Aug-13-10  BobCrisp: It seems that the score of his 1927 Olympiad game in London, with Reti, is no longer extant. But here's the crucial position:

Given a choice between a mate in 2 (1.Rh8+) or a mate in 4 (1.Rxg5), Picurena went for 1.Rxf7?? Qxh6 2.Qxh6 Kxf7? (2...Bxh6) and ended up losing. Maybe it was a mad time scramble.

Aug-13-10  Shams: "No longer extant" is just bad English.
Aug-14-10  BobCrisp: Prove it, white boy.
Aug-17-10  Shams: "Not extant" is correct. Think, Bob, you can do this.
Aug-17-10  BobCrisp: I said 'prove it, white boy.'
Aug-17-10  Shams: You really should have been able to penetrate this one. "No longer extant" can only refer to something that once was extant, but is not now extant. As the definition of "extant" is basically "still surviving at the present day", that makes "no longer extant" a redundancy. Rather a pure specimen of redundancy, actually. Rare to find one in the wild. Nice work, Bobbo.
Nov-11-10  Eastfrisian: .. and still living? That would be a surprise.
Nov-24-24  Nosnibor: He passed away 26th December 1995 at the age of 93. The bio needs amending.

  Stonehenge: Changed. I suppose Bidmonfa is good enough a source.
Nov-24-24  stone free or die: <<Stone> I suppose Bidmonfa is good enough a source.>

As a lead for a better source I would hope.

Note that both his Catalan and Spanish language wiki pages don't have a dod. This, despite the Catalan page having this source published in 2000:

<Martín González , Ángel; Lopez Manzano , Antonio. Catalan Chess Federation. FCE: 75 Years of History 1925-2000 , 2001, p. 367 pages. ISBN 84-607-1908-1 .>

Nov-24-24  stone free or die: He is referred to as <Jose Vilardebó> in this Catalan source:

https://www.escacscatalonia.cat/his...

(And chess → escacs (Catalan))

.

Nov-24-24  stone free or die: His bio picture is a cropped pic. The full photo, with him standing next to a chessboard can be found here:
