IM in 1984. GM in 2007. Rated 2556 in Sept. 2009. ICC: Paun

Played in Mitropa Cup 1984 (board 4). Lives now in Spain, or at least plays most of his tournaments there.

Winner of XVIII Ferrol Open 2002, 9th in Malaga Open 2004, 2nd in Magistral de Elgoibar 2007, 3rd in Figueira da Foz 2007, 8th (shared 1st) in World Open León 2008, 1st in Malaga Open July 2009, 5th in Torneio Internacional da Figueira Foz 2009.

Two players died during the 2014 Olympiad, and with players like Purdy and Tate dying at the board it could be that the stress of a chess tournament is equal to that of running a marathon, with similar health risks.
