Jan-17-07  garcia.markina: Lautier is not a professional chessplayer anymore. He works for a french company in Moscow, because of his mastery in russian. That is why he sometimes makes such short draws: he plays with "the old baggage".

plang: I just looked at Lautiers win over Karpov from the Biel 1997 tournament; very nice game. Voted the 7th best game and the 13th best opening innovation (Caro Kann) of Informant #70. The game is not included in this database but I felt it should get some mention.

Why don't you submit it if it's missing?

Nov-08-08  notyetagm: Interesting fact about Lautier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_L...

<He first came to the attention of the world in 1986 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when, at age 13, he won the World Under-14 Championship by defeating both Sofia Polgar and Judit Polgar. Sofia and Judit tied for second.>

<<<Does anyone have <PGN> for these two Lautier-Polgar 1986 games?>>> They are not in the CG.COM database.

Thanks.

Apr-12-09  wordfunph: Trivia: Little Joel Lautier was sent out of the press room by Kasparov in the French town Belfort when he indicated a mistake in analysis by Kasparov, and later the adult Lautier gains a positive score against Kasparov.

Happy Birthday GM Joel Lautier!!!

stoy: Does GM Lautier still play chess? I see no recent games.
Apr-12-10  wordfunph: Lautier-Yudasin at the Manila 1990 Interzonal, yoga practitioner GM Leonid Yudasin meditated in lotus position for 20 minutes before making his first move. Some of the players, notably Short and Lautier, chuckled as they watched Yudasin do his act. "A bit strange." observed Chandler from afar. Yudasin lost his game against Joel Lautier.

Happy Birthday GM Joel Lautier!!!

Apr-12-10  Albertan: Joel Lautier is now in the Investment Banking industry in Russia: http://ru.linkedin.com/in/joellautier
Apr-29-10  Sularus: the years covered is wrong.

else he started playing seriously when he was just around 3.

Apr-01-11  I play the Fred: Why did Kirsan hand-pick THIS guy, of all the players out there, to take on Anand in 2012? Sure, Lautier was a big-time player when Anish Giri was in diapers, but come on!

FIDE is dead to me.

Mar-30-12  wordfunph: GM Joel Lautier: This one made me chuckle the most.

<A surgeon visits his patient, lying in bed:

'I've got good news and bad news, what shall I start with?' asks the doctor

'Please tell me the bad news first.' Says the patient.

'Well the operation failed horribly and we were forced to amputate both of your legs.'

'What good news could you possibly have after that?' asks the shocked and horrified patient.

'Well, the man in the next bed wants to buy your shoes!'>

HeMateMe: Does Moscow still have those "Afghanzi" guys running around, soldiers Riffed out after their adventure in Afghanistan, who hold up people who look rich? I don't know if I would want to be an investment banker in Moscow.

paulalbert: Joel is totally proficient in Russian, apparently able to pass himself off as a native Russian speaker. Born in Canada of a French father and Japanese mother, I don't know exactly how he developed such a high level of skill in the Russian language, but it's obviously very helpful if your business activities are in Russia.
