Dec-09-11  TheRavenPK: Je názov tohto turnaja voľný preklad názvu filmu "Sněženky a MachÅ™i" ?
Dec-10-11  siggemannen: The snowdrops really got it handed to them by the oldies in the last round.
Dec-10-11  810609: <TheRavenPK> ten turnaj sa vola rovnako ako film, "Snezenky a machri" - vid http://www.praguechess.cz/poradane-... - ale machri sa blbo preklada a nie celkom trafili pointu... :-)

For the rest, we are discussing quite unlucky translation of the name of tournament from Czech, where it´s named after popular Czechoslovak movie http://www.csfd.cz/film/8556-snezen... , but Czech word "machr" is really difficult to be translated properly, and it´s quite far from "Old hands" :-) So there is quite a lot lost in translation, indeed.

Dec-10-11  SamAtoms1980: Yeah, if a tournament with this name and this theme were held in the USA, somebody would be going bonkers, no doubt about it.
Dec-10-11  waustad: If one of Nona G, Maia C or Pia Cramling played, which side would they put them on? The last two are still active, particluarly Cramling, so it wouldn't be much of an issue.

HeMateMe: "Harry Potter and Almost Potted"...getting desperate...
Dec-10-11  waustad: I suspect that the reason that a somewhat similar tournament, the Euwe Memorial didn't get posted here is because they included the times for every move as a comment.
Dec-10-11  SamAtoms1980: What if we were to try: "Warm Hope and Cold Grope".
Dec-10-11  King Death: < SamAtoms1980: Yeah, if a tournament with this name and this theme were held in the USA, somebody would be going bonkers, no doubt about it.>

A whole lot of somebodies from the PC police would stage protests, write letters and so on.

Dec-10-11  savagerules: Looks like the old guys destroyed the young gals. It shows how experience can overcome the diminishing capacity for calculation at times.
Dec-10-11  waustad: Mariya Muzychuk drew with Huebner today. Tomorrow she faces Gulko.
Dec-10-11  waustad: The score diference could get wider because the ladies are all playing black in the final round tomorrow. They'll be starting one hour earlier tomorrow, so it should be at 8:00 AM EST.
Dec-10-11  SamAtoms1980: How about: "Young Venus" and . . . . .

. . . . . OK, OK. I'll shut up now.

SteinitzLives: <anandrulez: Pics : http://www.praguechess.cz/poradane>-... Great pics, especially the ones that show them all straw sucking together. This tournament has gotten completely out of "hand" and "drops" to the bottom of reality.

jessicafischerqueen: ahhhh that's a great idea. <Nona Gaprindshavilivvilivlivliii> is still alive? She was a great world champion and a good friend of <Mikhail Tal>.
Dec-11-11  visayanbraindoctor: Does anyone know if this tournament is rated?

Domdaniel: Why might it not be, O good <Vishy & a Brain Doctor>?

If the 'snowdrops' were mopping up Elo points from the old gents, there might be some reason not to rate it. But it seems like a normal event, aside from the odd name.

The Brits should run a 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' tournament, where nice, generous GMs donate rating points to deserving royals.
