Eggman: Fun fact: Hort was born the exact same day (January 12, 1944) as late great Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier!

alexmagnus: He was the third oldest living Candidate.

The new top 3 is Panno, Portisch, Karpov. Yup, there are no living Candidates born in the 1940s now.

alexmagnus: <Yup, there are no living Candidates born in the 1940s now.>

But <five> living Candidates born in 1951 (Karpov, Ribli, Vaganian, Torre, and Timman).

The Fischer gap is so clear.

  Sally Simpson: Sad News.

Recall a few meetings with him when he stayed for in Edinburgh for about a week not long after he had beaten Karpov. Hort vs Karpov, 1981.

Pleasant, chatty, humerous, full of anecdotes and very patient when I and others were picking his brain.
He liked his drink and especially Scotch Whiskey. An evening with him in a bar would be quite expensive, he never bought a round but none of us seemed to care. Warm memories.

May-14-25  areknames: I am <Fusilli>'s age and I echo his sentiments. May you rest in peace, GM Hort.
