember Alex telling that story to Harry Lyman at the Boylston chess club. He showed the game too - something about a discovered attack leading to bad news on the king's rook file.

Aug-05-08  RookFile: Well, I guess this picture answers the question somebody was asking in the Larry Christianson forum about whether Larry is still playing these days.

It killed two birds with one stone ;)

perfidious: It appears Alex has played abroad a fair amount in recent years, but not at all in USA since 2016.

Alex was a difficult opponent for me; White won all six of our games. Regrettably, I was White only once. His style was solid and positionally based and I never quite came to grips with it.

Alex was quiet, always well mannered and decent to be around. Hope all is well with him.

perfidious: Weekend before last, I was in the Boston area and played a one-day event. Scuttlebutt is that Alex is now living in Ecuador.
