He won at Sevilla (1992) and two strong opens in Brazil, the First Itau Cup (1997), 1,0 pt ahead of Jaime Sunye Neto, Rafael Duailibe Leitao, Henry Urday Caceres, Alonso Zapata, Maxim Ilyich Sorokin and Guillermo Soppe, and four years later the Fifth Itau Cup (2001). Sub-champion of Argentina (1997). Placed 2nd at the Zone 2.5 (South American Zone) tournament that took place in Cordoba Argentina, 29th August - 9th. September 1998, qualifying for the FIDE World Championship Knockout Tournament (1999), where he lost in the first round to Vladislav Ivanovich Tkachiev.
