Mar-09-11 | | Lovuschka: A pity that one of Vasiukov's best games is missing here, against B Lebedev in Moscow 1960. http://www.ajedrezdeataque.com/02%2... |

Apr-01-12 | | Interbond: <Lovuschka> Some weeks ago I sent this game from 1960 against Lebedev to Chessgames in pgn but it is not in the database yet. I also sent some other games ,but none are in the database. I found the game against Lebedev commented in A. Koblenz "Lehrbuch der Schachtaktik" Band 2. I guess we can call the game "swashbuckling" after black made the opening mistake 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Nd7 4.Bc4 h6? |

Apr-01-12 | | twinlark: <interbond>, <Lovuschka> Chessgames.com admin have explained the delay in recent weeks on their main forum at chessgames.com chessforum. It seems they have a major backlog. |

Nov-28-14 | | Rhialto: Like most chess players he peaked around age 30 (a depressing thought for me, since I have yet to break 2200 USCF and just hit 30 myself) - according to chessmetrics he reached #11 in the world for a few months in 1962, ahead of many more famous players. But he is still remarkably strong for a man born in 1933. He plays a lot on ICC, only 5-minute games, where he is usually around 2000-2100 (for people who don't know ICC, the 5-minute ratings are very "deflated" compared to both ICC blitz and classical FIDE/USCF ratings; most IMs are 2100-2200 I think, and most GMs are 2200-2400 - if they play 5 at all which many don't). He plays very aggressively and opens with a lot of dubious gambits - for instance I remember he beat me a few times with black after 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 d5?! 3.ed Qxd5 4.Nc3 Qa5 5.d4? Bg4 tricking me into a very favorable (for Black) Scandinavian; after the second defeat I thought for a few minutes and realized 5.Bb5! is the hole in this little scheme, and won the next time he tried it. Playing him is always pretty entertaining. |

Mar-05-15 | | gars: One must be a very strong player to win with the black pieces a Pirc against Nezhmetdinov and a Scilian against Keres, as Vasiukov did in the 1961 URSS Championship. Happy Birthday, Grandmaster! |
|
Mar-05-15 | | NBAFan: Vasiukov is still playing actively in Senior Chess Championships and ranking high at the ripe age of 82! |

 | | fm avari viraf: During the Asian Chess Championship 1977, I played many blitz games with him. But there was a lot of confusion amongst the people as who was Vasiukov between us as there was a lot of similarity. Being a wrestler and a weightlifter myself,I had a good built with fare complexion & he too had a similar looks but the only difference was he used to wear glasses & spoke Russian. The sweet memories still linger in the precinct of mind. |

Mar-05-15 | | Skakalec: Happy birthday Grandmaster Vasiukov.
Watched him some 30 years ago, in Pula, destroying some yugoslavian IM in blitz (5 min) winning every time until IM said (with the hands) that the difference is to big :-).I'm still watching him on ICC and enjoy his play.
I was first aware now that he is 82! |

Jun-15-15 | | Retireborn: His great triumph was at Manila 1974, ahead of Petrosian, Larsen, Portisch, Gligoric, Ljubojevic, Andersson, Torre. Does anybody know what month that tournament was played in? |

Mar-05-16 | | TheFocus: Happy birthday, GM Evgeni Vasiukov. |
|
Jan-17-18 | | crwynn: I am a fan of Vasiukov since he played me (old sarum) on ICC in several games when we were playing 5-min with similar ratings (his usually higher though). Like me, he did not really play until adulthood. Unlike me he became a grandmaster! I am well able to appreciate how amazing that is. I admire him, though, not because of that but because of our games. This 80-year-old man would play some crazy gambit, sacrifice whatever i let him, and usually beat the stuffing out of me. My occasional victories were a source of pride. |
|
Feb-22-18 | | PJs Studio: When Fischer went to Moscow in ‘58 it was Vasiukov who was claimed to have given him a beating in blitz. But accounts differ. Anyone know more about Vasiukov‘s claims of spanking the great Fischer? |
|
Feb-22-18 | | TheFocus: False claim by Vasiukov. It was Petrosian who was brought in to spank Fischer. |
|
Feb-22-18 | | PJs Studio: Multiple accounts say Petrosian had trouble with 15 year old. He came out ahead in blitz, but lost a few games to the 15 year old American Grandmaster |
