CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success. Oct-07-06  twinlark: I think it would not be difficult to agree with this sample of wisdom, Joe.
Oct-07-06  twinlark: WannaBe welcomes you to my other home at Odd Lie. I like this here place at CG.com, there's always a party happening somewhere. Come and kick up your heels, Joe.
Oct-07-06  JoeWms: Sheeet! I just left for a minute, and I got lost. Lookin' for the head. All this beer, ya know.

I ended up in a weird cafe, Kibitzer's Cafe they call it. No beer there. But just the same, anybody make a move and everybody takes to swinging at their neighbor. Jeesh, gimme a bar with a buncha pissy-ass drunks anytime.

I'll have me some of that Plonk my fine ol' friend Dom mentioned a bit ago. My favorite barristard Rumpole used to quaff that stuff before going home to She Who Must be Obeyed.

Still ain't found the head. Maybe it's at page 360.

Oct-07-06  twinlark: Yair I know, a party wifout the malarky. I'll take the piss pots myself. Hey! I'm on my way to avoiding being consumed by stray icosatriphiliacs.

Barman. A drop of nectar for me mate Joe here.

Oct-07-06  twinlark: You know Joe, I used to say to me mate Leo "Leo. Mate. Cobber. Have anuvva one. Rumpole'd thank you."
Oct-07-06  twinlark: Joe? Joe? Ya haven't slid under the table alreddy have ya?
Oct-07-06  JoeWms: <Dozy> Going to Newcastle, eh? You be sneezin' a bit, mate. Better take something for it. Ya don't wanna be carrying colds to Newcastle.

Now we're even for that Burns Ward pun you laid on me yesterday.

Oct-07-06  JoeWms: <WannaBe>, dear old. I'll come visit you at Odd Lie in a bit. Somebody said it was at page 159 -- that's the only place I haven't looked.
Oct-07-06  JoeWms: Somebody said <it> was at page 159. No, Joe, <it> is not Odd Lie. 'Tis the head you're lookin' for, dummy ...

Oct-07-06  JoeWms: <twinlark> Leo? 'Zat the old fart you used to climb mountains with? Wilson?
Oct-07-06  twinlark: MmmmmcKern, Joe. He was mah pal, a pal'o'marn mah man
Oct-08-06  achieve: <ROFL> do I really have to get up at 0500 to catch this kind of stuff?!

OhioChessFan: LOL <Achieve> I suggested that <domdaniel> do his 1000th post here, and I think he and <twinlark> intend to stay until he hits 2000 or the bar closes down.

Sorry, <JoeWms> the head has been occupied for the past 3 hours by some fellow named Bladdermir, something like that.

OhioChessFan: <Crikey! Youse blokes must be using a computer to get that high. I haven't made it to 200 yet.>

Well, yeah, <Dozy> I guess Chessgames will accept kibitzing if you send them through the mail, but using a computer is much faster, after all.

Course, not <achieve>. You may take an Odd Lie-in until noon, and read it all in one go then...

But you kinda lose the participation vibe... I'll hold my next party at a more sociable hour... at current kibbitz rates, prob'ly tomorrow...

Oct-08-06  achieve: Good tip! <Dondaniel> Hope to catch the live action soon!! Since I live work drink and play in the CET-zone, it might not be too easy..

Oct-09-06  Bobak Zahmat: Have you guys tried HOEGAARDEN BEER? From Holland. You can at best try it with a bit of lemon juice. BIERTJE?
Oct-09-06  jamesmaskell: Not tried that though at the local football club they had Oranjeboom for a season. It was drinkable but was a bit on the light side. Im more of a Grolsch/Kronenberg drinker.
