Well that didn't last long.
Using the protocol above, I now resurrected the 4th game on the list, and something struck me: M Saltzberg vs K Burger, 1962 This workaround has a serious flaw- the game is now published but has an inaccurate- false, in fact -- ECO listing in the game header. Would it not be better to fix the site hardware? Isn't that the real, and in some ways, only problem here? Daniel set up the code to automatically enter ECO codes to every upload, which is why he- and later Annie- told us NOT to include ECO codes in pgn submissions. But the code is not working properly. Isn't the most important task here to find out WHY some games are being "ghosted"- find out why there appears to be some malformation in the original cg. source code that causes the ghosting? And after identifying the *actual* problem, then you could fix that problem? Rigging the code so that no pgn is ever rejected because of an ECO issue is better than what we have at this moment, but that too is only a workaround. We need a permanent structural coding repair, not just a workaround, though workarounds are certainly useful in their place. For example I will use the workaround <Stephen> gifted us in order to go through this whole list of ghosted games and repair them (Other editors- please feel free to join me... ), but we definitely need the "real" repair. |

Mar-28-22
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Now these games are repaired:
N Vasileisky vs B Zagorsky, 1916
S Lyman vs R Byrne, 1962
Lombardy vs J F Leon, 1962
M Saltzberg vs K Burger, 1962
M Garber vs Paul Fisher, 1962
A Medina Garcia vs L Gilden, 1962
...and it struck me- 5 of them are from the same event -63rd US Open, and have an identical error- a missing parenthesis at the end of the source tag. Clearly this was copy/ pasted for the entire tournament, which is how the error replicated. My point- while we are still in "workaround" mode, would it not be simpler to find out why the editor page processor did not reject these games at the gate, irrespective of any ECO issues? I have tried to process many pgns which were rejected at the gate, and after re-checking the pgn I found out I had overlooked a syntax error. Usually the processor even tells me what kind of error it was. In these cases, I simply fixed the error and re-processed, and the games were duly published. So why did our processing page not catch the missing <"]"> error in all of 5 of those <63rd US Opens> I repaired so far? That error should have been avoided at the gate, as it almost always is, in my experience. The game should never have been published in the first place. So the gate keeper function is not working properly. Sometimes I wonder if ANY of the coding is working properly at this website. |

<Stephen>
Thank you- I will do as you say.
In the case of
E Inarkiev vs Vitiugov, 2008
E Inarkiev vs Vitiugov, 2008,
which are duplicates, I have in fact deleted both of them while trying to delete one of them... I hope you can recover the score eh...
If not, I might be able to find it on Rusbase. I am pretty sure this game will be there eh. |

Good Heavens... no wonder the two others objected to being "fixed"... Good work on this <Stephen>- I suspect that your recent workload has been daunting. I am sure I'm not the only one who appreciates your effort, and your success in solving our problems. |

Editors:
I just uploaded the games for European Individual Championship (2022) and noticed about 37 new players were made and about 8 games are still missing.
I will be reviewing the 37 new players tomorrow, to ensure they shouldn't be merged with any existing players... just a heads up. |

 | | stevemcd87: Editors, mainly <Stone>:
I've created a feature for us to review the new events that are uploaded in the future. https://www.chessgames.com/nodejs/g...
We can now select an event from the dropdown to see the new players that were created, games that were rejected and the ability to jot down notes.
I'm hoping this will help us work together, especially for the larger events.
I would think it takes hours to spot the missing games and new players for such a large event without this feature.
I'd like to also add the ability to mark a player or rejected game as "Reviewed". It should help us keep track of what was done and what needs to be done.
Feel free to let me know of any improvements we can make to this feature.I'm hoping to get the LiveGamesV2 working soon.
Thanks for all the help. |

Apr-15-22 | | Z free or die: [RE: <<CG> pids - (a good thing™)>] A quick comment on game submissions -
As the above exposes, there is always room for uncertainty when using plain names to identify players. Especially on the quickly shifting sands of <CG>. In another forum I stressed the importance of using pid's to identify players - e.g. when their names might change over time, etc. But I neglected to mention the importance of using <CG> pid's for game submissions. In fact, <Daniel> and I worked on incorporating a new feature into <CG> to allow the use of <CG> pid's, and I believe, <FIDE> pid's as well. In fact, I believe a hierarchy of importance was established, from highest to lowest: <CG> pid -> <FIDE> pid -> player name I would encourage all major (and minor) contributors to <CG> to start submitting games with the <CG> pid as much as possible. And I would caution <CG> to try to maintain the stability of player pid's even more so. . |
