| Jul-14-21 | | Sokrates: "Those who don't oppose, shall inevitably be spokesmen themselves. Power speaks through their closed mouths." - Bjoern Haakanson Clearly, the new owner of CG has favoured those who represent the dark, diabolic side of humanity, and so be it. It is her site, she can and does handle it as she pleases. And since she has belittled any attempts to remove the garbage with an unverifyable, utterly cynical quote from her son ("Let them cry it out"), there is nothing more to be said. At least not by me. I am terribly sorry to leave the many great, constructive, erudite members of this torn community. You know how much I have appreciated you and your highly valuable contributions through my 17 years on this site. My heart is full of gratitude for the wisdom and knowledge - and the fun and laughter - I have received from moronovich, perfidious, keypusher, Diademas, 0zeR0, beatgiant, Absentee, Tabanus, Z, Clemens Scheitz, fabelhaft, chancho, jessica fq, Geoffrey, Count Wedgemore, AylerKupp, Pedro F, HeMateMe, alexmagnus, parmetd, among many others (please forgive the flawed memory of a 74 year old man). I wish you all a great life with superb pleasures extracted from our wonderful game. Sven, alias Sokrates |

 | | perfidious: <Sokrates>, I read your words with a sense of regret, you being the latest of numerous posters to take this decision. I wish you the best and hope you will reconsider. |

 | | perfidious: <saffuna: I just want to see fair, evenhanded treatment....> A laudable aim.
<.....We now know pretty much that breaking guideline #1 will not result in a suspension. Let's just make sure that applies to all.> Equitable treatment is also quite reasonable. |

Do tell.
Crickets to follow. Hahahahaha! |

<Sokrartes> I hope you may reconsider at some point. If you do leave for good, I will miss your good cheer and very substantial contributions to our chess community. As the good <nok> points out, it is still possible to "enjoy the community without supporting the site financially." At any rate I hope you do end up staying, or returning at some point. |

| Jul-15-21 | | rbd: <MissScarlett: Has User: Sokrates made <very substantial contributions to our chess community>? I'm unable to verify this> First , you would need to define 'very substantial contributions..." . Presently, it is subjective. Define in such a way so as to make it objective , only then you can be in a position to verify. Presently , you not in a position to verify , so of course , no surprise that you can not verify. |

 | | perfidious: <Sokrates>' calm, collected presence has been sufficient contribution in my mind; it is hardly necessary to quantify that. |

Good Evans Gambit!
Not only is <perfidious> correct, it's not as if <Sokrates> doesn't make interesting kibbutzes about chess topics either. With all the arguing around here, simply being interested in chess is a significant contribution. That said, having worked recently "under" the stern guidance of <MissScarlett>, I have to confess that her level of contribution is currently unmatched. So she's on a high bar, demanding others be at least as high as she is in order to qualify as a "significant contributor." I say this without irony, her chess history contributions are first class. Also without irony, she is utterly lacking in any vestige of social grace. Luckily, she has a good sense of humor, so this is hardly a deal breaker. |

<Diademus>
Well you know I saw an excellent instructional video from <Josh Waitzkin> on some chess software I bought a long time ago about how the <Scandinavian> was a good opening for black to learn. I wish I could remember the name of the software= it was very cool. It also had instruction from <Larry Christiensen> and <Gingi>, if I remember correctly... You were also able to play computer simulations against <Josh> at various ages in his chess career. |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Guys
I have been checking out short games recently and I think people really appreciate those that end in checkmate. I was wondering if some final result options could be added to the main game filter page: Chessgames Home Page
If the "Result is" could have:
White Checkmates
Black Checkmates
Any side checkmates
Also I think it would be cool to add another option for the number of collections games have been added to. Cheers, K |

| Jul-16-21 | | Z truth 000000011: If you delete my reply, then this post should also go: < MissScarlett: Has User: Sokrates made <very substantial contributions to our chess community>? I'm unable to verify this.> It's an implied attack on Sokrates.
I answered the question rather accurately, I do say. And I will again:
Of the over 5000 posts <Sokrates> made, not one caused me to cringe. Unlike more than a few of <Missy>'s. |
