 | | Annie K.: <Penguincw> Hi. :)
Seriously, would you like to take a turn at running the Bookie game now and then? I think you would make a very good Bookie, and would recommend you, if you're interested in giving it a try. |

Um, I think I would be interested in running the Bookie game. I'm actually in the middle of composing an email to <cg> (that I started earlier this month) asking if I could run the <summer> leg, since I'm not as busy during the summer as other months, but not sure if I should go for it. If you think I should go for it, then I probably should go for it. I'll have to give it some more thought, but thanks for the post. :) |

 | | Annie K.: Hey, go for it! ;)
In fact, the beginning of April will be a rather hectic period, so it would be best if one of the experienced Bookies took the Spring leg - that way we don't miss out on prime betting opportunities to training time. If you prefer summer too, that would be just perfect. :) |

Mar-26-15
 | | Penguincw: Hmm. Been a quiet month on my forum (though I'm not really surprised). Time to break the silence: In this post, I'm going to be telling an event that happened recently at my local chess club, in the land of the unrated players, where playing a game without any illegal moves are a luxury... Anyway, on February 18th, I was at this chess club, just chilling like a normal person. A little while later, I noticed that one of my "friends" (who is a male, important detail) lost to a female. At first I didn't care, but then the female started to gloat. Since I'm a guy, obviously I don't want the ladies to start dominating the club, so I decided to challenge her, and she accepted. One week later (it's only open on Wednesdays) I was expecting to face her, but she was busy, so it was delayed a further week. Finally, on March 4th, when the game got underway, here's how it went (I took black in all the games): 1.e4 e5 2.c3 Nf6 3.d4 exd4 4.cxd4 Nxe4
click for larger viewAlright, so I didn't copy down any moves, but I do remember the first 4 moves. I don't remember how moves 5-9 went exactly, but I was able to kinda piece them together (I got the position after move 9 right). Anyway, after 2.c3, I knew things were going to get insane, and it was clear, as both sides made opening blunders (3...exd4 and 4.cxd4). In fact, this game is no longer in theory. 5.f3 Nf6 6.f4 Bb4+ 7.Bd2 Bxd2+ 8.Qxd2 0-0 9.Nf3 Ne4 10.Qe3 Re8 11.Nc3 Nxc3 12.Ne5
click for larger viewSome more moves have been played, and I was able to get castled first. I set up a "trap" with 9...Ne4 and 10...Re8, placing my rook opposite the king and queen (ready for some surprises), and white blundered horribly with 11.Nc3. At this point, I had a big smile on my face, and I mocked white loudly that they were about to lose their queen, but just looked like an idiot after 12.Ne5. Despite all that, I'm still up a knight and pawn, and just trying to get the win. 12...Nd5 13.Qb3 Nf6 14.Qxf7+ Kh8
click for larger viewJust when I thought I had the win in the bag, now it's looking not so certain. However, the chess club was about to close for the day, so I had to save the position, but before I left, white announced a mate in 2, although I couldn't find any such thing. I would be busy the next 2 weeks, so it was only finished yesterday, March 25th. Here's how it continued: 15.g4 Qe7 16.g5 Qxf7 17.Bc4 Qxc4
click for larger viewBoy that escalated quickly. I got a mini heart attack when I saw white's pawn pushing, but then decided to offer a queen exchange to relieve the pressure. White then continued pushing, and I just took the queen. Obviously, white tried taking back with the knight, but didn't see it was pinned, and asked for a redo. However, there were stakes on the line (not saying what stakes), so I obviously didn't allow it. However, white made the same mistake again by playing 17.Bc4. A few more moves were played (I remember both sides playing gxf6 and white playing Kd1, but white eventually threw, not "in the towel" but started flipping over the chessboard, and threw the pieces across the room in frustration, and immediately demanded a rematch, which I accepted. To be continued... |

