Check It Out: <OV> Nevermind, good luck with your project.
Dec-14-20  morfishine: I agree with <AylerKupp>: ditch the silly game titles and focus solely on game quality

After all, the connotation of the illustrious term "Game of the Day" is game quality, not childish word play

I also commend <AylerKupp> for the brevity of his post, I almost fell out of my chair

and the redoubtable <MissScarlett> really needs to do his homework. I only seriously critiqued the <GOTD> for 3 years, from about 2014 - 2017.

Of course, that pathological liar <OhioChessFan> tries to inflate matters that I've been doing that for some two decades. I guess he has some problems with simple arithmetic

Ha ha ha, there's been hundreds of posters who have complained about the silly GOTD format, but I guess you won't include them?

I solemnly ask <CG> what kind of person (hint, hint, his username starts with 'Ohio') visits the GOTD daily for 20 straight years, complaining and whining about the critics? What kind of person does that? Moaning and groaning because another person has Kwidisized his pweshus puns? Oh, boo hoo, did we hurt your iddy biddy feelings? The psychiatric profession states this is a sign of insanity, repeating the same action but expecting a different result

Here's a newsflash for <OhioChessFan> and the illustrious <MissScarlett>: The critics aren't going anywhere, so your best course of action if just to shut your effing traps

Good Day

Dec-14-20  Boomie: Is the Russian Women's Championship Superfinal 2020 important enough for the CG db? They are through 9 of 11 rounds as of 12/14. All the usual suspects are playing. A teenager is the surprise leader after 9 rounds.
Dec-14-20  thegoodanarchist: <AylerKupp: ...And just think, if <chessgames.com> could allow members to create a list of words that they find objectionable, kind of a "words ignore" list, then each member could filter out posts that they think they may find objectionable...>

Not your best idea ever, dipsheet. ;)

Kidding!

Dec-14-20  cameosis: <susan freeman> cheers for the update.
Dec-14-20  fabelhaft: <Is the Russian Women's Championship Superfinal 2020 important enough for the CG db? They are through 9 of 11 rounds as of 12/14. All the usual suspects are playing>

Well, the open Superfinal has not been added in spite of this being suggested on this page already quite a while ago. And that is one of the few real classical top tournaments of the year, with Nepomniachtchi, Karjakin, Svidler, Artemiev, Dubov etc.

There were some great games played, especially maybe Dubov’s beating Nepomniachtchi, but many other decisive results, like Nepomniachtchi-Karjakin 1-0, Karjakin-Svidler 1-0 etc. No discussion of them here since they weren’t added.

I’m not involved in chess in any other way than that I am interested in following the top events and play a game now and then. I take a quick check every day to see what is going on, and have been following the Russian Superfinal since it started ten days ago.

If I had a chess site I would not avoid checking out the very few top events for weeks. But then chess interests me. Probably more difficult to maintain a site without the interest, but it really doesn’t take much effort to look up the few top events at least once a week.

Dec-15-20  Sokrates: I fully concur with your serious, well phrased notions, <fabelhaft>. I have the same interests as you in this.

However, it seems that this corner of CG is more about old quarrels, technical quibblings, and archives lingo than current tournaments and events in the chess world.

offramp: I am sure this is a coincidence... Today's GotD is J Mishook vs O Tenner, 1923, and today's Player of the Day is Pier Luigi Basso.

Tenner and Basso.

Susan Freeman: If anyone needs Steve today, he had to go to Miami due to a family emergency. He should be back tomorrow. Just FYI. 😊
Dec-17-20  Z4all: Somehow the juxtaposition of "family emergency" and 😊 strikes me as slightly incongruent.

(As does my spellchecker's flagging of incongruent-

Check It Out: <SF, CG>: It's great that you put up the 73rd Russian Chess Championships 73rd Russian Chess Championships (2020). A reminder that if you put a link to it in your <New Events> section, then more posters around here will know about it.

Also, there was an AMAZING game between Dubov vs Karjakin that took place at the competition that hasn't been uploaded yet. It is the talk of the town:

<Nigel Short: I enjoy subtle strategic masterpieces and tactical wizardry, but there are very few games that make me go "OH YEAH!". Well, I saw one today #Dubov>

(with thanks to <fabelhaft> for posting that)

Dec-17-20  cameosis: <wannabe> the surname is pronounced differently, however -- as the spelling without diacritics is incorrect -> correct spelling is Musić (mus-seech)

his given name, on the other hand, is unbeatable: tomislav (tom-is-love). works like a charm with the ladies (and some gents, too, probably).

Tabanus: 73rd Russian Chess Championships (2020), are you kidding me.

CG's titles the last 17 years are Russian Championship Superfinal (2019) and Russian Championship Superfinal (Women) (2019). Please change.

Susan Freeman: <Z4all> The smiley face was related to the <he should be back tomorrow>, and also < the FYI>. seriously? Not to the emergency. sheesh. any other problems or criticisms that need to be addressed?

OhioChessFan: <WannaBeaSlob>, let us know that works with the bunnies.
Dec-17-20  Sokrates: Even more important than the <73rd> "error" in the title is IMO the fact that these important Russian tournaments are now hidden behind the botton <more events ...> instead of being displayed above <Skilling Open> thereby passing unnoticed by most members and visitors to this site.

Also - and again - no pretexts or explanations of the formats of these tournaments.

I am sorry if this interrupts the important discussions about funny aliases and names pronounciations. I am still under the illusion that current tournaments are a priority on CG, so please bear with me.

Susan Freeman: < Sokrates> I hear you and will address.
Dec-18-20  cameosis: <sokrates> both are important -- the s-love and sam-is-love defenses have also been played @ the russian superfinals and i believe it adds to the enjoyment of the games to know the lav-ely pronunciations of the lav-ely openings.
Dec-18-20  Sokrates: Many, thanks, <Susan Freeman>, appreciated.

<cameosis> I have nothing against discussions about pronunciations and other subjects (just check my posts), but you know, there is a time for everything. The update on recent, ongoing and upcoming tournaments has been, shall we say less complete of late and that takes priority in my chess-head after all, particularly when not addressed.

Dec-18-20  Z4all: <Susan> sheesh is right.
