Honza Cervenka: Wow! Gajewski with black sacced the piece in game with Zakhartsov and has 1h 55mins against 1h 11mins of his opponent. It looks like prepared stuff and so it can work. Is he going to have 6 points after six rounds in Pardubice? See the game on-line http://www.czechopen.net/live-games...

Honza Cervenka: Hmmm, it is only a draw by repetition.

in this standard position it was always played 10...c5 of course. however in 2007 in the game against Kuznetsov Gajewski came to the idea to play the Marshall style 10...d5!?

the idea was soon picked by other players like Wojtaszek, Carlsen and Fressinet.

Nov-24-08   slomarko: the new move won the chessbase award for the novelty of the year. oh and the original game was a real beauty: V Kuznetsov vs G Gajewski, 2007

Thanks.

By any chance do you have a link to the chessbase article announcing Gajewski's move as the novelty of the year?

And do you know how it did in the Chess Informant competition for Best Novelty?

If Carlsen played it, then it *has* to be good. :-)