 | | Penguincw: (continued)
In Game 2, it started with 1.e4 e5 2.c3 Nf6 4.d4 Nxe4, but white kept pushing their pawns forward, and my knight got kicked around. In fact, white had a chance to trap my knight, but missed it. I thought I was going to lose, but I was able to fight back. Eventually, white hung their queen, and I won this game as well. In Game 3 (which I said would be the last game regardless of the result), it opened with 1.e4 c5 2.c3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.cxd4 e6 and some other moves. White would quickly get their king rook involved, but the rook got trapped, and white was forced to give it up for a minor piece. I also got the queens and a pair of rooks off, while offering a poison pawn on h7 that trapped white's knight, and white resigned, but wanted <another> game. Apparently, the person I was playing against has a "policy" of which she doesn't face a different opponent until she beats her current one, but it's clear that it's not happening soon. However, I refused to play another game (at least this week), and she caused a huge scene, which attracted the attention of half the club, and some people even recorded it on video, with me in it. I'm hoping I can take the gold, but <wtwz> has caught fire, and I can feel the pressure. I came close to collapsing last tournament, and I'm hoping I can avoid it again. Sitting in sole fifth, I can still see you winning a medal. If you think it's too far out of reach, you can also aim for the jackpots. :) |

| Apr-28-15 | | WinKing: <Penguincw: Thanks for helping out with the Moves Prediction Contest, and congrats for winning a double crown. :)> Thanks <Penguincw>. I was lucky in this tournament. I played a lot of 'hunches' & they worked out for me this time. It seems like winning these prediction games goes in cycles. We get hot in one tournament & then we're not in the next. Your one of the better players in these prediction games <Penguincw>. You will get hot again in future contests that is my prediction. ;) |

 | | Penguincw: < OhioChessFan: http://features.aol.com/video/pack-... > Hmm, when I opened the link, I saw an interview between some guy I don't and some woman I don't know (I think it might be Scott Foley, whoever that is). However, I did type up "A band of rockhopper penguins come together to chase off a group of vultures." and got to this page: http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/p.... In other news, I see this post is my 10000th post, as I become the 66th user to reach the 5-digit mark. I've been expected it for about 3 years now, and I've finally reached it after less than 4.5 years on this site. I have to say though, I'm pretty impressed, especially considering my inconsistency on this site. In fact, during my "active" periods (Dec 2010 - May 2011, Nov 2011 - Mar 2012, Aug 2014 - Apr 2015), I totalled 8,224 posts over the course of just 585 days (average of about 14 posts/day). Then there's the rest of the time, which I totalled 1,627 kibitizes over 1,005 days (about 8 posts/5 days or 1.6 posts/day). I also have to say that I'm not really proud of this moment (mainly because of some post I made last week), but I think I'm proud at the fact that I'm turning around my kibitzing ways, sacrificing a bit of quantity for a <huge> improvement in quality. If you don't believe that, just remember I used to make posts like this: Chessgames Bookie chessforum. (cringes) Anyway, my next goal will be to get to 11K, but my next <major> goal will be to get about 2919+ more... Also, just so I can remember this post forever: http://web.archive.org/web/20150516... I also see that I'm closing in on 25 pages on this forum... Well, that's it for now. :) |

< 10. MarkFinan 4,354 > < I must defeat Darth Chneli, only then will I be ready for the leg winning trials. Scared I am not, lol. > I also have to qualify <this> leg, but for a different reason. I'm not sure if you heard, but I'm running the Summer Leg, but unlike the other 3 previous user-bookies, I have never qualified for the Championship leg before. I feel like I need this qualification to "prove" I'm "reputable", although not sure what others think. |

| Jun-23-15 | | Mating Net: FYI, <Penguincw> I was discussing hockey with a guy who is reasonably knowledgeable about the sport, and he had no idea about the O-6 sweep possibilities. He asked me how I knew, and I told him that a buddy of mine from the GTA alerted me to the chance. (Throwing chess into the conversation would have been too hard to explain) I noticed that you listed the O-6 sweep and my lil forum in your bio, I'm honored that you would do so. It really was a tremendous catch on your part. The only mention I heard, was when Steve Stamkos brought it up after the Rangers series. |
