This is the down where we throw it because we have the better matchups to throw it and the lesser matchups to run it. "That doesn't make anybody feel any good. I know that, but that's the mentality."> https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.... |

Plus it is a seriously ugly truck. Giselle wouldn't even get in, I'll bet. I think Edelman should have been the MVP, but an undrafted rookie surely needs the truck more. |

| Feb-04-15 | | Jim Bartle: Edelman appears to be of the Berry/Biletnikoff/Hines Ward/Maynard school of receivers, not fast but slippery. |
|
Feb-04-15
 | | Phony Benoni: Might also compare Edelman to Wes Welker, who has never been quite the same since leaving New England and Brady. |

| Feb-09-15 | | morfishine: <Phony Benoni> Thanks for your reply here: Rublevsky vs P Smirnov, 2013 (kibitz #31) What I found odd is after spending 18 months "training", mostly under the guidance of <Patriot>, which in my case amounted to spending about 2 hours per day studying tactics, problems and playing 5-min chess, on the one hand my rating had elevated 200 points but my Sunday POTD success rated stayed at exactly 25% Many times during that period I'd focus for hours at a time, determined to "find the answer". But no more, now I spend no more than 30 minutes on the Sunday Puzzle. Pattern recognition is one thing, but creating your own idea(s) is quite another and I'd much rather try to build on some thing I've started in the first place And besides, Chess960 has me, at least for now...

 | | Phony Benoni: <morfishine> We have different attitudes. I've never had a chess coach (even in school) or any sort of formal instruction. Everything I've picked up has been from books, experience, informal conversations or post mortems, and <WannaBe's> kibitzes. I've considered it. When my rating got up to 2143, I thought it might be nice to make a real effort to pick up those final 57 points. But the cost involved of making every game a life-or-death struggle to grind out the least advantage didn't appeal to me. You see, I really did play chess for fun. Winning was nice, but getting pleasure out of the game was more important. I once mentioned this attitude to Ben Finegold. He looked at me incredulously and said, "But winning is fun!" And I thought of Andrew Karklins, a Senior Master from Chicago who played at a weekend tournament in Detroit. His two games on Sunday both went over 100 moves, and he didn't finish them until 5:00 Monday morning. Then he drove five hours back to Chicago and went to work. I don't care that he won the tournament. That is not fun. And that's why I don't break my head trying to solve Sunday puzzles. Yes, I'm a Lazy Bum and a bad Role Model for the Youth of Today. So be it. |

| Feb-10-15 | | morfishine: <Phony Benoni> Well, we are not too different. I only "seriously" started playing when I was 25, reading Alekhine's & Morphy's (Sergeant) & Chernev's (1000 Best Short Games of Chess) books. I was in with a bunch of waiters and bartenders working night jobs and going to school, playing chess all night, carousing, drinking beer, etc. From this basis, I entered the Orlando Open a number of times, doing well once in the 1800 division, but blew game 4, and that was that. I never bothered to really make an effort at chess, since I was spending all my time playing golf. Only when I was 52 did I make a concentrated effort and got my 5-min rating up to 1870. So, we are not too different. I have no time for real training. My experience with golf taught me what that entails. I play chess for the fun of it, and immensely enjoy playing over at ChessCube.com, especially Chess960 Thanks for the reply, and Happy Chess!
