Dec-29-05   BIDMONFA: Stefano Tatai

TATAI

Mar-23-07   laskereshevsky: there's a mistake in the BIO, the 1971 championship was won by GM Mariotti....

and for complete it, TATAI also won the 1985 - 1990 - 1991 - 1994/95 national title....

TATAI STEFANO (TATAI ISTVAN) have both the Italian and the Hungarian citizenship...he spended his life jumping from those two countryes....in fact, even if his big part of life was in ITALY, "TATAI" is an Hungarian surname....

As i know, his family was a well-off one.. they ownered same hotels between ROME and BUDAPEST..(and maybe VENICE too...but im not shore about it..)

he was a very smart and culturated person...well know in the tournaments circuit for his good manners.... always well suited.... a kind of chess-gentleman.

as i listened, now he's living his retirement in the Canarian Islands with the family......

Happy Birthday Stefano!

I respect your beliefs of course, but on the following page I count no less than 12: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italia...

brankat: <nescio> I believe You are right :-)

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), when it comes to posts dealing with the matters of Chess History I'm usually too lazy to check available documents/data. Mostly I rely on my memory. Which is still in quite a good shape, and it also helps my chess play.

But, of course, it can also be a double edged sword, so, on occasion, I cut myself :-)

Mar-23-08   Prugno: Unless Fabiano Caruana decides to keep on playing in Italian Championships even though clearly stronger than all his opponents (which seems unlikely), I can't imagine anyone breaking Stefano Tatai's record of 12 national titles.

Tanti auguri, maestro e campione!
