Peligroso Patzer: Sjugirov beat Carlsen today in a game not yet posted in the database.

When was the last time, I wonder, that Magnus lost to an opponent more than two years younger than he?

Aug-24-23  Messiah: Now he plays under the Hungarian flag.
Jun-02-24  EvanTheTerrible: Sjugirov is having a very rough May, having lost 40 rating points on his live rating. Underrated Kazakh players seem to be to blame, as he has drawn Zalmakhanov twice (2490, -5.2), lost to Edgar Mamedov (2410, -8.4), and lost to Bibisara Assubayeva (2481, -7.7).

He has also been bleeding rating in draws to a lot of ~2400/2500s. The Open circuit is rough these days with so many underrated kids, especially from India, Turkey, China, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. I imagine there are kids from other countries that are similarly underrated, but who have even fewer chances to play internationally: Bangladesh, Mongolia,, and more.
